This configuration can significantly reduce the comparator count and so the gate count as well as the chip area in a framer. Power consumption can be advantageously reduced as one comparator operating serially consumes less power than multiple comparators in parallel because less gate toggling is involved.

The concentrator may also provide digital signal processing (DSP) as a shared resource for the radio heads (36, 38). The DSP may include channel coding. The radio heads (36, 38) may provide modulation for channel coded signals transmitted from the concentrator (32) via the LAN (20). The LAN may be wired LAN or a wireless LAN.

    Abstract: An interpolator or decimator includes an elastic storage element in the signal path between first and second clock domains. The elastic element may, for example, be a FIFO which advantageously allows short term variation in sample clocks to be absorbed. A feedback mechanism controls a delta-sigma modulated modulo-N counter based sample clock generator. The elastic element combined with a delta-sigma modulator and counter creates a noise-shaped frequency lock loop without additional components, resulting in a much simplified interpolator and decimator.

The PLL locks the phase and the frequency of a radio frequency signal to generate a recovery clock signal and received data. The data buffer unit writes the received data into an elastic buffer of the data buffer unit according to the frequency of the recovery clock signal, and reads the received data from the elastic buffer according to the frequency of a local clock signal generated by the local clock generator. The control unit obtains a write-in address and a read-out address in the elastic buffer, and sends a control signal to the local clock generator for adjusting the frequency of the local clock signal according to relationship between the write-in address and the read-out address.

The base station rate matches data associated with PDSCH, comprising DBCH, around the guard time region, and transmits PDSCH to the mobile device. The mobile device identifies the guard time parameter and rate matches at least a portion of the information received via the PDSCH around the guard time region to facilitate enhanced reception of PDSCH. Optionally, a radio frame sequence can be structured so that a subframe immediately following a subframe containing DBCH is a downlink subframe, which can be known by the mobile device a priori or based on a downlink subframe parameter.
