  • Patent number: 8374184
Abstract: A method and mobile terminal for acquiring a packet service in a mobile communication system is provided. A mobile terminal of the present invention determines, when it powers on, whether to register with a network on the basis of previously stored packet service usage frequency and updates, when using the packet service after registering with the network, the packet service usage frequency. The mobile terminal of the present invention can reduce waste of resources required for the packet service by reducing communication with the network. A packet service acquisition method of the present invention helps reduces a number of mobile terminals registered with a network, whereby the network can reduce its processing load, resulting in improvement of network throughput.

Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for collecting and presenting region-associated ratings of wireless carriers. Customer ratings for a plurality of wireless carriers are collected in one or more computing devices. Each of the customer ratings is associated with a corresponding geographic location. A target geographic location is obtained from a client. A network page is generated including one or more maps showing a region encompassing the target geographic location. The maps indicate an aggregate customer rating for one or more of the wireless carriers for the region. The aggregate customer rating is determined based at least in part on a subset of the customer ratings that are associated with geographic locations that are encompassed by the region.

Abstract: Methods and systems for reducing the latency of instant communication session establishment are presented. According to various preferred embodiments, a RAN, may receive a setup request message via a packet-switched network. The RAN may determine, from a quality of service (QOS) indication contained in the setup request message, that the setup request message is requesting establishment of a instant communication session. The RAN may further determine an intended destination wireless communication device (WCD) for the setup request message. Based on the QOS indication and/or a profile indicating the destination WCD's capabilities, the RAN may pre-allocate resources for the instant communication session in parallel to paging the destination WCD. In this way, the latencies associated with these procedures are overlapped, thus reducing the overall latency of instant communication session establishment.

Abstract: A policy based look up procedure enables a code division multiple access (CDMA) wireless network to modify a quality of service (QoS) level granted for an application packet flow in real time, e.g. in response to a customer service request, upon determination of a need to change network operations, periodically, or under other dynamic circumstances. The policy look up table identifies QoS levels and rules to identify an individual or group of users or types of applications and the associated packet flows that should be processed through a radio access network in accord with each applicable QoS level. In a typical implementation, a packet data serving node stores or has access to the carrier's QoS policy table to perform the look up and instruct a radio network controller or other element of the radio access network as to the applicable QoS level for each packet flow for a mobile station.

Abstract: When a communication apparatus (server device) that includes wireless access means and can send content data by using the wireless access means starts sending content data, it calculates a communication band that remains available for the server device to perform communication, so that any content that has a rate equal to or greater than the remaining communication band may not be publicized open to and may not hence be sent to a client device.

  • Patent number: 8279766
Abstract: A novel decentralized protocol for constructing a tree-based P2P live video streaming network with the Interior-Node-Disjoint (IND) multi-tree structure with the special Link-Level-Homogeneous property. The IND multi-tree structure recycles the wasted uploading capacities of leaf nodes in the tree-based P2P networks. The IND multi-tree structure also enhances the robustness of the tree-based P2P networks. Moreover, the special Link-Level-Homogeneous property eliminates the bottlenecks in the video delivery paths by ensuring that each downloading link in the network has identical bandwidth reserved. This special designed architecture greatly improves the downloading performance.

Abstract: A self-configuring network comprises network devices that are automatically provisioned with appropriate network resources upon the occurrence of a network event. A profile containing one or more commands to provision a network device with appropriate network resources is deployed to selected connecting devices. The selected connecting devices are targeted for deployment based on the network device and/or port groups to which they belong as determined from a network management system. The profile is bound to the selected connecting devices and affected ports as well as the network events that will trigger execution of the profile on the devices where they are deployed. A graphical user interface and profile information database may be used to facilitate managing the profiles, targeted devices/ports and associated network events.

Abstract: Virtual machines are provisioned computers in a computer environment based on input/output (I/O) requirements of software tasks. A workload request, requesting the execution of a software task on a virtual machine, is received. The I/O requirements of the software task are matched to an optimal computer, in the computer environment, that has an I/O bandwidth capability that best matches the I/O requirements of the software task. The software task is then routed to a virtual machine, on the optimal computer, for execution of the software task.

Abstract: A wireless user device, in radio communication with a first access point of one or more networks with which it could communicate via at least one of a plurality of access points, sends a network selection request to the first access point. If the network wishes to initiate a response from another access point in the same or another network, the first access point forwards the network selection request to one or more neighboring access points, in the same or another network. If any of the neighboring access points is able to communicate with the user device, that neighboring access point sends a response directly to the wireless user device and the wireless user device chooses the most suitable network from the responses sent.
