Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a communication device having a controller to retrieve a targeted party telephone number, retrieve a telephone number assigned to the communication device, submit to a system at least a portion of the targeted party telephone number and at least a portion of the telephone number assigned to the communication device, receive from the system information indicating a dialing format for the targeted party telephone number, and initiate communications according to the information supplied by the system. Abstract: A method, apparatus, system, and computer readable medium for authenticating the identity of a caller. An authentication device authenticates a caller's identity based on received information of the caller and an identifier generation device generates an identifier containing the caller's identity. The authentication information is supplied to a mobile telephone user acting as a callee. Therefore, the callee knows the caller's identity, thereby providing a secure delivering channel.

Abstract: A receiving unit receives state information including operational state of an IP phone terminal, user ID, and destination ID, and stores it in a state storage unit. An obtaining unit obtains state information including a user ID included in received state information from the state storage unit. Abstract: A method, system, and apparatus of a touch-based authentication of a mobile device through user generated pattern creation are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method of a mobile device includes recognizing a tactile pattern on a touch screen without a visual aid as an unlocking gesture, storing the unlocking gesture to a memory of the mobile device, associating another tactile pattern on the touch screen with the unlocking gesture, and transforming the mobile device from an initial state to an unlocked state based on the association between the another tactile pattern and the unlocking gesture. The method may include transforming the mobile device to operate as a telephonic communication device in the unlocked state.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for enabling a telephone caller to generate a brief message for transmission to an intended call recipient, as part of the initial procedure of setting up a phone call between the caller and recipient. The message is sent and displayed or otherwise made available to the recipient before the recipient is required to answer the call. The message could comprise a sequence of alphanumeric characters that conveyed an abbreviated message, or otherwise indicates the purpose to the call to the recipient or provides other information. Respective characters could be transmitted as corresponding sequences of binary tones sent to the call recipient between telephone rings.

Abstract: A one number, multi-application, intelligent call processing system provides service benefits to a caller, a servicing location and/or a vanity number advertiser during a call, parallel to the call and/or post call in an integrated common architecture. The system utilizes VRU technology in conjunction with the national telecommunications network connected via Computer Telephone Integration (CTI) to a virtual telephone number database containing a nationwide master list of telephone numbers with attribute data items associated by Spatial Key linkage to each telephone number. The process of the invention is initiated by a caller dialing a selected telephone number to request information and/or services. Based on the number dialed, a caller or network provided ten-digit telephone number and VRU prompted for and received caller input, the system retrieves the application requested data from the virtual telephone number database and provides it to the network.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a system authenticates a caller before providing the caller with access to one or more secured resources. Identification and verification data is stored during system enrollment of known persons. A processing system, in a current call initiated by a caller and prior to identification of the caller, receives voice-based information for the caller including a digital representation of a telephone number spoken by the caller in the current call, the received information including voice-based identification information and voice-based verification information for the caller. The processing system automatically compares the received identification information and the received verification information for the caller with the stored identification and verification data for known persons, respectively, to uniquely identify and verify the identity of the caller as a particular known person. The processing system authenticates the caller for access to the one or more secured resources in response.

Abstract: In an illustrative embodiment, methods and systems are provided for processing facsimiles. A call processing system receives a first message transmitted from a first carrier system regarding a facsimile call to a phone address. The first message includes an identifier associated with the user. The identifier is used to determine if the user is authorized to receive call processing system services. If the user is authorized, a second message is transmitted to the first carrier system, the second message indicating that the first carrier system is to connect the call to the call processing system. The call processing system is connected to the call. A facsimile is received via the call at the call processing system. Information regarding the facsimile call is provided over a network, wherein some or all of the information is displayed in a call log visually accessible by the user.

Abstract: The present invention is related to telecommunications, and in particular to systems and methods of using telecommunication services for user authentication. Account information is stored for a user, the account information including at least a first phone number associated with the user. A user order is received. A verification phone call is received from the user, the call including charge phone number information. The charge number information is compared to the first phone number to authenticate that the user is associated with the first phone number. Based at least in part on the comparison, the user order is selectively caused to be fulfilled.

Abstract: A system for obtaining a digital signature incorporates two communication channels, and at least one of third-party data sources, geographic correlation algorithms, speech recognition algorithms, voice biometric comparison algorithms, and mechanisms to convert textual data into speech. A site visitor's identity can be verified using one or all of such features in combination with a visitors address on one of the channels.

Abstract: A control method of telephone user call is provided, which includes the following steps. A telephone user makes a call, and transmits a calling message to a corresponding processing device. The processing device extracts calling information of the user from the calling message, compares with a trap identification (trap ID) database, and determines whether a called number matches with one of the trap IDs in the database. If the called number does not match with any of the trap IDs, the call continues. If the called number matches with one of the trap IDs, the processing device notifies the query result and warning information to the user.

Abstract: A personal communications system includes an interface unit which transmits calls received on a mobile wireless phone to one or more hard-wired telephones. In one embodiment, the interface unit includes a connector which mates with a voice communications port of a wireless device, which may be a cell phone, web-enabled phone, personal digital assistant adapted for wireless communications, or a so-called pocket PC. When a call is received by the wireless device, a processor automatically sends the call to a hard-wired telephone through the connector. In another embodiment, the interface unit is equipped to receive multiple wireless devices, and calls from each device are managed to prevent calls from two or more of the devices from being sent to the hard-wired telephone at the same time. This system thereby advantageously allows a use only one telephone number to satisfy all his personal communications needs.

Abstract: A method of authenticating a caller and authorizing a cal lee in a user-device environment may include receiving, by a gateway, a logon request comprising information associated with a caller and determining whether the caller is a subscriber based on at least a portion of the received caller information. If the caller is a subscriber, an other gateway may receive information associated with a callee who belongs to a contact list associated with the caller. The other gateway may determine whether the callee is authorized based on at least the callee information and the caller information, and if the callee is authorized, a call between the caller and the callee may be connected.

Abstract: In a telephone terminal an incoming call is detected from a calling entity followed by determining a caller identity of the calling entity. Then it is determined whether the caller identity is associated with a subscription to presence information associated with the calling entity, where the presence information includes media data for output through an output unit in the telephone terminal. If the caller identity was determined to be associated with a subscription to presence information, it is determined whether the media data is present in the terminal, and if the media data is present in the terminal, the media data is output through an output unit in the telephone terminal.

Abstract: Transparent caller name authentication is provided to authorized third parties by creating an Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificate chain. An owner of a registered caller name can authorize third parties to use the caller name by issuing a PKI sub-certificate to each authorized third party. An authenticated caller name displays the owner's name to the called party. Outsourcing and mobile employment is thereby facilitated, and called party confusion is reduced.

Abstract: A tangible storage medium stores code which permits handling of unwanted calls from callers such as telemarketers, when caller identification is provided. In one embodiment, the called party adds the caller identification information for the telemarketer to a personal list after receiving the unwanted call. Subsequent calls from the telemarketer are intercepted. In a second embodiment, the called party identifies the telemarketer by detecting the caller identification information before answering the call. By providing a screen listing indication, the caller identification information is added to the called party's personal list before the call is completed, permitting the call to be intercepted and while future calls from the telemarketer to be intercepted.

When a call is placed over a communication network, a validation system receives the call signaling, and processes the call signaling to identify originating node information in the call signaling. The originating node information is inserted by the communication network when handling the call and pertains to a network node that originates the call into the network. The validation system also processes the call signaling to identify caller ID information for the call. The validation system then processes the originating node information and the caller ID information to determine whether the call originated from the originating node. If the call did originate from the originating node, then the validation system determines that the caller ID information is valid.

To this end, the guardian must acquire a connection authority prior to recognizing the state of the ward. The acquisition of the connection authority is performed under the control of the server performing the authorization process. When a terminal of the guardian having the acquired connection authority tries to establish a remote connection, a terminal of a ward permits the connection after determining if the terminal having the right connection authority tries to establish a connection. When the connection is permitted, only a microphone is turned on, so that the terminal of the ward can transfer surrounding sounds to a terminal of the guardian. Therefore, the guardian can hear surrounding sounds, thereby recognizing the current sate of the ward, where the ward is and what the ward is doing.

The system includes management software capable of implementing widespread or local changes to the system and is further capable of modifying or setting any number of user account parameters.

Abstract: An enhanced caller-id service providing multi-media based caller information to subscribers via a server system. The server system can combine user-provided profile information with other data to provide more detailed reports for the subscriber. The server can also be used to maintain long-term calling records for subscribers. The caller information can be accessed remotely by the subscriber and can be downloaded from the server to another computer for use with other applications.

Abstract: A method, system, and program for origin device initiated callee identification are provided. At an origin device, a voice utterance of a callee is detected from a destination device. A callee identity associated with the voice utterance is identified at the origin device, such that the callee identity is transmittable as an authenticated identity of the callee for a call. A caller may select whether to continue a call dependent upon whether the callee identity is preferable. In addition, an intermediary device may receive the callee identity and specify services available during the call according to the callee identity.

Abstract: A system and method for processing caller information across heterogeneous networks is provided. An enterprise application receives a message from a name resolution adapter over a computer network. The message includes caller attributes and port location information. The enterprise application uses the caller attributes to retrieve a caller profile. The enterprise application determines whether to accept the call using the caller profile and whether a call exists on a telephone port corresponding to the port location information. Once enterprise application decides to accept the call, the enterprise application retrieves service subscriptions corresponding to the caller and processes the call using the caller's service subscriptions.

Abstract: A method for preventing false starts during a handshake session involves the use of service identifiers for modem devices. The identifications are provided to one another for subsequent communication. To commence communications, a local device generates a request signal to initiate a handshake session. The request signal includes an identification unique to the remote device. The remote device receives the request and verifies the identification. The remote device then sends a response, which may optionally include an identification unique to the local device. The local device receives the response and verifies the identification before completing the handshake session.

Abstract: A first electronic device engages in a voice communication with another electronic device. The voice communication is associated with data stored by the first electronic device. In some instances, the data is generated the first electronic device or received by the first electronic device from the second electronic device in response to, or as a consequence of the voice of the voice communication. During the voice communication, or sometime after the voice communication is terminated, the first electronic device determines that the data is associated with the voice communication. The data is then made available to an application program, so that the data can be associated with other data. Thus, a human user of the first electronic device is relieved of identifying data within a context, and relieved of the task associating the data with other data.
