Measurement Of The Peak Data Flow Rate Patents (Class 370/233)
  • Patent number: 8611217
Abstract: A base station for an Internet protocol (IP) wireless access network receives a policy for subscriber traffic over a particular bearer, where the policy includes a particular quality-of-service control indicator (QCI) value, and an average bit rate (ABR) value, a maximum bit rate (MBR) value, and a weight factor value associated with the QCI value. The base station detects network congestion associated with the IP wireless access network and applies, to the subscriber traffic over a particular bearer, the weight factor, the ABR value, and/or the MBR value to manage the network congestion.

Abstract: Sub-channelization gain in an OFDMA-based wireless channel is enhanced by utilizing packet fragmentation when implementing a constant bit rate (CBR) real time (RT) packet application. A packet that would normally be transmitted using multiple sub-channels in a single OFDMA frame may be fragmented and delivered through the wireless channel over multiple frames. Because fewer sub-channels are used within each frame, sub-channelization gain is enhanced.

  • Patent number: 8547840
Abstract: Bandwidth is allocated by leveraging a bursty characteristic of data transmission signals to efficiently utilize network resources. Network performance is observed over a time period to identify patterns of data transmission rates as different signals are processed. To compensate for the fact that different jobs/tasks peak at different times, the total bandwidth limit may be increased by a scaling factor. The scaling factor is calculated using information obtained by observing network performance during the time period. The scaling factor is used to increase the total bandwidth available for all jobs/tasks executing during the time period without exceeding any bandwidth limits. The data transmission rate of each job/task may then be adjusted to utilize the newly available bandwidth.

Abstract: Congestion is detected in a radio access transport network including one or more radio network controllers each coupled to one or more radio base stations. Multiple data packet flows are each associated with a mobile radio terminal communication, and each flow is controlled in the radio access transport network by a corresponding flow control entity. They are monitored for congestion in the transport network. If a congestion area in the transport network is detected for one of the monitored data packet flows, then a determination is made whether other monitored data packet flows share the detected congestion area. Congestion notification information is communicated to the flow control entities corresponding to the other monitored data packet flows that share the detected congestion area. Based on the congestion notification information, the informed flow control entities may take a flow control action, e.g., to enable fair sharing of communications resources in the transport network.

The mobile device then repeats the measuring at least one time so that at least one other signal strength level of the RF signal on the broadcast control channel is identified. The mobile device also receives and decodes information which is broadcasted on the broadcast control channel, and stores this broadcasted information in memory. The acts of receiving, decoding, and storing are performed after measuring the signal strength level of the RF signal, but prior to completion of an averaging function for calculating an averaged signal strength level of the signal strength levels.

  • Patent number: 8315168
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for communicating data are disclosed. The example method includes allocating tokens to a first token bucket of a first two-rate, three-color meter (trTCM) at a first rate and allocating tokens to a second token bucket of the first trTCM at a second rate. The example method further includes allocating tokens to a first token bucket of a second trTCM at a third rate and allocating tokens to a second token bucket of the second trTCM at a fourth rate. The example method also includes reallocating tokens allocated to the first token bucket of the first trTCM to the first token bucket of the second trTCM when a token count of the first token bucket of the first trTCM exceeds a first capacity and reallocating tokens allocated to the second token bucket of the first trTCM to the second token bucket of the second trTCM when a token count of the second token bucket of the first trTCM exceeds a second capacity.

  • Patent number: 8295174
Abstract: A system and method for enforcing uplink aggregate maximum bit rate (AMBR) at a network gateway is provided. In one embodiment, a network gateway may inform one or more network access nodes that are sending data to the network gateway that a total data flow rate on a plurality of bearers from the one or more network access nodes to the network gateway exceeds a first threshold. Responsive to being informed that the total data flow rate exceeds the first threshold, the one or more network access nodes take an action to decrease the data flow rate from a plurality of user equipment that are sending data to the one or more network access nodes.

  • Patent number: 8295173
Abstract: By introducing a novel parameter common to all links along the entire multihop route it is possible to more flexibly allocate, for each of a number of the links, a set of three interdependent link transmit parameters representative of link transmit energy, link transmit time or link transmit bandwidth or link code word consumption, and link transmit power. Basically, the common parameter is determined based on a given end-to-end (ETE) transmit parameter constraint for the entire multihop route. The idea is then to assign or allocate, for each considered link, the three interdependent link transmit parameters based on the common parameter and local link characteristics. In this way, all three link transmit parameters may (and generally will) be different between at least two links on the route when the links have different link characteristics, assuming that each link transmit parameter is also dependent on the local link characteristics.

Abstract: A method of using a computer network for Dynamic Discovery of Quality of Service Nodes is provided. The method comprises requesting for a level of Quality of Service (QoS) of communication for a service of an Internet Service Provider (ISP) by a Application Service Provider (ASP). The request is based on a Quality of Service by Reference (QoSbyR) information that is received by the ASP from a user. The QoSbyR information comprises a ISP location information and a level of Quality of Service information.

  • Patent number: 8254283
Abstract: A method and device for identifying degradation in service quality for a wireless media service. The wireless media service has a known expected packet generation rate, which may be determined by the device based upon the codec and payload size selected on initiating the media service. At a receiving device, the packets actually received by the device from the other termination point are counted over a time period, and this number is compared with the number of packets that were expected based upon the known packet generation rate. From this comparison a packet loss rate may be determined. If the packet loss rate exceeds a threshold level, then the device may issue a user alert, terminate the service, or take other action. The threshold level may be established based upon a packet loss rate corresponding to a significant degree of service quality degradation.

  • Patent number: 8250227
Abstract: A system, computer program and method for transmitting requested data from a data source in response to data transmission requests from at least one electronic device according to differential rates of throughput. Data transmission requests are classified into one of a plurality of throughput classes, with each throughput class having an assigned rate of throughput. A proportion of data transmission requests to be processed from each throughput class is selected such that each data transmission request has a rate of throughput approximating the assigned rate of throughput of its class. The requested data is then sent from the data source to the electronic device.

  • Patent number: 8245304
Abstract: Methods for detecting an attempt to perpetrate fraud on a user utilizing a client-supplied link and a client-supplied IP address from a user computer. The method ascertains a first autonomous system number (“first AS number”) from the client-supplied IP address and a second autonomous system number (“second AS number”) from the client-supplied link. If the first AS number and the second AS number are not AS group peers, a pharming attempt is detected. Alternatively or additionally, the method includes analyzing a content of a webpage that is accessed using the client-supplied IP address to ascertain an identity of an apparent owner of the webpage and ascertaining a third autonomous system number (“third AS number”) from the identity of the apparent owner of the webpage. If the first AS number and the third AS number are not AS group peers, a phishing attempt is detected.
