Abstract: A vehicular lamp with improved appearance quality (i.e., having no burrs or the like) around the joint interface between a front lens and a lamp body, and sufficient joint strength even in regions where the joint interface shape changes three dimensionally. A sealing leg, formed on the front lens, has a tip face which abuts and is joined by laser welding to a receiving face formed on the lamp body. To carry out the welding operation, a laser beam is irradiated from the front side of the front lens to the receiving face through the sealing leg. Therefore, even if the laser beam enters diagonally, it can be reflected internally by both side faces of the sealing leg so that the beam reliably reaches the tip face. As a result, the energy of the laser beam is not reduced, making it possible to efficiently heat the lamp body.

  • Patent number: 6508574
Abstract: A light fixture suitable for illuminating highway signage and billboards having large surface areas. The fixture includes a curved reflector assembly, shaped generally like a cobra hood that is attached to a plate disposed in a base. The reflector assembly 38 includes a plurality of spectral segments, integrally disposed in bands and rows of the reflector assembly so that an portion of the spectral segments is disposed above the plate, an intermediate portion of the spectral segments is disposed partially above and partially below the plate, and a portion of spectral segments is disposed below the plate surface. A lamp is supported within the fixture for facilitating projecting a substantially rectangularly shaped plane of light distributed in a plurality of substantially rectangularly shaped luminance patterns onto a flat surface.

Abstract: A portable lamp for providing mixed direct and diffused light. The lamp is especially suited for providing pleasant lighting conditions at a table or workbench. A hollow cover is mounted upon a base. A light bulb inside the cover provides light, the bulb being powered by a self contained power source such as a battery. The cover, which may be spherical, has a translucent upper portion for transmitting diffused light, a medial transparent portion for transmitting undiffused light directly to the tabletop, and an opaque lower portion. A conical shaped reflector within the cover serves to reflect light emitted by the bulb to the translucent and transparent portions of the cover. Colored translucent disks may be removably attached inside the cover to add color to the diffused light.

  • Patent number: 6502964
Abstract: A luminaire for creating a uniform light pattern on an architectural surface, in the form of uniformly diminishing light with the distance from the light source. The luminaire includes a quasi point light source arranged vertically in the vicinity of an architectural surface, and a multi-zone refractor assembly radially surounding the light source and bending the light from the source toward the architectural surface. There is a reflector above the light source for reflecting light from the source toward the architectural surface. The refractor assembly may include a Fresnel lens, a lower refracting condenser ring, a toroidal reflector, or a conical reflecting surface. The uppermost zone of the refractor assembly can include a reflector structure which collects and projects 180 degrees of the light from the light source in the same radial zone as the reflector structure toward and onto an upper conical reflector, and the reflector structure can include a parabolic reflector and a conical reflector.

  • Patent number: 6478451
Abstract: A vehicular lamp in which bonding failure between a front lens and a lamp body is prevented while enhancing the bonding strength and improving the quality of the outer appearance around the bonded surface therebetween. An edge surface of a seal leg of the front lens and a receiving surface of a lamp body are bonded together by laser beam welding so as to improve the quality of the outer appearance of the portion around the bonded surfaces. The bonded surface is inclined at a predetermined angle with respect to a plane perpendicular to the bonding direction. Even if the edge surface of the seal leg or the receiving surface has a wave-like irregularity such that gaps are created in areas therebetween, the pressure in the bonding direction acting on the members to be bonded causes slippage between them, resulting in sealing the gaps.

  • Patent number: 6474845
Abstract: A vehicle lamp is fitted with a reflective coated reflector which is capable of obtaining a greater center luminous intensity than conventional reflective coated reflectors. The vehicle lamp includes a light source, a reflector for reflecting light from the light source, and a front lens disposed in front of the light source. The reflective surface of the reflector is formed with a luminance reflective coating film containing aluminum flakes that are arranged so as to have a center luminous intensity of 8,000 cd or greater. An aluminum flake layer with the aluminum flakes piled up therein is formed in the surface layer portion of the luminance reflective coating film, and the aluminum flake layer forms a reflective surface for reflecting light. The aluminum flakes mixed in the luminance reflective coating film are thinner (0.01-0.06 &mgr;m thick) than the aluminum flakes (0.1 &mgr;m or greater in thickness) mixed in a conventional reflective coating film.

Abstract: A vehicular lamp in which bonding failure between a front lens and a lamp body is prevented while enhancing the bonding strength and improving the quality of the outer appearance around the bonded surface therebetween. An end surface of a seal leg of a front lens and a receiving surface of a lamp body are bonded through laser beam welding so as to improve the outer appearance quality of the area around the bonded surfaces. The end surface is formed on an end portion of the seal leg that is bent and extended outward at a predetermined angle with respect to the bonding direction. The laser beam is irradiated onto the receiving surface through the end portion from a direction substantially orthogonal to the end surface. The resultant permeation distance of the laser beam is made short, resulting in a sufficient amount of irradiation energy.
