Using Time Slots Patents (Class 370/458)
  • Patent number: 8213452
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for ordering grants of upstream bandwidth in a two-way grant-based communication system, such as a DOCSIS-based communication system. Typically, a central controller, such as a CMTS, sends a grant message to a set of end user devices, e.g., cable modems, wherein the message defines when each end user device can transmit upstream. The invention first determines, for each end user device, the time needed for processing the grant message. The central controller then constructs the grant message, such that grants for the end user devices associated with the shortest grant message processing times occur early in the grant message and represent the earliest grants. Grants for end user devices associated with the longest grant message processing times occur later in the grant message and represent later grants.

Abstract: A mechanism is provided for packet coalescing in virtual channels of a data processing system. A first processor bundles original data into a data packet to be transmitted to a destination processor, the original data comprising payload data and overhead data. The first processor transmits the data packet to a second processor along a path to the destination processor. The second processor determines if the second processor has additional payload data destined for the same destination processor. Responsive to the second processor having the additional payload data, the second processor unbundles the data packet, adds the additional payload data to the payload data, and rebundles the payload data along with the additional payload data and the overhead data into a rebundled data packet. Then the second processor transmits the rebundled data packet to at least one other processor along the path to the destination processor.

Abstract: A communication system, a communication apparatus and a terminal accommodation apparatus which use a metallic subscriber line and are a high-speed and inexpensive are provided. The communication system includes a plurality of terminal accommodation apparatuses 200 for accommodating terminals 3c, 3d, a communication apparatus 1 connected to an IP network 4, and digital subscriber lines L3 for connecting the plurality of terminal accommodation apparatuses 200 and the communication apparatus 1. The terminal accommodation apparatus 200 includes a PCM (pulse code modulation) modulator and a subscriber line interface. The PCM modulator converts a voice signal received from the terminal 3c to PCM data. The subscriber line interface transmits data including the PCM data to the communication apparatus 1 via the metallic subscriber line L3. The communication apparatus 1 includes an IP converter 130 for converting the PCM data to an IP (Internet protocol) packet.

  • Patent number: 8102795
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate implementing a linear adaptive equalizer receiver on the downlink link of a UMTS TDD wireless communication system. A reference signal can be generated based on multiple non-common midamble sequences in a time slot of a received transmission. Traffic-to-pilot ratios for channel codes in the time slot can be generated, and relative strengths of channel codes associated with specific midambles can be determined to weight the midamble. A plurality of the weighted midambles can then be utilized to generate a reference signal to train the equalizer, which can facilitate utilization of total aggregate midamble energy rather than midamble energy associated with a single midamble in the signal.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a method and an apparatus for coexistence of multiple operating entity systems, where the method includes: setting part or all of bandwidths of an operating entity in uplink timeslots of a downlink carrier frequency interference region to be in an idle state. By using the present invention, the uplink timeslots of the operating entity in the downlink carrier frequency interference region are set to be in an idle state and do not transmit an uplink transmit signal any longer, which prevents a downlink transmit signal of another operating entity from interfering with an uplink transmit signal of the operating entity.

Abstract: The present invention concerns a method for determining if a handover of a first half-duplex terminal has to be executed from a first to a second base station. The first base station: transfers signal in the cell of the first base station, receiving a message transferred by the first half-duplex terminal in response to the signal transferred by the first base station, the message comprising information relative to quality measurements on the signals transferred by the first and second base stations, receiving a message indicating if the idle period of the cell of the second base station is compatible with the round trip delay of the first half-duplex terminal in the cell of the second base station, determining if a handover of the first half-duplex terminal has to be executed according to the compatibility.

  • Patent number: 8085700
Abstract: A multi-node communications system is provided with communications protocol using both static (11, 12, 13, 18) (pre-determined) and dynamic (51, 52, 53 . . . ) (run-time determined) consecutive communication slots is used. The system has a number of distributed communication nodes, each node being arranged for communicating frames of data with the other nodes during both the static (11, 12, 13 . . . ) and the dynamic (51, 52, 53 . . . ) communication slots. Each node includes a synchronized time base 5 made up of consecutive timeslots (11, 12, 13 . . . , 51, 52, 53 . . . ). The timebase 5 has substantially the same error tolerance in each node. For static communication (10), a predetermined number of timeslots (20) are utilized for each static communication slot. For dynamic communication a dynamically allocated number of timeslots (60) are utilized for each dynamic communication slot. In this way both static and dynamic media arbitration is provided within a periodically recurring communication pattern.

Abstract: A sampling rate allocation method for a wireless sensor network is provided. In this method, a distributed computing method is adopted to allow each node to calculate and obtain its decision table and energy table and upload its energy table to its parent node, and finally, the number of samples to be provided by all the child nodes is determined according to the decision table of the root node and a total sample number. Compared to the conventional techniques, the present invention provides a wireless sensor network which has longer life time and can meet the requirements to both the total number of samples and the fairness.

  • Patent number: 8085665
Abstract: To minimize overhead in the allocation of channels, forward and reverse link time slots are automatically assigned in pairs. In particular, rather than requiring a separate process for allocating reverse link channels for the sending of acknowledgment messages in response to receipt of a forward link packet, a different scenario takes place. At the receiving end, such as for valid reception of data on a forward link channel at a central base station site, a reverse link time slot is automatically allocated in a time slot which depends upon the time slot allocation on the forward link. This assists with the rapid return of acknowledgment messages in a reverse link direction which is the predominant direction for such messages in a wireless system wherein most data traffic is Web page oriented.

Abstract: Methods and systems for dynamically changing poll timing based on Bluetooth activity are disclosed. Aspects of one method may include determining synchronous Bluetooth activity between a Bluetooth master device and at least one Bluetooth slave device. The synchronous Bluetooth activity may comprise, for example, transmission of packets by the Bluetooth master device via a SCO link and/or a eSCO link. The Bluetooth master device may dynamically adjust a polling period based on the synchronous Bluetooth activity. For example, the polling period may be less when there is synchronous activity than when there is no synchronous activity. The polling periods for when there is synchronous activity and when there is no synchronous activity may be default values. The default polling periods may be changed to different values, for example, by the user.

Abstract: In an example embodiment, a method for speculative power saving. The beginning portion of a header (e.g. a physical layer convergence protocol “PLCP” header of a beacon) is processed to determine whether a predefined bit is set that indicates whether the frame contains any delivery traffic indication for buffered multicast and/or unicast frames. If the bit is set, indicating the frame contains no delivery traffic indication of buffered frames, receiving and processing of the frame stops (e.g. the remainder of the PPDU is not processed) and the receiver switches to a power save state. In an example embodiment, if a predefined NULL beacon frame is detected, receiving and processing of the frame (and PPDU) stops and the receiver switches to a power save state.
