Abstract: A method for determining padding compatibility is disclosed. A determination is made of a number of protocol data units (PDUs) for a logical channel mapped to a transport channel such that, for a logical channel allowing segmentation, calculate n wherein n=service data unit size/transport block size (SDU size/TB size), and on a condition that n is an integer, setting the number of PDUs=n.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for detecting deviations from legitimate operation on a wireless network. The method includes detecting a sequence of observable events related to operation of an entity in the wireless network, and determining from the detected sequence of observable events for a particular entity in the wireless network what number of idle slots occurred between two consecutive observable events to provide a first output. The method further includes obtaining a second output corresponding to the number of idle slots between two consecutive observable events for legitimate operation of any entity in the wireless network using the network transmission protocol, and comparing a function of the first output with a function of the second output to determine whether or not the particular entity is deviating from legitimate operation of the network transmission protocol.

  • Patent number: 8619789
Abstract: In one embodiment, a battery-operated communication device “quick-samples” a frequency hopping sequence at a periodic rate corresponding to a substantially low duty cycle, and is discovered by (e.g., attached to) a main-powered communication device. During a scheduled sample, the main-powered communication device transmits a control packet to be received by the battery-operated communication device, the control packet containing timing information and transmitted to account for worst-case clock drift error between the two devices. The battery-operated communication device responds to the control packet with a link-layer acknowledgment containing timing information from the battery-operated communication device. Accordingly, the two devices may re-synchronize their timing based on the timing information in the control packet and acknowledgment, respectively.

Abstract: Various example embodiments are disclosed herein. According to an example embodiment, a technique may include allocating periodic resources to a mobile station in a wireless network for transmission of voice data, receiving from the mobile station an indication of a start of a silence period, and adjusting, based on the receiving of the indication of a start of silence period, the allocating of the periodic resources from a size and period of resource for the voice data to a size and period of resource for a silence indication (SID) frame. Alternatively, in response to receiving an indication of a start of silence period, the allocating of periodic resources for the VoIP voice data may be temporarily stopped during the silence period.

Abstract: A method includes determining that a first station has been allocated a first time period to transmit over a shared medium in a network. The method includes transmitting, from the first station to a second station over the shared medium during the first time period, wherein stations other than the first station and the second station refrain from transmitting over the shared medium during the first time period. The method includes receiving, from the second station, a request message to allow the second station to transmit during the first time period and a requested amount of time to transmit. The method includes, in response to allowing the second station to transmit during the first time period, determining an authorized amount of time for the second station to transmit during the first time period, and transmitting an authorization message for the second station to transmit and the authorized amount of time.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and arrangement for efficient use of network resources, in particular for continuous connectivity services. The present invention introduces a set of established rules for uplink and/or downlink activity detection such that a Node B and/or a UE is enabled to detect active and inactive transmission periods on links for reception of packet data transmission and can independently arrange for inactivity/activity state transitions without any need of further signalling. Such a set of rules can be communicated to the Node B and the user equipment, e.g., from the radio network controller (RNC), or can consist of a predefined set of fixed rules that is readily implemented in said units.

  • Patent number: 8542620
Abstract: Mobile access points typically run on batteries, and therefore, can operate for a limited amount of time without an external power source. However, because the access point service model requiring the access point to always be available and the access point's limited battery capacity reduces the time that the mobile access point can be used. Functionality can be incorporated in mobile access points to implement power saving mechanisms by altering the service model that requires the access point to always be available. Configuring the access point to enter into a low powered state for a predefined period of time can conserve mobile access point power and prolong battery life. Functionality for implementing power saving mechanisms can also be incorporated on fixed access points for efficient utilization of computing resources.

Abstract: A network device includes a substitutor and a transmitter. The substitutor receives input columns of concurrently received input symbols. Each of the input columns includes one input symbol from each of a plurality of parallel input lanes. The substitutor generates output columns corresponding to the input columns, wherein each of the output columns includes one output symbol for each of a plurality of parallel output lanes. The substitutor replaces the output symbols of a selected column of the output columns with alignment symbols. The selected column is immediately followed by a second column, and the second column is immediately followed by a third column. The substitutor replaces the output symbols of the second column with disposable symbols, and replaces the output symbols of the third column with boundary symbols. The transmitter drives data onto a communications medium in response to the output symbols generated by the substitutor module.
