  • Publication number: 20030159318
Abstract: A press-head with a self-levelling mechanism automatically adjusts the position of the press-head when it encounters a variation in thickness of an item being pressed. In the preferred embodiment, the mechanism includes a plurality of pins which stand proud of the sole plate and are retained slidably and tiltably by the main body. Advantageously, a spring may be provided about each pin between the main body and the sole plate. The press-head has means for connecting it to a lifting shaft of a garment press and the pins may be arranged in a symmetrical array relative to that shaft.

  • Patent number: 5181333
Abstract: A height adjustable pants finishing device includes a pair of topping bucks positioned in the top portion of a pair of pants to be finished. Waist clamps hold the pants in the desired orientation; then, pressing plates engage pleats to hold the pleats for pressing. Additional pressing plates engage the top portion of the pants for high quality finishing of the top of the pants. The cuffs of the pants are clamped together, and steam is injected into the pants for finishing. After steaming, heated air is passed through the pants to set the creases.

  • Patent number: 5014453
Abstract: An improved head and buck for a fabric pressing machine, each comprising a hollow casting. The head has an upper steam chamber and a lower spray chamber. A cowling surrounds the head steam chamber, having air intake holes at one end and an air valve near its other end directly connecting the cowling to the spray chamber. The head has a resilient peripheral sealing element engaging a peripheral rim on the buck when the head is closed thereagainst. The buck has a vacuum valve connecting the buck to a source of vacuum. With the head sealed about the buck, air in heat exchange with the head steam chamber within the cowling can be drawn through the workpiece during the drying step of the pressing cycle by opening the buck vacuum valve. The buck is provided with a grid plate, pad and cover assembly which is divided longitudinally into front and rear halves.

  • Patent number: 4998360
Abstract: A portable ironing press uses a compression spring to generate pressure between two pivotable plates for smoothing out a garment. The press includes a chain-and-gear arrangement to selectively apply the pressure of the spring to the plates.

  • Patent number: 4399624
Abstract: A garment pressing machine wherein a pivotable link is disposed in spaced relationship to the machine arm carrying the machine pressing head and an actuator is arranged between the link and arm to provide the necessary pressure for pressing. Initial pivoting of the arm and link with the actuator therebetween occurs before the application of force by the actuator. A latching mechanism prevents reverse pivoting of the link during force application and the desired pressing pressure is achieved. The latching mechanism is further arranged so as not to latch unless initial pivoting of the arm has been completed.

  • Patent number: 4300296
Abstract: In an ironing press the heating plate is suspended in a pivotal manner on the arm of the press by the intermediary of two sliders each engaged in a bore of the arm. The lower end of each slider presents a diammetrical hole engaged with a stirrup, mounted on a profile or section solid with the heating plate. Thus, when the heating plate is lowered onto the ironing board, it can adapt its position with respect to this latter, taking into account the differences in thickness of the article to be ironed.

  • Patent number: 4137655
Abstract: A trouser pressing apparatus comprising two pairs of horizontal pressing plates, arranged at 90.degree. - 110.degree. to each other and two further pairs of pressing plates arranged above the horizontal pressing plates, carriages on which the lower plates are mounted, clamps for clamping the legs to the plates and for stretching the legs longitudinally, means for stretching the legs transversely, means for applying vacuum to the legs to hold them in position on the lower pressing plates and means for lowering the upper pressing plates onto the lower plates when these latter are in their rearward position and means for steaming and applying pressure to the trouser legs.

  • Patent number: 3986281
Abstract: A safety system for garment pressers which have a head movable against a buck with a garment therebetween and steam vents opening through the head and buck, the safety system being operable to deactivate the press and raise the head in the event the operator's hand or arm should be caught in the press, and including an involuntary safety comprising a bar movable relative to the press during normal operation to engage a portion of the operator's hands or arms, if caught in the press, regardless of the attitude of the hands or arms, mechanism operable by such engagement to deactivate the press, possibly also including a voluntary, manually operable safety for deactivating the press intentionally, and a device for preventing either the involuntary or voluntary safety devices from being used to shorten the pre-set pressing cycle time to gain production at the expense of quality.
