  • Patent number: 9183989
Abstract: A variable capacitance type capacitor includes an inside member and an outside member including a space for housing the inside member. The inside member has a columnar shape, and a first conductor pattern is formed on a circumferential surface thereof. The outside member has a predetermined dielectric constant, and a second conductor pattern is formed on an outer circumferential surface thereof so as to oppose the first conductor pattern formed on the inside member. The inside member housed in the space of the outside member is displaced relative to the outside member in a direction of a central axis of the inside member in response to an externally applied force, and an opposed area between the first conductor pattern and the second conductor pattern changes to thereby form a capacitance corresponding to the externally applied force between the first electrode and the second electrode.

  • Patent number: 7242570
Abstract: A vacuum capacitor including an insulating cylinder having first and second ends which are opposite to each other. A stationary-side flange is installed to the first end of the insulating cylinder. A stationary electrode supporting plate is installed to an inner surface side of the stationary-side flange. A movable-side flange is installed to the second end of the insulating cylinder. A movable electrode supporting plate is installed to an inner surface side of the movable-side flange through an electrostatic capacity adjusting screw and movable relative to the stationary electrode supporting plate by turning of the electrostatic capacity adjusting screw. Additionally, a diaphragm is sealingly connected between the movable-side flange and the movable electrode supporting plate, the diaphragm having corrugation and defining a vacuum side and an atmospheric side in the vacuum capacitor.

  • Patent number: 6549394
Abstract: A capacitor having a bottom plate, a top plate and a support connected to the center portion of the top plate for positioning the top plate over the bottom plate and separated therefrom by a gap. The outer portion of the top plate moves relative to the bottom plate when a potential is applied between the plates. The outer portion may be connected to the center portion of the top plate by springs such that the movement of the top plate relative to the bottom plate is accommodated by bending at least one of the springs. The capacitor may also include an insulating layer between the top and bottom plates disposed so as to prevent the top plate from shorting to the bottom plate. A spacer for setting the minimum distance between the outer portion of the top plate and the bottom plate may also be included.

  • Patent number: 4429308
Abstract: A circular array of equally spaced, interleaved, reference elecrodes or pole pieces are arranged about the center of the array for producing an electric or magnetic field in which the resultant vector representing the maximum field strength rotates as a polyphase current or voltage source is successively applied to successive ones of the electrodes or pole pieces. In a preferred embodiment, each of the electrodes is uniquely and generally crescent shaped such that along any radius from the center of the array passing through a given electrode, the radial width of the electrode varies in proportion to the sine of A.multidot..theta. where A is an arbitrary constant and .theta. is the azimuthal angle of the radius as measured from the initial end of the electrode. The radial cross-section ratio may be achieved by varying the width alone, varying the elevation alone, or by a combination of the two.

  • Patent number: 4190876
Abstract: A variable capacitor can be constructed so as to utilize two elongated metal strips serving as electrodes. Such strips are secured to one another so that at least a part of one is above at least a part of the other. The electrodes are insulated from one another and are disposed in a helical coil in which the turns are spaced from one another a sufficient extent to permit relative movement between the individual turns. In the disclosed capacitor a support or mounting collar is secured to the outermost turn and a movable actuator is secured to the innermost turn. Preferably at least one of the electrodes is sufficiently resilient so as to serve as a helical spring which will return the coil back to its initial configuration after at least one turn of the coil has been moved relative to an adjacent turn of the coil. A second collar may be located around the first and secured to the first by a flexible mounting structure such as a spring.
