Abstract: The proposed invention is in the area of managing resources in optical transport networks, for example in the area of in-operation media channel format and spectrum management. For this purpose, the type of Media Channel Format is determined for each of a plurality of candidate paths, wherein each candidate path connects a pair of nodes in an optical transport network. Then, the expected weight describing traffic volume of each of the candidate paths is determined, and a spectrum share is assigned to each link of each of the candidate paths based on the determined Media Channel Formats and determined weights. In this way, spectrum shares assigned to different links and candidate paths can be used for efficiently assigning a band spectrum to each of the Media Channel Formats of the candidate paths.

  • Patent number: 9754684
Abstract: In an Error Correction Code (ECC)-based memory, a Single Error Correction Double Error Detection (SECDED) scheme is used with data aggregation to correct more than one error in a memory word received in a memory burst. By completely utilizing the Hamming distance of the SECDED (128,120) code, 8 ECC bits can potentially correct one error in 120 data bits. Each memory burst is effectively “expanded” from its actual 64 data bits to 120 data bits by “sharing” additional 56 data bits from all of the other related bursts. When a cache line of 512 bits is read, the SECDED (128,120) code is used in conjunction with all the received 64 ECC bits to correct more than one error in the actual 64 bits of data in a memory word. The data mapping of the present disclosure translates to a higher rate of error correction than the existing (72,64) SECDED code.

Abstract: Time division multiplexed input signals (i.e., separated into time slots) are spread in each time slot with a destination code. This spreading is applied for destination identification as opposed to signal information modulation. Each spreading signal is associated with a particular destination for a particular time slot. These spread signals are then combined on a code division bus. Output signals for retransmission to the destinations are recovered from the bus by application of despreading codes. Each despread signal has a destination code which appears in its individual time slot. In a variant code division multiplexed signals are directed to a destination by use of time slot interchanger to achieve time division switching to route the CDMA multiplexed channels.

  • Patent number: 7904026
Abstract: A wireless digital communication system includes a base station in communication with a plurality of user equipment mobile terminals (UEs). The system prioritizes the forwarding of blocks of downlink data to designated ones of the UEs. The system employs adaptive modulation and coding (AM&C) to achieve improved radio resource utilization and provides optimum data rates for user services. Blocks of downlink (DL) data are received by the base station which requests downlink (DL) channel quality measurements only from those mobile terminals (UEs) with pending downlink transmissions. The UEs respond to the request by measuring and reporting DL channel quality to the base station, which then allocates resources such that the UEs will make best use of radio resources. The base station notifies the UEs of the physical channel allocation indicating the modulation/coding rate and allocated slots followed by transmission of blocks of downlink data which are transmitted to the UEs.

  • Patent number: 7856010
Abstract: A circulating switch comprises switch modules of moderate capacities interconnected by a passive rotator. Data is sent from a one switch module to another switch module either directly, traversing the rotator once, or indirectly through at least one intermediate switch module where the rotator is traversed twice. A higher capacity extended circulating switch is constructed from higher-capacity switch modules, implemented as common memory switches and having multiple ports, interconnected through a multiplicity of rotators preferably arranged in complementary groups of rotators of opposite rotation directions. A polyphase circulating switch having a low switching delay is derived from a multi-rotator circulating switch by providing programmable rotators having adjustable relative rotator-cycle phases. A low delay high-capacity switch may also be constructed from prior-art medium-capacity rotator space switches with mutually phase-shifted rotation cycles.

Abstract: A method, computer program product, system and apparatus are presented for reducing wasted bandwidth due to supercasting multicast cells through a router switch fabric. In one embodiment of the present invention, signatures of a switch fabric destination address are generated and compared. A signature is an information-rich representation of the fabric destination address that is generated using the fabric destination address. Therefore, supercasting can be minimized by combining fabric destination addresses with like signatures. Aspects of the present invention include generating the signatures using random permutation maps of the set of switch fabric ports or determining intersections of a fabric destination address with a selection of subsets of the switch fabric ports.

  • Patent number: 7639678
Abstract: A transit memory assembly of a rotator-based switching node is logically partitioned into two sections, one operated as a common-memory switch fabric and the other as a time-shared space-switch fabric. The composition of data received at input ports of the switching node determines adaptive capacity division between the two sections. Based on an indication of traffic type, a controller of at least one input port selects one of the two sections. The space-switch section enables scalability to a high transport capacity while the common-memory section enables scalability to a high processing throughput. The switching node includes rotators and a bank of transit-memory devices that facilitate the incorporation of any mixture of periodic, aperiodic, contention-free exclusive-access, concurrent-access, and multicast switching.

  • Patent number: 7606187
Abstract: Provided is a system and method for a multicast routing algorithm to work in infrastructure based mesh networks. It chooses access points, fixed infrastructure gateway nodes connected to each other and/or the global internet via a wired/wireless backbone, as a group of local multicast group leaders to form a multicast group leader cloud. Each local multicast group leader is elected on-demand according to the local multicast group member's request. Each local multicast group leader forms a local multicast tree rooted at this leader connecting all multicast group members associated with the AP. The processes of electing and maintaining local multicast trees rooted at APs enable efficient coordination with underlying unicast routing to exploit the advantages of fixed infrastructure nodes. Therefore, routing overhead and multicast tree convergence time are reduced. The method can support large networks with fast topology change due to fast convergence and reduced routing overhead.

  • Patent number: 7590110
Abstract: A high capacity switching node comprises a lattice structure of low-latency switch units and a plurality of balanced connectors interfacing electronic edge nodes to diagonal subsets of said switch units. The edge nodes may be collocated with the switch units or remotely located. The switch units may be bufferless, having optical switch-fabrics for example, thus requiring a compound vacancy-matching process. Using switch units each of dimension 64×64, a fast switching node having a dimension of the order of 10,000×10,000 can be constructed. With a typical wavelength-channel capacity of 10 Gb/s, the fast-switching node would scale to a capacity of 100 terabits per second, which is orders of magnitude higher than the capacity of known fast optical switches. A fast-switching optical switch of such scalability significantly reduces network complexity and cost.
