Of A Switching System Patents (Class 370/244)
  • Patent number: 8165013
Abstract: A networked computer system in which a gateway is selected for efficient transmission over a network using a layered protocol. When a transmission over the network fails, information at multiple protocol layers indicates the usability of the gateway through which the failed transmission was made. In a layered protocol with an application or connection layer, a path layer and a link layer, information at the link layer is used to determine whether retransmission through the same gateway should be attempted. Information at the path layer is used to determine whether the gateway is faulty. Information from the application or connection layer is used to determine whether responses are received to transmissions. These determinations are used in setting the status of the gateway, which in turn is used to prioritize gateways when selecting a gateway for future transmissions.

  • Patent number: 8165031
Abstract: The present invention relates to techniques for allowing one or more edge nodes in a backbone network to quickly and efficiently switch traffic delivery from a first virtual network to a second virtual network in response to a failure occurring in association with the first virtual network. In certain embodiments, an edge node is capable of independently detecting that a failure has occurred on the first virtual network and quickly transitioning from the first virtual network to the second virtual network for receiving or delivering traffic. Upon detecting the failure in the first virtual network, the edge node will begin delivering traffic over the second virtual network. If control messages are not already being provided over the second network, the edge node may begin providing the control messages over the second virtual network.

Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting and mitigating interference between from a wireless time division duplex (TDD) communications device and a wireless frequency division duplex (FDD) communications device includes processing quality-indicator reports received from the FDD device to determine if the FDD device has experienced interference from the TDD device. Such interference may be mitigated by adjusting a downlink configuration of the FDD base station in communication with the FDD device. To detect and mitigate interference from an FDD device to a TDD device, it is determined if a monitored value of an operational parameter of the FDD device is within a fixed range of a maximum value of the operational parameter, and if so, a specific time interval or frequency of the FDD device is assigned for communication purposes. Similar interference detection and mitigation techniques may also be used for interference scenarios between two TDD systems including TDD devices.

  • Patent number: 8151318
Abstract: A reliable asymmetric method for distributing security information within a Fiber Channel Fabric. The Switching Fabric includes a set of security servers, which maintain among themselves a replicated copy of the Fabric security databases using the currently defined Merge and Change protocols. The other Switches of the Fabric are configured as client-Switches. They maintain only the subset of the authorization and authentication information required for their correct operation. A client-Switch queries the security server when a new end-device is connected to it, or when it is connected to the Fabric. When the security configuration of the Fabric changes by an administrative action, a security server solicits the client-Switches to update their information. In an alternative embodiment, the end-devices may query directly the security server, usually for authentication purposes.

  • Patent number: 8149705
Abstract: To analyze traffic at an application level, a stream according to TCP or SCTP is required to be reconstructed and to be analyzed. When a packet is transferred to analyzing equipment using a port mirroring function with which a router and a switch are provided, transferred traffic volume increases and exceeds the throughput of the analyzing equipment. As only a part of packets configuring a stream is transferred to the analyzing equipment in transfer to the analyzing equipment using a packet sampling function, analysis at the application level is impossible. To solve the problem, when a packet communication unit recognizes a stream start packet, samples a stream initiated by the packet on a condition and at a rate respectively determined beforehand and generates a condition for copying the packet based upon information of both ends of the stream included in the packet, packets sampled in units of stream can be transferred to the analyzing equipment.

Abstract: The present disclosure eliminates the need for a buffer large enough to store a MAC PDU for the CRC check and eliminates processing delay involved in outputting data to, and inputting data from, the buffer. A wireless communication device analyzes and buffers an RLC data PDU, which is a data processing unit in the Radio Link Control layer (RLC layer), in the RLC layer without waiting for the completion of error detection processing, which is performed in the Medium Access Control layer (MAC layer), for a data processing unit (PDU) in the MAC layer. In the RLC layer, the wireless communication device references the result of the error detection processing for the MAC PDU performed in the MAC layer and creates an RLC Service Data Unit (RLC SDU) using an error-free RLC data PDU.

Abstract: An access node anchoring a connection to, e.g., a PDSN in a core network establishes a session with a mobile station and assigns the mobile station an identifier such as a UATI. The anchor node sends the UATI to the PDSN, such as in a GRE key where the data link is a GRE tunnel. If the anchor node fails and data addressed to the mobile station comes to the PDSN, it may initiate a page for the mobile using the UATI. The anchor node may additionally send the PDSN the session seed and optionally the mobile station's network location. A registration zone may be defined to include access nodes within a predetermined distance of the anchor node, and the mobile station forced to re-register when moving outside of the registration zone. In this case, the PDSN may initiate a page for the mobile station only within the registration zone.

Abstract: An active loop-free topology established by a Rapid Spanning Tree Algorithm and Protocol (RSTP) emanates from an original root bridge. Upon a bridge directly connected to the root bridge suspecting a failure in the root bridge, the bridge directly connected to the root bridge generates a Root Failure Suspicion Notification (RFSN) Bridge Protocol Data Unit (BPDU) comprising a standard Rapid Spanning Tree (RSTP) BPDU portion and a compressed failed root identifier portion uniquely identifying the root bridge which is suspected of failing. The RFSN BPDU is propagated amongst the bridges in the network. The bridges which can identify a flag in the standard RSTP BPDU portion of the RFSN BPDU decompress the compressed failed root identifier and compare it to the stored root identifier at each bridge. If the received failed root identifier in the RFSN BPDU corresponds to the stored root identifier of the bridge, the bridge deletes the stored root identifier.

  • Patent number: 8018860
Abstract: Re-routing interactions are predicted for a communications network including a plurality of network elements. A respective device state image is constructed for each of the plurality of network elements, with each of the device state images including a failover setting of a respective one of the network elements. The device state images are transmitted to a network simulator. The performance of the communications network is simulated in response to the device state images. A prospective network element failover of a predetermined one of the network elements is transmitted to the network simulator. A performance of the communications network is simulated in response to the device state images modified by the prospective network element failover. It is then detected whether an acceptable performance is maintained in view of the prospective network element failover in order to identify whether is will be permissible to perform a maintenance action on the network element which makes it unavailable to the network.

Abstract: Only when a request formed of a plurality of request packets obtained by dividing the request is reconstructed, the request is transmitted to a survey target node that returns a response formed of a plurality of response packets obtained by dividing the response. When no response packet has been received at all from the survey target node, it is determined that any of the request packets has been discarded on a first route from a surveying node as a transmission source of the request to the survey target node. When one or more response packets have been received from the survey target node but the response cannot be reconstructed, it is determined that any of the response packets transmitted from the survey target node has been discarded on a second route from the survey target node to the surveying node as the transmission source of the request packets.

  • Patent number: 7978615
Abstract: Techniques are provided for operating a network where router devices forward received data packets towards a destination node. Each router maintains a routing table, indicating the next hop to choose in respect of different ultimate destinations m accordance with a routing protocol. Periodic communications between neighboring routers are used as confirmation that they are still able to communicate with one another. Each router compares the time since it last communicated in this way with each of its neighbors with a router dead interval and determines that the respective neighboring router, or the currently designated route thereto, has gone down if the comparison indicates that the router dead interval has elapsed without such a communication having been received. Each router performs an adaptive algorithm to modify the or each corresponding router dead interval dynamically in accordance with one or more properties of the network as measured by the router.
