Patent number: 8085701Abstract: A translating bi-directional packet repeater includes a first antenna and a second antenna for receiving a wireless signal, amplifying it, and retransmitting it on a different channel. The channel associated with each of the antennas is separated in frequency sufficiently to ensure good isolation between the wireless signals that are received and then retransmitted. The wireless signal is down converted to an intermediate frequency (IF) that is passed through a band pass filter, and the filtered signal is then up converted and retransmitted on the different channel. A controller responds to a wireless signal on one of the antennas in selecting a path through the bi-directional amplifier and the antennas used to receive and retransmit the signal. The isolation between the received wireless signal and the retransmitted wireless signal is sufficient to avoid interference, and the retransmission takes place almost instantaneously to minimize the delay incurred.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 2009Date of Patent: December 27, 2011Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventor: Wayne G. Patent number: 7724654Abstract: The synchronization of trunk failover between two FC-AL switches when a primary trunk failure occurs is disclosed. If primary trunk T1 should fail, S1 bypasses the cascade port and sends a MaRK (MRK) ordered set out over duplicate trunk T2 to switch S2. In response, S2 sends an acknowledgement MRK ordered set over T2 back to S1. S1 then reconfigures the switch to establish T2 as the primary trunk, and acts as a masters in the failover process and initiates LIP ordered sets which are communicated to all devices in the system to initialize them. Note that when S2 receives the MRK ordered set and acknowledges it by sending an acknowledgement MRK back to S1, it acts as a slave in the failover process and does not attempt to initiate LIPs, thereby eliminating the possibility of multiple Loop Initialization cycles and reducing the time in which data cannot be transmitted.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2005Date of Patent: May 25, 2010Assignee: Emulex Design & Manufacturing CorporationInventors: Ricardo Luis Valdes, Thomas Paul Marchi, Dale Dean Sieg

Patent number: 7529183Abstract: Paths in a transport network are identified by labels (n1-n4, b1-b4) and more than one restoration resources that can be used for setting up a particular backup path form a restoration group. Backup tables (R1, R7) are provided, which define restoration groups per path labels (b1-b4), only, rather than individual restoration resources. Upon initial receipt of a path label (b1-b4), a network element (1-13) selects according to pre-determined rules a particular restoration resource from the restoration group defined in the backup table (R1-R7) for this backup path label.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2005Date of Patent: May 5, 2009Assignee: AlcatelInventor: Martin Huck

Patent number: 7525960Abstract: Methods, systems and apparatus are provided which prevent frame mis-ordering in an explicitly routed network when switching from a first path to a second path. In a first embodiment, last frame and first frame markers are transmitted, and a receiver buffers all frames received between receipt of the last frame marker and the first frame marker. In a second embodiment, a last frame marker is sent to which an acknowledgement must be received before transmitting on the second path. In a third embodiment, only a first frame marker is sent. The receiver, upon receipt, signals a network card for the first path to stop forwarding frames, also buffers frames for some period. In a fourth embodiment, the merge point node forwards frames over different paths with unique markings so the outgoing card can distinguish them.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2002Date of Patent: April 28, 2009Assignee: Alcatel-Lucent Canada Inc.Inventors: Steve Joseph Grabner, Byoung-Joon Lee, John Willem Van Gulik

Patent number: RE42788Abstract: The present invention is a novel method and apparatus for efficiently transporting and synchronizing data between the Media Access Control (MAC) and physical communication protocol layers in a wireless communication system. An inventive method and apparatus for transporting and synchronizing to fixed-length ATM cell boundaries and for protecting against the potential misinsertion of ATM cells has been described. An inventive ATM packet format is described. The ATM packet format is used by the present invention for the transportation and synchronization of ATM cells. The ATM packets include fields that are used to detect errors occurring within each ATM cell. ATM cells are transported in exactly two TC/PHY packets, or TDUs. ATM header information is contained in the first TDU only. No ATM header information is carried by the second TDU. An entire ATM cell is discarded if an uncorrectable error is detected in the first TDU. If no uncorrectable error occurs in the first TDU, the second TDU is checked for errors.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 2006Date of Patent: October 4, 2011Assignee: Harington Valve, LLCInventors: Yair Bourlas, Jacques Behar, Kenneth L.
