Abstract: Provided is an iron device. The iron device includes a base provided with a heat generator; a press plate arranged to pivot between a first position at which the press plate covers the base and a second position at which the press plate uncovers the base; a steam nozzle arranged to, with the press plate being in the first position, supply steam to a space between the base and the press plate; and a press driver configured to, with the press plate being in the first position, mechanically move the press plate in a first direction toward the base and second direction away from the base.

Abstract: A method of forming a planarized layer on a substrate, where the substrate is cleaned, and the layer is formed having a surface with high portions and low portions. A resistive mask is formed over the low portions of the layer, but not over the high portions of the layer. The surface of the layer is etched, where the high portions of the layer are exposed to the etch, but the low portions of the layer underlying the resistive mask are not exposed to the etch. The etch of the surface of the layer is continued until the high portions of the layer are at substantially the same level as the low portions of the layer, thereby providing an initial planarization of the surface of the layer. The resistive mask is removed from the surface of the layer, and all of the surface of the layer is planarized to provide a planarized layer.

Abstract: A clothing presser is provided with a stationary ironing buck, a movable ironing head, a rocking arm having the head mounted on its forward end and adapted to swing to bring the head onto the buck, and a toggle mechanism operated by a pneumatically operated piston-cylinder assembly to impart an additional force to the head to permit the head to be strongly pressed against clothing on the buck.

Abstract: A safety system for garment pressers which have a head movable against a buck with a garment therebetween and steam vents opening through the head and buck, the safety system being operable to deactivate the press and raise the head in the event the operator's hand or arm should be caught in the press, and including an involuntary safety comprising a bar movable relative to the press during normal operation to engage a portion of the operator's hands or arms, if caught in the press, regardless of the attitude of the hands or arms, mechanism operable by such engagement to deactivate the press, possibly also including a voluntary, manually operable safety for deactivating the press intentionally, and a device for preventing either the involuntary or voluntary safety devices from being used to shorten the pre-set pressing cycle time to gain production at the expense of quality.
