  • Patent number: 8934492
Abstract: The present disclosure generally pertains to network systems and methods that efficiently drop packets carried by virtual circuits. In one exemplary embodiment, a packet network has at least a first node having a first port that is coupled directly to a second port of a second node. A virtual circuit is established such that a virtual connection exists between the two ports. The first node communicates with the second node to determine whether the second node is provisioned such that the second port is a member of the virtual circuit. If the second node is not provisioned such that the second port is a member of the virtual circuit, then the first node drops the data packets that (1) are carried by the virtual circuit and (2) are to be forwarded to the first port, as indicated by virtual circuit (VC) mapping data in the first node. Thus, the dropped packets are prevented from usurping capacity that otherwise could be used to transmit other packets between the two nodes.

Abstract: A data transport system comprises transport apparatus and at least one computer. The transport apparatus construct a second network coupled to a first network which is constructed by a communication apparatus. A logical path is built between a first transport apparatus and the computer. The first transport apparatus is configured to: hold management information, which associates identification information of a port with logical path identification information; refer to the management information to identify the logical path identification information that is associated with the port through which the control information has been received; and assign the identified logical path identification information to the control information, and transmit the control information over the logical path. The computer assigns the logical path identification information assigned to the control information to response information, and transmits the response information to the second network.

  • Patent number: 8924574
Abstract: In a system and method for establishing communications in a communications network, a network service provider can assign IP addresses to mobile devices dynamically to conserve IP address resources. A network service provider can also implement network address translation to further conserve IP address resources and to provide improved security. If a requestor seeks to obtain an IP address of a mobile device and the address is a local address, the system determines if the mobile device has a network address translation (NAT) binding that associates the IP address of the mobile device with a public IP address. If the mobile device does not have a NAT binding, the system creates a NAT binding that associates the IP address of the mobile device with a public IP address.

  • Patent number: 8891439
Abstract: A method of enabling extension of a network service of a first domain to a remote customer site hosted by an Access Gateway (AG) in a Provider Ethernet domain. In the first domain, the remote customer site is represented as being hosted by a border gateway (BG) connected to the Provider Ethernet domain, such that subscriber packets associated with the network service are forwarded to or from the remote customer site via the BG. In the Provider Ethernet domain, a trunk connection is instantiated through the Provider Ethernet domain between the host AG and the BG. A trunk cross-connection function is installed in the host AG, for transferring subscriber packets associated with the network service between a respective attachment virtual circuit (AVC) through which the remote customer site is connected to the host AG and an extended AVC tunnelled through the trunk connection.

Thus for each cell site, variations in geographic location, device mix, historical usage patterns and other factors are taken into account to allow for more accurate network planning and for more efficient use of capital. Cell sites with a higher traffic profile based upon historic device mix and usage patterns will be associated with lower OSF values thus enhancing the user experience for a device user in communication with that cell site. On the other hand, for cell sites with a lesser traffic profile, a higher OSF value is ascribed thus allowing for capital to be deployed elsewhere while still maintaining a positive user experience for users relying on that cell site.

The data center network includes a management server and a plurality of machines containing physical machines and virtual machines. The management server configures a logical media access control (MAC) address for each of the machines, wherein most significant bytes of each of the logical MAC addresses are set as 0. When a data packet is about to be sent from a physical machine, the physical machine executes an encapsulation procedure on the data packet for forwarding the data packet to an intermediate node between a transmitter and a receiver of the data packet, and the intermediate node executes a decapsulation procedure on the data packet for forwarding the data packet to the true receiver. Accordingly, the number of virtual machines exposed to the forwarding table of Ethernet switches can be effectively reduced.

  • Patent number: 8717935
Abstract: A network element is configured for open shortest path first (OSPF) non-stop routing (NSR) with reliable flooding. An active OSPF instance determines to flood a link-state advertisement (LSA). The LSA is synchronized with a backup OSPF instance including storing the LSA with a status that indicates that flooding is pending. The active OSPF instance attempts to reliably flood the LSA to a set of adjacent network elements of the flooding scope of the LSA. If flooding of the LSA completes, the active OSPF instance causes the backup OSPF instance to alter the status of the LSA to indicate that flooding is complete. If the backup OSPF instance becomes the currently active OSPF instance prior to the flooding of the LSA completing, then the new active OSPF instance attempts to reliably flood the LSA.

  • Patent number: 8711864
Abstract: A system and method for transmitting packets over two different network protocols without protocol conversion in any switches. A computer system comprises host computers and target storage arrays, or targets, coupled to one another through a Enhanced Ethernet network. Each of the host computers and the targets is configured to transmit encapsulated packets, such as a Fiber Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) packet. During system configuration, each of the targets is set to be the only target included in a virtual local area network (VLAN) with a corresponding unique VLAN identifier (ID). A given host computer logins to multiple assigned targets using a predefined Fiber Channel protocol. In response to a login request, a corresponding target assigns and conveys a N_Port ID that comprises a VLAN ID and a unique Host ID to the host computer in a reply message. A virtual link is established between the host computer and the target storage array.

  • Patent number: 8711867
Abstract: A method includes receiving flits forwarded from an upstream router into a first input virtual channel (VC) associated with an input port. The flits are associated with packets originated from a first Intellectual Property (IP) core and forwarded to a second IP core. The flits are stored in a VC storage associated with the first input VC. The method further includes performing link width conversion based on a width of the flits being different from a width of an output port. Link width conversion includes accumulation of the flits when the width of the output port is wider and unpacking of the flits when the width of the output port is narrower. Credits are generated based on the flits being forwarded from the first input VC to the output port. The credits are sent to the upstream router to enable receiving more flits from the upstream router.
