Abstract: An information handling system includes a plurality of network nodes and a processor. Each network node includes an optical link and a reflectometry analyzer. The reflection analyzers provide a plurality of reflectometry results that each provide a characterization of physical properties of the optical link. The processor receives the reflectometry results, analyzes the reflectometry results to define a fingerprint of the physical properties of the optical link, and determines a status for each of the optical links based upon the associated fingerprints. The status for each of the optical links includes one of a plurality of graded statuses. Each graded status represents a qualitative measure of the physical properties of the associated optical link. A first graded status represents a better qualitative measure than a second graded status. The processor further receives a request to route a data flow from a first one of the network nodes to a second one of the network nodes.

  • Patent number: 11153174
Abstract: The described technology is directed towards presenting a server overload condition that can result from a spike in client requests. Upon receiving an incoming client request for data at a server, a request buffer condition of a client request buffer (e.g., a counter) is evaluated to determine whether the client request corresponds to an anticipated overload state with respect to a request-handling capability of the server, e.g., whether the client request buffer is full. If so, an overload response (e.g., a retry response) is returned to the client indicating so that the client retries a corresponding client request after a time delay. If not in the anticipated overload state, the request is further processed, e.g., to provide a regular response containing the requested data, such as by adding a request information entry associated with the incoming client request to the client request buffer and updating the request buffer condition.

Abstract: At a source node, a plurality of packets may be determined for transmission to a destination node in a network comprising a plurality of network nodes. A transmission rate of the plurality of packets from the source node to a neighbor node in the network may be adaptively controlled, based on a determination of a current status of the network by utilizing a plurality of parameters that are estimated via a reinforcement learning routing algorithm. The plurality of parameters include an estimated cost value representing a current cost to transmit the plurality of packets to the destination node via the network. Transmissions from intermediate nodes may also be adaptively deferred based on a determination of a current status of the network by utilizing the plurality of parameters.

Abstract: Technologies for quality of service (QoS) management include a computing device having a physical storage volume and multiple processor cores. A management thread reads I/O counters that are each associated with a logical volume and a processor core. The logical volumes are backed by the physical storage volume. The management thread configures stop bits as a function of the I/O counters and multiple QoS parameters. Each stop bit is associated with a logical volume and a processor core. The QoS parameters include minimum guaranteed bandwidth and optional maximum allowed bandwidth for each logical volume. A worker thread reads the stop bit associated with a logical volume and a processor core, accesses the logical volume if the stop bit is not set, and updates the I/O counter associated with the logical volume and the processor core in response to accessing the logical volume. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: A method and network device for enabling in-place policy updates. Specifically, the method and network device disclosed herein entail effecting the removal and/or insertion of policies on the network device while minimizing a window in which active policies may be disrupted by the policy updates. Further, in-place policy updates call upon the ordered-shifting of content stored across data structure elements. Through ordered-shifting, policy updates can utilize limited memory resources, on the network device, more efficiently over existing methodologies. Additionally, policy updates can also be committed faster, thereby allowing more policy updates to be processed with a fixed time window.
