Abstract: Audio and or video data is structurally and persistently associated with auxiliary sensor data (e.g., relating to acceleration, orientation or tilt) through use of a unitary data object, such as a modified MPEG file or data stream. In this form, different rendering devices can employ co-conveyed sensor data to alter the audio or video content. Such use of the sensor data may be personalized to different users, e.g., through preference data. For example, accelerometer data can be associated with video data, allowing some users to view a shake-stabilized version of a video, and other users to view the video with such motion artifacts undisturbed. In like fashion, camera parameters, such as focal plane distance, can be co-conveyed with audio/video content—allowing the volume to be diminished (or not, again depending on user preference) when a camera captures audio/video from a distant subject. Some arrangements employ multiple image sensors and/or multiple audio sensors—each also collecting auxiliary data.

Abstract: Available storage media capacity for personal video recording increases continuously. metadata can be used to organize the recordings, search for content and access specific recordings. If metadata are embedded within the multimedia content itself, like DVB specific Service Information, which are multiplexed with the audio and video streams to form a MPEG-2 transport stream, a search based on this metadata would require an inefficient and time consuming search through all multimedia content stored. According to the invention metadata information is gathered, analyzed and processed to form metadata entities, which are amended by a reference to the content itself. A descriptor stream is formed from the resulting pairs of metadata entities and references to the content and is stored separately from the files comprising multimedia content. In this way, for data of an MPEG-2 transport stream the metadata can be accessed without a need to reparse the entire stream.

According to the invention, the composition contains a set of pages of choices, each enabling a user to carry out, by means of the navigation means, one of a plurality of choices for forming a combination of choices, the links between said pages being such that the work can only be read if the different choices carried out correspond to a pre-determined combination. In this way, the reading can only be carrier out, due to a simple authoring process, when a pre-determined code is introduced.

Abstract: A terminal device determines whether a clock is a secure clock or a self-running clock. If the clock is the self-running clock, the device stores a clocking time of the clock as a timestamp file in a memory card in recording content. In playing back the content, the device determines validity of a clocking time using the timestamp file to play back the content and also updates the stored time of the stored time as the timestamp file to a content playback start time. In contrast, if the clock is the secure clock, the device stores the timestamp file indicating a recording time of the content in the memory card only in recording the content and omits updating the stored time as the timestamp file in playing back the content.

The system for recording media content includes a segmenter (303) for splitting transport stream data and index data corresponding to the media content into discrete files at periodic intervals on access point boundaries. Each of the discrete files includes a respective transport segment and a respective index segment. The system also includes a segment storage device (304) for storing the discrete files. The segmenter (303) splits the transport stream data and the index data such that, for a program or recording session that includes multiple programs therein, the program or recording session and each of the multiple programs therein are recorded as separate programs.

Abstract: Provided are image processing methods and apparatuses for playing/recording a moving picture using caption search, which are capable of easily playing and recording the moving picture from a desired location by searching through captions of the moving picture. The method searches for a caption corresponding to a search key word among captions of the moving picture based on the search key word, displays a search-result list, and records at least one item included in the displayed search-result list according to a selected recording mode. Accordingly, a desired location of the moving picture can be played and/or recorded through caption search. Because the moving picture can be played from a predetermined location using caption search and a user's voice can be recorded and output, efficient foreign-language learning may be possible.

Abstract: A new approach is proposed that contemplates systems and methods to support video-aware screen capture and compression. More specifically, the video-aware approach first detects whether or when video content is being actively played back on a screen of a hosting device. If the video content is actively being rendered, the approach separates (segments) the screen content into static (non-video) content and video content, The approach then applies video-specific capture and compression methods to the video content of the screen and other suitable compression methods to the non-video content of the screen. The compressed static and video content of the screen are separately and independently transmitted across the network to remote computing devices and are then decompressed and processed to reconstruct screen of its original content for display at the screens of the remote computing devices.
