Abstract: Isolator devices for a class A evacuation system are provided. The isolators each have specific address in the system. This allows the isolators to report individually with address information and status information, for example related to errors in the system and the device in particular. In an embodiment, a speaker can be connected to the device. This allows the speaker to be addressed individually so dedicated information like alarms and spoken messages can be sent to specific speakers. Dedicated isolators are available for announcing, powering the network and routing network traffic. Routers provide a possibility to create multiple loops, reducing wiring and increasing redundancy. By sending data in different branches by means of spread spectrum modulation, more data can be sent and effects of crosstalk between branches is highly reduced.

  • Patent number: 8675469
Abstract: A digital subscriber line (DSL) network provides enhanced dynamic spectrum management (DSM) based on estimated foreign interference obtained from monitoring unmanaged wire pairs in a cable. A DSL access multiplexer (DSLAM) or other line terminal provides vectored DSL signaling to a plurality of subscribers via a first set of wire pairs of the cable. The DSLAM monitors a second set of one or more wire pairs of the cable that are not connected to the vectored group associated with the first set of wire pairs to estimate foreign interference introduced to the first set of wire pairs. The DSLAM then modifies the vectored DSL transmitted signaling responsive to the estimated foreign interference so as to pre-cancel or otherwise compensate for the foreign interference introduced into the managed wire pairs.

  • Patent number: 8559547
Abstract: An access node is configured to control crosstalk between an activating channel associated with a first terminal and active channels associated with respective other terminals. The access node detects a control signal sent by the first terminal over the activating channel in a designated phase of an initialization process of the first terminal, determines an error signal from the detected control signal, correlates the error signal with one or more corresponding signals sent by respective ones of the other terminals over the active channels, estimates crosstalk from the active channels into the activating channel based on the correlation, and configures a vectoring signal processing module to control the estimated crosstalk. The control signal sent by the first terminal comprises a value selected by the first terminal from a set of two or more values and prior to its detection the particular selected value is unknown to the access node.

Abstract: Methods to improve the data carrying capacity of CATV DOCSIS systems and other communications systems are disclosed. Communications channels may be more efficiently spaced with reduced or absent guard bands by using receivers with adaptive signal cancellation methods, equalizing circuits, or polyphase filter banks and Fast Fourier Transform signal processing methods to correct for higher levels of cross-talk. QAM type communications channels may also be utilized on a synchronized two-transmitter at a time basis by adjusting the transmitters to predefined signal levels, such as +1, ?1, +½, ?½ to enable the combined signals to be distinguished at the receiver. These two methods may be combined to create a still higher data throughput system.

  • Patent number: 8553520
Abstract: A system and method for performing echo suppression on a server in browser-based online audio conferences without downloading or installing software on a participant's computing device is disclosed. Streams of audio communication data from the participants in an audio conference are received at the server. An echo suppression application determines the first party that speaks by analyzing the streams to locate speech data, and assigns that party as the “owner” of the audio channel. The speech data is sent to the other participants in the conference. The application then determines whether newly received audio from the owner of the channel is new speech; if so, then the party remains the owner of the channel, and the new speech data is also sent to the other parties in the conference. The channel is surrendered if no new speech is received from the owner in a defined period, and the next party that speaks becomes the new owner of the channel. The other audio data from the participants is replaced by silence.

  • Patent number: 8553610
Abstract: A wireless repeater employing echo cancellation uses a non-linear element in digital baseband to compress the digital transmit signal waveform, thereby allowing distortions in the transmitter circuit as well as interference to be cancelled. In one embodiment, the repeater applies non-linear baseband compression to the digital transmit signal in the digital domain to reduce the peak-to-average amplitude of the digital transmit signal prior to digital-to-analog conversion and prior to over-the-air transmission and prior to sampling of the digital transmit signal for use as the reference signal for echo cancellation. The intentionally introduced non-linear distortion in the transmit signal improves echo cancellation and stability of the repeater. In one embodiment, the non-linear compression is applied only when the digital transmit signal is at or exceed a given power level or a given gain level.

Abstract: A computing device and a method reads a circuit board layout file from a storage device, and selects a first signal transmission line from circuit board layout file as a target line. The computing device and method computes a distance between the target line and the aggressor line corresponding to each unit sample length. If the distance is more than or equal to a height of a sample region, the computing device and method defines the height of the sample region as a crosstalk space between the target line and the aggressor line corresponding to a unit sample length. Otherwise, if the distance is less than the height of the sample region, the computing device and method defines the distance as the crosstalk space between the target line and the aggressor line corresponding to the unit sample length.

Abstract: Combined echo and crosstalk cancellation is provided. Frequency domain adaptive filters are used to remove or reduce the effects of echo and crosstalk for a multi-channel and full-duplex communications system. Data from each transmit channel is buffered and converted to the frequency domain. The frequency domain data is multiplied by crosstalk coefficients to obtain a frequency domain correction signal for each channel. Adaptation of the crosstalk coefficients is based on correlations between the error signals and the data from each of the transmit channels. A single frequency domain transform engine, such as a Fast Fourier Transform engine, is employed for all calculations to save power and area.
