  • Patent number: 8289823
Abstract: The present invention relates to a recording/reproducing method, a recording/reproducing apparatus and a recording medium. In the conventional art, there is no method of distinguishing a program recorded on an RE layer by an application on a ROM layer, from a program recorded on the RE layer by a user, on a hybrid disc. The present invention solves a problem as described above by separating a playlist for recording performed by the application on the ROM layer, from a playlist for recording performed by the user, and retaining information indicating a subject which has performed the recording.

Abstract: In step S1, the address generator generates address information composed of a sync signal which is recorded on an optical disc, address data and an error correction code for the address data, pre-encodes and supplies it to a modulator. At the same time, a carrier signal generator generates a carrier signal which is to carry the address information, and supplies it to the modulator. In step S2, the modulator makes MSK modulation of the carrier signal supplied from the carrier signal generator on the basis of the pre-encoded address information supplied from the address generator, and supplies a resultant MSK modulation signal to a wobbling unit. In step S3, the wobbling unit forms, on the optical disc, a spiral groove wobbled adaptively to the MSK modulation signal supplied from the modulator. In this optical disc, a given address can be accessed quickly and accurately.

Abstract: A recording device records contents in a plurality of recording media. While the recording device records a content in a recording medium, if a free space of the recording medium runs out, an unrecorded part of the content needs to be recorded in another recording medium. In order to play back all parts of the content, all recording media in which all the parts of the content have been separately recorded are necessary. Particularly, if an internal recording medium included in the recording device has a small space and accordingly a sufficient space is secured by connecting an external removable recording medium to the recording device after the recording has started, parts of the content are separately recorded in the internal recording medium and the external recording medium.

Abstract: Provided are methods and systems of encoding and decoding techniques in an optical storage system having a multi-head detector. In one embodiment, source data may be encoded using error correction coding (e.g., turbo coding) techniques, and the encoded data may be interleaved and distributed to more than one detector head of the multi-head detector. Data recorded in an optical disc may be retrieved by the multi-head detector, and a read data from more than one detector head may be concurrently decoded to retrieve estimates of the original information in the source data. Further, more than one encoder/decoder may be used, and each encoder/decoder may encode or decode data from multiple data heads. Some embodiments also include replicating multiple discs.

Abstract: A digital disk device is provided in which the quality of a digital signal is improved without causing the development cost for and power consumption by the digital disk device to increase. An ADC included in a signal conversion circuit samples an analog signal which represents the intensity of a laser beam reflected, after being emitted from a laser source driven by a current superimposed with a high-frequency signal, from an optical disk using a clock signal whose frequency is substantially the same as that of the high-frequency signal and converts the sampled analog signal into a digital signal. An LPF provided in a stage preceding the ADC passes a component, not exceeding a predetermined frequency, of the analog signal with the frequency of the clock signal set to be higher than the predetermined frequency.

Abstract: In a data recording method for a write-once type recording medium capable of pseudo overwrite, it is judged whether data to be recorded in the write-once type recording medium exists. If it is judged that data exists, it is judged that the data is to be recorded from the next writable address (NWA) indicating the boundary between a recorded area and non-recorded area. If it is judged that the data is to be recorded from the next writable address, the data is recorded from the next writable address; and if it is judged that the data is not to be recorded from the next writable address, recording of the data is suspended. While data to be recorded exists, the aforementioned steps are repeated. If no data to be recorded exists, the data whose recording has been suspended is recorded.

In an information recording medium according to the present invention, if the largest space is allocated to an user data area, the number of blocks to store a space bitmap is Ni (where Ni?2). But if the smallest space is allocated to the user data area, the number of blocks to use is smaller than Ni.
