Abstract: In a rotor which is rotated for adjusting capacitance provided by a variable capacitor, a portion for receiving a tool for rotating the same is defined by a through-hole. Thus, it is possible to protect the rotor from application of a pressing force from the tool, thereby suppressing change of a clearance between the rotor and a stator. Consequently, it is possible to stabilize the capacitance as the capacitor is being adjusted, as well as to reduce setting drift that causes the capacitance as adjusted disadvantageously to change when the tool is separated from the rotor.

Abstract: A new low profile miniaturized air dielectric variable capacitor for use in hybrid circuits. A very cost effective, low priced variable capacitor that combines precision with a low profile is disclosed for use in hybrid circuits and other applications where space requirements are tight. The new capacitor uses a unique design to achieve an extremely low profile, less than 0.127 inches, for varying capacitive ranges. The new design is achieved by creating the stator as part of the circuit layout or design. The stator is actually formed on the surface of the substrate by a thick film metallization or by copper etching and one or many capacitors can be formed as part of the circuit layout. Thereafter, a metallic conductive housing, internally threaded, is positioned over the stator. Internal to the housing is an externally threaded rotor having an adjusting knob or screw extending through the housing.

The capacitance range of the said chip capacitor is extended by the addition of a rotor plate positioned over a portion of said electrode pattern by a rotor contact spring which also provides a rotor contact terminal, such that said rotor plate may be rotated over the stator portion of said electrode pattern to provide a precisely tunable extended range of capacitance, a stator terminal spring to provide means to grip said extended range chip capacitor and means for circuit connection.

  • Patent number: 4101848
Abstract: An oscillator for producing an output signal having a predetermined frequency for use in an electronic timepiece. The oscillator comprises a miniature crystal vibrator having a high resonant frequency, a case housing the crystal vibrator, an integrated circuit comprising an oscillator circuit with the crystal vibrator, and a trimmer condenser for adjusting the high resonant frequency. The trimmer condenser is formed on an external recess portion of said case, and is connected with the crystal vibrator and integrated circuit by a circuit having low stray capacitances. The oscillator is therefor highly insensitive to external electric fields.

  • Patent number: 4101951
Abstract: A variable capacitor for use in electrical and electronic equipment which includes a stator disposed on an insulating base, a stator terminal lead having an electrode portion fixed to the stator and a terminal end extending through the insulating base. The variable capacitor includes a metallic rotor rotatably disposed on the stator through a dielectric plate, a rotor terminal lead having a resilient spring portion disposed on the rotor and a terminal end extending through the base, and an insulating cap of hollow cylindrical shape fitted over the resilient spring portion of the rotor terminal lead. The insulating cap is rigidly connected to the base to form the variable capacitor of compact size with sufficiently large electrostatic capacity.

  • Patent number: 4095263
Abstract: Adjustable capacitors for incorporation with any substrate design, and for other general or specific capacitor uses, comprising a dielectric housing means, having base and sidewall eminating therefrom, a rotatable rotor (within said housing means), constructed from a highly conductive metal, having a cylindrical hub and at least one contoured blade plate emanating from the base of said hub, and a metallic retainer, coaxial with and encompassing said rotor hub, to captivate itself against said sidewall in a convex-concave relation to cover and to seal said capacitor assembly and to abut the inner portions of said blade plates to uniformly distribute plate pressure upon the active surface of said dielectric housing base. Displaced from the rotor blade plate by the dielectric housing base are contoured conductive metallized receptive stator electrode layers deposited upon or within said base for connection with receptive substrate circuitry.

  • Patent number: 4068285
Abstract: A variable capacitor is provided wherein a reinforcing plate is utilized in the rotor assembly in order to increase the range of the capacitor. The capacitor includes the stator plate and first electrode, the stator plate supporting a lead pin and a rotor positioning member, the rotor positioning member being rotatably mounted thereon. The rotor positioning member rotatably supports a uniformly thick rotor assembly in rotatable friction contact with the stator plate and first electrode. The rotor assembly includes a dielectric, a second capacitor electrode and a reinforcing plate, the thickenss of the dielectric determining the minimum value of capacitance of the variable capacitor. The rotor assembly also includes a fixed spring secured to the positioning member, the lead pin and fixed spring being adapted to facilitate use of variable capacitor in small-size electronic instrumentation.
