  • Patent number: 8483650
Abstract: Efficient utilization and management of integrated mobile base station carrier trees is provided herein. Such trees provide an organizational structure for allocating calls in a code division, tone division, time division and/or like mobile infrastructure. Calls can be allocated to portions of the carrier tree as a function of characteristic(s) associated with the call. Accordingly, like calls are grouped within the carrier tree with like calls. In addition, portions of the carrier tree can be re-allocated to different types of traffic to meet fluctuations in traffic demand. Further, calls can be re-packed from existing segments of the carrier tree to other segments to maintain calls having common characteristics in contiguous groups, and to maintain idle segments another contiguous group(s). Accordingly, the wireless carrier tree can be packed and managed more efficiently, providing greater throughput and reduced contention for resources.

  • Patent number: 8462689
Abstract: A technique for a time division multiplex system in which access to shared broadcast communication media is granted on a demand basis. Particular connections are assigned slot times at the transmitter based on demand. However, no specific information regarding the assignment of time slots need be communicated to the receivers. The transmit side employs a forward error correction technique followed by multiplication by a cover sequence unique to each connection. All receivers listen to the broadcast transmission channel all of the time. The receiver assigned to each connection decodes the signals in such a manner that only the receiver with the correct cover sequence assigned to a particular connection will successfully decode the data associated with that connection. Data frames that fail the forward error correction process are discarded, and only those frames which are successfully decoded are passed up to a higher layer.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein to use sieving to reduce the number of hypotheses and the length of time for acquisition of GPS satellite signals. In sieving, hypothesis testing is performed after a short non-coherent integration duration on a first set of hypotheses. At the end of the non-coherent integration time, multiple candidate hypotheses having high likelihood of signal detection are identified. Further non-coherent integration of each candidate hypothesis is performed by using a tracking loop to remove Doppler frequency and code phase variations on the signal. In parallel, additional hypotheses testing is performed on a second set of hypotheses. At the end of the next non-coherent integration time, the best candidate hypotheses among the candidate hypotheses sieved from the first set of hypotheses running in the tracking loops and the candidate hypotheses from the second set of hypotheses are identified.

  • Patent number: 8391336
Abstract: To generate a pulse for ranging, a kernel is convolved with a spreading sequence. The spreading sequence is parametrized by one or more ordered (length, sparsity) pairs, such that the first sparsity differs from the bit length of the kernel and/or a subsequent sparsity differs from the product of the immediately preceding length and the immediately preceding sparsity. Alternatively, a kernel is convolved with an ordered plurality of spreading sequences, all but the first of which may be non-binary. The pulse is launched towards a target. The reflection from the target is transformed to a received reflection, compressed by deconvolution of the spreading sequence, and post-processed to provide a range to the target and/or a direction of arrival from the target.

  • Patent number: 8385871
Abstract: The present invention is a hybrid RF-digital signal processor-based filter for multiband radio architectures systems capable of spectrum re-farming and software defined radios. It performs low-loss frequency agile multiple notch filtering at RF where a large dynamic range exists at a filter input between signals in a stopband and passband. It is a frequency dependent signal attenuation apparatus having two paths connected together by directional couplers. The first path comprising a component such as a delay component or duplexer. The second path comprising a bandstop filter connected to a down converter, a digital filter, and an up converter. At the output of a power amplifier, the invention can be used to attenuate spurs, or noise within bands with strict emission constraints. At the input of a low noise amplifier, the invention can be used to attenuate blockers and transmitter noise outside of the receiver passband.

  • Patent number: 8363593
Abstract: A system and method for wireless communication includes multiplexing an EUDC downlink control channel so that it is transmitted like a downlink dedicated channel (DL-DPCH). The EUDC downlink control channel can be multiplexed with the DL-DPCH by code or by both code and time. The EUDC downlink control channel may be multiplexed with a downlink dedicated physical data channel (DL-DPDCH), a downlink dedicated physical control channel (DL-DPCCH), or both. In one embodiment, the EUDC downlink control channel is multiplexed by adding a multicode channel to a current DL-DPCH and treating the EUDC downlink control channel as a dedicated channel with power control functionality.
