  • Patent number: 5608971
Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus and a procedure for mounting a bearing wheel journal box (6) in a supporting structure. The supporting structure consists of a supporter side plate (4) having a seating (21) for the journal box (6). The seating has an opening delimited by corners (23,25). On the periphery of the journal box (6) there is an area (12) of reduced thickness, in the region of which the outer measure (S) of the journal box is smaller than the distance (W) between the corners (23,25) of the seating (21), while at other points the outer measure (D) of the journal box is larger than said distance (W). The journal box (6) is inserted into the seating (21) by holding the reduced-thickness portion (12) against the edge (23) of the opening and then turned into a desired position in the seating (21).

Abstract: A wheel bearing assembly can be assembled easily while maintaining a high reliability of connection between the outer ring and the hub. A hub is fitted into or onto a shaft portion of an outer ring of a homokinetic joint. Ball raceways are formed on the outer ring and the hub at their opposite ends. Balls are arranged in two rows so as to roll along the respective raceways. A bearing outer ring around the outer ring and the hub is supported by the balls. The shaft portion of the outer ring and the hub are press-fitted together with a predetermined interference. They are welded together at one end of their joint area.

  • Patent number: 5538349
Abstract: A bearing retention arrangement is disclosed for rotatably supporting a shaft (27) within a bearing opening (75) defined by a wall portion (35). The bearing retainer (83) is cylindrical and includes a pair of bayonets (89,91), and the bearing opening (75) defines recesses (77,79) Which conform generally to the bayonets. After the shaft (27) is in place, along with the bearing inner race (63) and bearing members (65), the outer race (67) is pressed into the retainer (83). The retainer is then passed through the bearing opening, with the bayonets passing through the recesses, until the bayonets (89,91) are disposed adjacent a forward surface (71) of the wall portion (35). The bearing retainer is then rotated until the bayonets are no longer rotationally aligned with the recesses, and finally, some form of antirotation device (95,99) is installed to prevent rotation of the bearing retainer from its assembled position (FIG. 3).

  • Patent number: 5527115
Abstract: A bearing mounting arrangement is provided in which a dimension stabilizing ring is molded into a motor housing bearing cap to limit critical bearing mounting variations in the, as molded, plastic bearing cap. The dimension stabilizing ring has an inner castellated cylindrical surface forming axially parallel grooves. These grooves are filled with plastic during molding which include portions that intrude into the bearing mounting bore so that a bearing may be force fit in this bore, deforming these plastic portions. This fixes the outer race of the bearing and prevents rotation of it relative to the bearing cap of the motor housing.

  • Patent number: 5507094
Abstract: A wheel spindle and bearing assembly for either a non-drive or driven wheel of a vehicle includes a unitary spindle of substantially constant diameter along the bearing section which includes dual raceways formed in the outer surface. Dual annular arrays of antifriction elements are seated in the raceways and are held captive by dual outer support rings, thus providing relative rotation between the spindle and the rings. The support rings are preferably mounted for telescoping movement relative to each other between a retracted position in the direction of the axis of the spindle to allow loading of the antifriction elements and an axially extended position for applying an opposed, axial preload force to the bearing assembly. In the axially extended position the rings form a gap between opposed faces and a split, annular keeper is positioned in the gap and held in compression to secure the entire assembly. The cross section area of the keeper is slightly larger than the gap to establish the preload force.

  • Patent number: 5505548
Abstract: A bearing retaining device is provided to maintain a shaft bearing within a housing. In one embodiment the device has a housing with a central bore into which is received a bearing. The bearing rests upon a bearing seat and is maintained in the housing by a retainer clip. The retainer clip is generally disc shaped with a number of spring tab members extending at an angle therefrom. When the retainer clip is rotated within the housing, the spring tab members are compressed by brush holders protruding into the housing and above the retainer seat. The spring tab members spring back to position after clearing the protrusions and dimpled ears formed in the retainer clip body frictionally engage the brush holders. The trailing edge of each spring tab member grips the side of each brush holder. The bearing is thereby locked into the housing and displacement and vibration thereof are eliminated.

  • Patent number: 5259677
Abstract: A bearing assembly is mounted on an eccentric sleeve having a bore for receiving a rotatable shaft. After the bearing assembly is mounted on the eccentric sleeve, a counterweight lobe is mounted on the eccentric sleeve, abutting the bearing assembly, to control dynamic balance of the bearing and sleeve assembly and to restrain movement of the bearing assembly along the axis of the bore. The eccentric sleeve and counterweight lobe are keyed together to prevent relative rotation therebetween.

  • Patent number: 5211489
Abstract: An outer race carrier (52) is constructed for receiving an outer race (26) of an antifriction bearing assembly (10). The carrier (52) in turn is slidably fitted in an opening (57) of a support wall to accommodate slight axial movements of a shaft (14). A plurality of longitudinal splines (54) on the carrier are disposed to be fitted into matching slots (56) in the opening (57). A deadband gap (60) is provided between sides of the splines and slots, with a radial gap (62) at ends of the splines and slots and a gap (59) between the splines and slots sized larger than the deadband gap. With this construction, operational distortions (slope) of the support wall are accommodated by the larger radial gaps (62, 59) while the deadband gaps (60) maintain a relatively high springrate of the housing. Additionally, side loads applied to the shaft are distributed between sides of the splines and slots, distributing such loads over a larger surface area than a race carrier (28) of the prior art.

  • Patent number: 5190381
Abstract: A release bearing assembly free from breakage and deformation, in which a force exerted from a release fork is not applied directly onto a sleeve. To this end, a cylindrical sleeve (7) guided by a guide (2) is not secured directly to a side plate (9) between an inner race (10) and the guide (2), as with a conventional structure. A cover (8) which has not hitherto been used, is used in the present invention. • Patent number: 5178472
Abstract: A bearing has an inner ring coaxial to and rotatable relative to an outer ring. A central bore of the inner ring accommodates a multi-sided shaft in at least two positions that are angularly offset relative to each other. Each position provides a different fit between the inner ring and the shaft. A preferred embodiment has a 12-pointed star-shaped bore defined by the superposition of two hexagons of slightly different scale, to accommodate a hexagonal shaft in either of two positions. The second position provides a tighter fit between the bearing and the shaft without requiring tighter manufacturing tolerances.

  • Patent number: 5176457
Abstract: To achieve a dependable axial fastening of a flat cylindrical outer surface of the outer ring of a double row angular anti-friction bearing inside the smooth internal surface of the bore of the external housing in which the outer ring is disposed, the races for the bearing rolling elements, and which are either balls or tapered rollers, are oriented so that the resultant lines of bearing force extend from the rolling elements, converge and intersect the outer surface of the outer ring. The resultant lines of force converge at or radially outward of the outer surface of the outer ring. A respective pair of interruptions, in the form of annular grooves around the outer surface of the outer ring, and having sharp transition edges with the outer surface of the outer ring, are defined at both axial sides of and near to the intersection of a resultant line of force with the outer surface of the outer ring.
