Abstract: A mechanism for indicating a specific response message to be played to a caller is provided. A call that comprises an identification of a caller is received in a recipient device. If the recipient device is operating in the phone management mode, a recipient notification of the call is blocked on the recipient device. If the caller is identified as a known caller based on the identification of the caller, a caller specific response message is sent to the known caller. The caller specific response message is at least one of an interactive or a non-interactive caller specific response message. The interactive response message includes a code with which to respond. If the response message is the interactive response message and the caller enters the code associated with the interactive response message, then the recipient notification of the call is activated on the recipient device.

Abstract: In a telecommunications device a number or address is selected from a stored list for initiating a call or sending a message from the telecommunications device to the number or address. The list includes names and one or more numbers and/or addresses corresponding to each name. At least some of said stored names are displayed, and one of the displayed names is highlighted. The highlighted name is displayed together with a default one of the one or more numbers and/or addresses corresponding to the highlighted name.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes obtaining information relating to a first telephone number, and determining whether the first telephone number corresponds to a first speed dial button on a device. The first speed dial button is highlighted if the first telephone number corresponds to the first speed dial button. If the first telephone number does not correspond to the first speed dial button, the method also includes determining whether the first telephone number is associated with a second telephone number, determining whether the second telephone number corresponds to the first speed dial button if the first telephone number is associated with the second telephone number, and highlighting the first speed dial button when it is determined that the second telephone number corresponds to the first speed dial button.

Abstract: A system for effecting a telephone call between telephonic devices is operative to use a computer network, without manual use of the alphanumeric keypads. A third party call control (3PCC) application program interface (API) provides the capability for users to use a web browser or other Internet capable software to place a call, rather than using the telephone keypad. A third party call control application program interface includes a uniform resource locator operable over the Internet to cause a call between a first telephonic device and a second telephonic device to be completed. The uniform resource locator includes identification of the first telephonic device and identification of the second telephonic device.

Abstract: An approach is provided for enhancing verbal communication sessions. A verbal component of a communication session is converted into textual information. The converted textual information is scanned for a text string to trigger an application. The application is invoked to provide supplemental information about the textual information or to perform an action in response to the textual information for or on behalf of a party of the communication session. The supplemental information or a confirmation of the action is transmitted to the party.

Abstract: An advertisement delivery system by a telephone service utilizing IP telephone communication technology. The system comprises at least a call control apparatus controlling calling between a sending side terminal provided with a reproduction device and a receiving side terminal, and an advertisement delivery apparatus delivering advertisement video information to the terminal. The call control apparatus comprises a monitoring function unit monitoring the “voice media state” and “video media state” of the terminal and a delivery connection function unit delivering the advertisement video information based on the results of monitoring.

Abstract: In a Voice over IP system, a user can dial numbers stored in a series of lists, which are stored in the system and displayed to the user of an IP telephone. One implementation will allow a user to scroll through a list of remote sites. When the user finds the desired site, the user is then presented with the same options as a user local to that site. All of this can be performed without the need for an operator or a printed directory. This system provides an ability for a user to scroll through a list of names and phone numbers and then call a person once their name and phone number is displayed.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for providing detailed information about a party during interparty communication. Data-capable mobile devices query at least a public database to retrieve information about a set of parties engaged in communication. The results of the database query are employed to provide detailed caller identification and detail functionality to telephones or communication devices not utilizing traditional landlines or commercial caller identification service. Storage can be included to include address book function, query caching, and user preferences. An interface can be provided to facilitate display of rich caller identification information. The interface can further update displayed information without user input, or provide user selection control to request more information on a selected portion of displayed information. These features can be applied to determine the information about a party that is either receiving a communication or initiating a communication.

Abstract: Directory assistance provides telephone number look up services to callers based on the business or caller name as listed in a telephone directory. In the prior art, directory assistance provides a value-added service to telephone users and an expense that must be charged back to telephone callers or absorbed by telephone carriers. In enhanced directory assistance (EDA) services as described in the disclosure, EDA is further developed to deliver a keyword targeted advertising service to telephone listing owners and advertisers. The present invention provides a method and system to extend EDA services to the wireless messaging systems used by telecommunications operators. The invention further discloses methods to support both one-way and two-way communications on these devices, as well as systems to support the distributed EDA Transaction business model.

Abstract: The present invention includes a method and software application for providing a promotion to a user on a phone. The software application resides on a user's phone and “listens” for phone numbers dialed by a user. In response to the user dialing a phone number, the software determines whether a promotion or an offer for a promotion should be provided to the user. In response to determining to play or offer to play a promotion to the user, the software application on the phone effectively “intercepts” the call and plays to the user either a promotion or an offer to hear about a promotion prior to placing an outbound voice call. The software application may retrieve the promotion from local memory or may connect with a remote server to download an applicable promotion.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing third party call services with the delivery of content to a calling party communication device are described herein. The systems may comprise a website server and telco gateway configured to enable a calling party to initiate a communication session between a calling party communication device and a called party communication device via a web page of a website hosted by the website server. During establishment of the communication session, the telco gateway determines what content to deliver to the calling party communication device and delivers such content to the calling party communication device while waiting to receive an answer of a call initiated to the called party communication device. The system may deliver different forms of content to a calling party communication device based on a variety of considerations.

Abstract: A computing device is configured to receive an incoming communication from another computing device. The incoming communication may be for purpose of initiating a voice-exchange session. In response to receiving the incoming call, the computing device may identify or determine a message identifier of the other computing device. The message identifier is determined based at least in part on data provided with the incoming communication. The computing device may programmatically address a message to the other computing device using the message identifier determined from the incoming communication.

Abstract: A method for switching interactive modes in a menu system is disclosed. An audio interactive voice response session is established to provide audio menus to a communication device. A data session with said communication device is also established. The data session is used to instruct the communication device to display indicia that a second mode may be activated. The indicia may be an icon indicative of the second mode. A user selection of the indicia on the communication device sends a message to the IVR system indicating that the second mode is to be activated. The second mode may be a text mode wherein text menus are presented to the user instead of audio menus. The second mode may be a suspend mode whereby the IVR session is halted at its present menu choices and saved for later reactivation.

Abstract: A system for placing a telephone call on hold and presenting video to the user that has been placed on hold comprises video on hold arbiter that either is a part of the server or the switch of an IP telephony system. The video on hold arbiter comprises a hold monitoring module, a switch interface module and a media source interface module. The video on hold arbiter monitors calls between parties for the selection of a hold signal indicating that a first caller is placing a second caller on hold. The video on hold arbiter then determines the capabilities of the first caller and the second caller, a source video signal and switches the call to a video-on-hold status. In the video-on-hold status, the video on hold arbiter provides a video signal to the caller on hold from the determined source video and matching the capabilities of the party on hold. Video on hold arbiter and monitors for an off hold signal.

The user can scroll (left, right, up, down) to select the image representing the desired call destination and upon selection from the user the wireless communication device places a call (voice or data) to the selected call destination or allows editing of the corresponding contact record. The pictures or diagrams presented to the user may be from a dynamic (e.g., most frequent contacts) or persistent (e.g., My favorites) predetermined list.

A software device application enables the communication device to communicate with the call center through the exchange of data. The controls allow the user to request a list of providers from which to select a provider or company to contact. The communication device further provides controls for allowing the user to select a queue to join from a list of queues associated with the selected provider. An embodiment of a system and method for managing, directing, and queuing communication events may also communicate contextual data between a communication device and a communication system.

Abstract: A computer system and method is disclosed for automatically establishing a screen sharing session between a first party and a second party based upon device associations. A computer telephony system establishes a telecommunication session between at least a first and second party. The computer telephony system receives a request for a screen sharing session from one party to the telecommunication session. Using a configuration plan, the computer telephony system is able to determine the proper computing devices between which to establish the screen sharing session absent user entry. A screen sharing session is created between the parties of the telecommunication session and optionally tied thereto.

Abstract: Update data is dispatched by a communication center to terminals with the aid of a broadcasting network. Next, the terminals report their update to the center through a bidirectional network. The center renews a current campaign or stops the campaign as a function of the number of terminals updated. When only a minimum number of terminals need to be updated, the campaign is stopped and the last terminals that were not updated through the campaign transmitted through broadcast network will be updated via the bidirectional link.

In addition to the call request, the roster of the participants is sent to the additional communication device. The additional communication device receives the call request and the roster. The roster is displayed to the user of the additional communication device. The user can then indicate to answer the call request. If answered, the additional communication device sends an indication that the call was answered and the additional communication device is conferenced into the call.

Abstract: This invention provides a network access system that permits communication device users to access a network such as the Internet, a cable network, a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) network or a broadband network (which may include cable and DSL networks). A network access device receives commands from users and executes the commands such as send e-mail, search the network, log on to pages supported by other parties on the network, download information from the network, request information such as movies from the network, bidding in an auction, etc. A user profile saves preferences of a user for interacting with the network. The network access device may supply primitive commands for the user to use individually or to construct complex command macros so that by a single command, more complex functions may be performed using the network.

The server system can combine user-provided profile information with other data to provide more detailed reports for the subscriber. Abstract: A mechanism for facilitating customer interactions within a customer service environment provides prompt and accurate answers to customer questions. A smart chat facility for use in a customer service environment to predict a customer problem examines a customer chat transcript to identify customer statements that set forth a customer issue and, responsive to this, can route the customer to an agent, an appropriate FAQ, or can implement a problem specific widget in the customer UI. Customer queries are matched with most correct responses and accumulated knowledge is used to predict a best response to future customer queries. The iterative system thus learns from each customer interaction and can adapt to customer responses over time to improve the accuracy of problem prediction.

Abstract: A system and method to provide content and call attributes for a destination phone number using a click-to-dial connection includes accepting a query, retrieving links to a document, and searching through cached data using the query to identify relevant or destination number information.
