  • Patent number: 8842887
Abstract: Biometric data, suitably transformed are obtained from a biometric input device contained within a stand-alone computing device and used in conjunction with a PIN to authenticate the user to the device. The biometric template and other data residing on the device are encrypted using hardware elements of the device, the PIN and Password hash. A stored obfuscated password is de-obfuscated and released to the device authentication mechanism in response to a successfully decrypted template and matching biometric sample and PIN. The de-obfuscated password is used to authenticate the user to device, the user to a remote computer, and to encrypt device data at rest on the device and in transit to and from the remote computer. This creates a trusted relationship between the stand-alone device and the remote computer. The system also eliminates the need for the user to remember and enter complex passwords on the device.

Abstract: Apparatus for identifying video content includes a scene detector to detect a plurality of consecutive scenes in the video content. The video content may include a video program and an advertisement contained within the video program. A signature generator determines a scene change signature for each of the plurality of consecutive scenes. A content identifier provides the plurality of scene change signatures to a comparator that compares the plurality of scene change signatures to a database having a plurality of video content items to identify the video program. The database includes an ordered plurality of previously determined scene change signatures for each item of video content in the database. The content identifier receives an identification of the video content from the comparator. The content identifier may further receive information related to a position of the plurality of scene change signatures within the ordered plurality of previously determined scene change signatures.

Abstract: A biometric information processing apparatus includes: a biometric information acquiring unit which acquires biometric input data representing a user's biometric input information; and a processing unit. The processing unit executes: extracting a feature quantity characterizing a feature of the biometric information from the biometric input information; classifying, based on the extracted feature quantity, the biometric input information into at least one of a plurality of classes categorized according to common features of biometric information, computing a confidence level for each class into which the biometric input information has been classified; judging whether or not a maximum value of the confidence level is larger than a threshold value predefined for the class corresponding to the maximum value among the plurality of classes; and, if the maximum value is not larger than the threshold value, prompting the user to have the user's biometric information reacquired.

Abstract: Video-based handwriting input for biometric signature data collection is provided. The invention is implemented by finding all of the relative positions among all light points of light sources when all light sources mounted on a stylus are turned ON. An image is captured including effective strokes and digital data of pen pressure with a digital camera when a user writes on a writing surface with a stylus having a light source indicating x-y coordinates of strokes. The images are time-stamped. The stylus includes a micro-switch. When the stylus touches the writing surface, the micro-switch is turned on to let the light source indicating x-y coordinates of strokes turn ON and generate a light point. Effective stroke images and digital data of pen pressure are extracted by comparing the captured images with the light point on the stylus.

Abstract: The disclosed Biometric Card Pointer arrangements store (207) a card user's biometric signature in a local memory (124) in a verification station (127) the first time the card user uses the verification station (127) in question. The biometric signature is stored at a memory address (607) defined by the card information (605) on the user's card (601). All future uses of the particular verification station (127) by someone submitting the aforementioned card (601) requires the card user to submit both the card and a biometric signature, which is verified against the signature stored at the memory address defined by the card information (605) thereby determining if the person submitting the card is authorized to do so.

Abstract: The provenance of passengers intending to depart on a vehicle from a transportation facility, is ensured by providing biometric reading devices at both a check-in station and a departure area station of the facility. The name and/or other information concerning a passenger arriving at the facility is also entered for assessment into a background check system. A biometric template of the passenger is acquired by the reading device at the check-in station and forwarded to the departure area station. When the passenger appears at the latter station, a second biometric template is acquired by the reading device there. The second template is compared with each of a number of templates that were forwarded from the check-in station. If no match exists, or if the background check system returns an unsatisfactory assessment, the passenger is refused boarding onto the vehicle.

Abstract: A handwriting apparatus has unit for acquiring first-handwriting data, storage unit for storing one-stroke-handwriting data and a first command as an instruction. The instruction corresponds to the one-stroke-handwriting data. When the first-handwriting data corresponds to the one stroke, a unit executes the first command when the corresponding first command is searched from the storage unit, a unit stores one-stroke-handwriting data and a second command as an instruction that corresponds to the one-stroke-handwriting data. The second command is different from the first command, and searches the storage unit for the second command corresponding to the one-stroke-handwriting data. There is a unit, when the corresponding second command is searched out from the storage unit, to execute the corresponding second command.
