Abstract: Conventionally, in order to downsize the enclosure, there was no other choice than downsizing the enclosure and decreasing the area of the lens plate, or increasing the area of the lens plate and increasing the enclosure as well. However, decreasing the area of the lens plate disadvantageously lowers brightness of illumination. In contrast to this, when the dimensions of the lens plate are increased, the proportion of the area of the lens plate with respect to the roof increases, which leads to a problem in terms of design. Accordingly, the present invention provides an interior light system for vehicles comprising a lamp accommodated in the enclosure, a push switch for turning on and off the lamp fixed in the enclosure, and a lens plate journaled at the ends of the opening of the enclosure for a swinging motion, in which the push switch is turned on and off by pressing the lens plate, thereby turning the lamp on and off.

Abstract: A highway vehicle is equipped with an additional directed light for illuminating the area to the side and/or rear of the vehicle where another approaching vehicle will pass by the first vehicle. The additional light helps the driver of the other vehicle see the area into which he or she is driving. The additional light is used at night when the driver of the other vehicle may have vision impaired by the headlights of the vehicle equipped with the additional light and by the fact that the other vehicle's headlights have been reduced to their “low beam” setting. Circuitry for automatically turning the additional light on and off may be provided. Adjustable mounting for the additional light may be provided.
Abstract: A pedestrian protection headlamp assembly for a motor vehicle allows the headlamp to yield rearward in a controlled, energy-absorbing manner in order to cushion the impact experienced by a pedestrian struck by the vehicle. The headlamp assembly comprises a headlamp mountable to the vehicle to form a front corner of the vehicle, a pivot mechanism disposed adjacent the outboard end of the headlamp for mounting the headlamp to the vehicle and defining a generally vertical pivot axis about which the headlamp may rotate relative to the vehicle, and a damper disposed inboard of the pivot mechanism. When a pedestrian strikes the headlamp, the damper compresses and allows controlled rearward movement of the inboard end of the headlamp as the headlamp rotates about the pivot mechanism. The damper is located adjacent an inboard end of the headlamp and a trigger prevents rotation of the headlamp about the pivot when the force applied to the headlamp is below a threshold value.
