  • Patent number: 6487286
Abstract: The common channel signaling (CCS) system of the public switched telecommunication network involves digital call routing information that is communicated between the switches of the network and signal transfer points (STPs) of the CCS system and among the STPs themselves. The CCS system causes the network switches and the trunks that connect them to be so interconnected as to complete a connection between a calling party and a called party. The STPs are kept as close as practicable to the network switches so as to minimize the length of the digital transmission links between them. This results in a proliferation of less-than-optimally utilized STPs.

  • Patent number: 6466792
Abstract: A system and method for effectuating selective triggerless local number portability (TLNP) processing in a telecommunications network having a cellular network portion and a wireline network portion. When an IAM message is received at a signaling node from an MSC on a TLNP-enabled link set, a determination is made at an STP associated therewith whether the NPA-NXX of the received dialed number is marked as portable. If not, the TLNP processing is discontinued and the message as originally received is forwarded to the wireline network portion for further processing. Otherwise, another determination is made if the dialed number is a ported number. If it is determined that the dialed number is not a ported number, the IAM message is marked as dipped and forwarded to the wireline network portion based on the Destination Point Code (DPC) associated with the message.

It allows an intermediate SP to terminate its TC-dialogue (signaling transaction) after it is no longer needed from a functional standpoint, while preserving end-to-end TCAP connectivity. It also allows an intermediate signaling point (e.g., switch or database) to forward a query to a second signaling point (e.g., second switch or database), while otherwise staying out of the TC-dialogue. In both instances, greater efficiency and better use of network resources can be achieved.

  • Patent number: 6330324
Abstract: A method, in an advanced intelligent communications system, for routing a call based on the location of the calling party number where a telephone call to an abbreviated destination telephone number is received at a service switching point. The service switching point determines if the abbreviated destination number is a triggering number, and if so, notifies a service control point of receipt of the telephone call. The location of the calling party number is determined from location information related to the service switching point. The appropriate routing of the telephone call is determined based on the location of the calling party number. Call routing information regarding the telephone call is sent to the service switching point where the service switching point routes the telephone call to a destination number or a default announcement.

Abstract: An on-demand teleconferencing system and method for setting up an on-demand conference call in a telecommunications system having the Advanced Information Network (AIN) architecture with system signaling the number 7 (SS7) and a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). A subscriber is assigned an on-demand conference call number. When that number is dialed into the PSTN, it is identified by the PSTN that the dialed number requires handling by the SS7. The SS7 links the dialed number to a conference allocation and control system (CACS) which is connected to a plurality of scalable bridge servers. The CACS selects bridge servers available to handle the conference call and based upon a selection criteria such as a peak load sets up the on-demand conference call in one of the selected bridge servers.

  • Patent number: 6327355
Abstract: A system and method for implementing services in an intelligent network of a telecommunications system. Upon registration of a subscriber station in a mobile telecommunications network, a plurality of triggers associated with the subscriber are downloaded to a switch that is handling the call. Subsequently, a trigger condition is detected at the switch, and a query signal is sent to a server storing data for responding to the trigger condition. In response to the query signal, a bundle of platform independent code comprising instructions for executing a particular service is downloaded to the switch. The code is executed at the switch to implement the particular service, and appropriate actions are taken in accordance with the implemented service.

Abstract: There is provided an INAP processing method for communication between an SSP and TCAP. When an INAP message is sent from the INAP of the SSP to the TCAP, a TC component to be transmitted is generated, an invoke ID and dialogue ID are allocated to the generated TC component, a TC primitive corresponding to the state of an allocated dialogue is created and encoded, to be sent to the TCAP through the TCAP interface block. In case where the INAP of an SSP receives an INAP message from the TCAP, the received INAP message is decoded based on the type thereof and a corresponding SCP relationship object is found using the dialogue ID included in the decoded INAP message. When the TC component and TC primitive are contained in the decoded message, the TC primitive is executed first and then the TC component is processed. When a corresponding call has been processed, the found SCP relationship object is deleted, finishing the dialogue with the SCP.

  • Patent number: 6324274
Abstract: A user profile for use, for example in a personal numbering service, has an associated confidence value for each of the destination terminal numbers in the profile, a confidence value representing the confidence of a call being successfully answered at the associated network terminal. When a service using the profile needs to route a call for a user, the corresponding profile is accessed and the call is routed to the destination terminal number having the highest confidence value. The profile is managed to modify the confidence values depending upon the outcome of the call, and also upon registration of a personal number user at a network terminal. The confidence values are probabilities and when one confidence value is increased because of a successful outcome, the other values are adjusted. The confidence values can be a function of time to represent lessening confidence that a user is still at the network terminal of his last registration.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for establishing a connection from a calling A-subscriber to a called B-subscriber in a telecommunications TC network that offers IN (=Intelligent Network) services, in particular in a multi-operator environment with IN-supported telephone number portability, is characterized in that upon determination of the target address of the called B-subscriber, a service requested for the current call by the calling A-subscriber is simultaneously compared to a stored service profile of the called B-subscriber and in the event of a determined incompatibility, a corresponding negative release message is sent to the calling A-subscriber. This permits the calling A-subscriber, before a possibly pointless connection is made to a called B-subscriber, who does not offer the services desired by the A-subscriber at all, to not even make the connection in the first place, which would be pointless for the calling A-subscriber.
