Patent number: 7311444Abstract: A self-compensating hydrostatic (pressurized fluid film) linear bearing that maintains a fluid gap between a carriage and a rail when relative forces are applied. The geometric shape of the rail and mating carriage enable the bearing to have very high stiffness and load capacity without exessive detrimental carriage deformation. The carriages contain bearing grooves and lands which control and use fluid pressure to provide a very high degree of restoring force in response to changes in the fluid gap. The fluid emanating from the bearing gap is prevented from immediately leaking from the bearing carriage, and is instead routed back to the source from which it is pumped, thereby sealing the bearing carriage and simplifying the handling of the lubricating fluid. The hydrostatic bearing is particularly designed to be compact and to be bolt-for-bolt compatible with conventional linear bearings.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2006Date of Patent: December 25, 2007Assignee: Hardinge Inc.Inventors: Kevin Lee Wasson, Terrence Sheehan, Daniel Soroka

Patent number: 6517244Abstract: A linear motion guide unit is disclosed in which a lubricant-impregnated plate is mounted on any one side thereof with a backing plate and accommodated in a cartridge. The lubricant-impregnated plate is less subject to deformation or distortion, thus continuing to keep precisely the sliding relation with the raceway grooves on the track rail. Lubricating means are arranged on end caps of the slider, one on each end cap. The lubricating means is composed of a lubricant-impregnated plate of sintered resinous component, a backing plate high in stiffness attached to the lubricant-impregnated plate into a composite plate, and a cartridge accommodating therein the composite plate. The backing plate and cartridge, in combination, sustain squeezing load caused when the lubricating means is fastened to the slider. Thus, the lubricant-impregnated plate is free from the squeezing load, keeping precise sliding-contact relation with the raceway grooves on the track rail.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2000Date of Patent: February 11, 2003Assignee: Nippon Thompson Co., Ltd.Inventor: Toyohisa Ishihara

Patent number: 6475635Abstract: A copper alloy sliding material which can bring about superior resistance to fatigue as well as good anti-seizure property without containing any Pb. The copper alloy sliding material is made to have the structure in which both of the hard copper alloy phase and the soft copper alloy phase coexist in a mixture state. On the surface of the sliding material, the soft copper alloy phase comes to have a shape more concave than that of the hard copper alloy phase when receiving a load or when being in a sliding wear relation, in which concave portions is retained lubricant with the result that the anti-seizure property is enhanced. Further, since the soft phase and the hard phase are made of the same copper alloy, the wettability thereof becomes good, and Ni and etc. contained in the hard copper alloy phase are diffused into the soft copper alloy phase, so that the hardness of the boundary portion defined between the phases come to be gradually varied.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2000Date of Patent: November 5, 2002Inventors: Kenji Sakai, Naohisa Kawakami, Satoru Kurimoto, Takashi Inaba, Koichi Yamamoto, Takayuki Shibayama

Patent number: 6417143Abstract: Rolling bearings are proposed in which acoustic deterioration is suppressed which maintaining low dust, low torque and long life. Also, a grease for rolling bearings is proposed which is less likely to scatter under centrifugal force at high speed rotation, whereby preventing malfunction and noise of electronic information devices. A lubricating oil film of an ester-series oil having a dynamic viscosity at 40° C. of 35 mm2/s or over is formed on the friction surface of a rolling bearing. There is also provided a high-speed rolling bearing in which a lubricating grease having its worked penetration (JIS K2220) adjusted to 175-250 is retained therein. The grease is preferably prepared by adding a thickening agent containing 50 wt % or more of an aliphatic lithium salt 12-24 in carbon number to a base oil comprising 30 wt % or more of an ester oil having a dynamic viscosity at 40° C. of 10 mm2/s or over, and having its worked penetration (JIS K2220) adjusted to 175-250.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1999Date of Patent: July 9, 2002Assignee: NTN CorporationInventors: Hidenobu Mikami, Koya Ohira, Yoshinobu Akamatsu, Masaki Egami, Takashi Yasunishi
