Patent number: 5088220Abstract: A pop-out slide and a method of fabricating the same from a single continuous web of material. The method comprises cutting a web of material to define a through slot and a cutout, such that the cutout in turn defines a pop-out member superimposable with and shaped and alignable for selective extension through the slot, slitting the web into two ribbons, one ribbon including the slot and the other including the cutout and the pop-out member. The method proceeds by stacking the ribbons in a position for aligning the pop-out member with the slot, applying a seam of glue adjacent the slot and marrying the ribbon carrying the pop-out member with the ribbon carrying the slot. Thereafter, the method proceeds by folding over the slot-carrying ribbon so as to fully enclose the ribbon carrying the pop-out member and such that the seam of glue extends through the cutout defining the pop-out member to adhesively secure with a facing surface of the slot-carrying ribbon to the other side thereof.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 1990Date of Patent: February 18, 1992Assignee: The Lehigh Press, Inc.Inventor: Susan Hibsch

Patent number: 4949488Abstract: A display apparatus comprises a front stack of superimposed sheets which have cut lines and openings which form horizontally extending strips on the sheets. These strips are interleaved with similarly formed strips in a rear stack of sheets. In the interleaved position, upper portions of the front most sheets in the front and rear stacks are visible and are advantageously pictureless. To display a picture, one of the sheets in each of the front and rear stacks is lifted to expose their upper portions which carry segments of the same picture.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 1988Date of Patent: August 21, 1990Inventor: Jon Holk

Patent number: 4841674Abstract: A portable impact-resistant athletic numerical indicator display produces highly visible numerals for observation by athletic participants and spectators. The display is provided with a series of shiftable component numeral panels which are connected to a selector lever by a coupling device including a stationary, slotted bar and yoke. The desired numeral to be displayed is presented behind a transparent face in the body by shifting the corresponding selector lever from a first position to a second position to compose the numeral to be displayed from the component panels. The display is conventionally used in contact sports such as football and is constructed to withstand impact with a player or the ground. The display is preferably mounted on a pole and is provided with a layer of padding to protect the playes from injury.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1987Date of Patent: June 27, 1989Assignee: Pro Down, Inc.Inventor: Robert L. Patent number: 4837957Abstract: A numerical display especially for use as a down marker in football games. The numbers which are displayed are painted on sets of slats which slide up and down by operation of finger levers connected to the slats by a special linkage. The slats slide behind other slats in a concealed position and are visible in an exposed position through transparent windows of a padded housing which encloses the operating components. A frictional detent retains the levers in place to prevent inadvertent slipping of the number which is displayed.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 1987Date of Patent: June 13, 1989Assignee: Dial-A-Down, Inc.Inventor: James J. Patent number: 4809453Abstract: This invention relates to a folding card that displays one picture when closed and another picture when opened, comprising three hinged panels which form a front cover, a rear cover and an inside panel. Positioned partially in upper and lower channels formed by flanges hinged to the inside cover are a stationary picture unit and a movable picture unit. The picture units are each made of two subunits formed with slots and strips which are fitted together with the strips partially overlapping. The two picture units are mated together, and an extension of the moving picture unit is attached to the front cover. When the assembled picture card is in a closed position, the strips of the movable unit are displayed; when opened, the extension pulls the movable picture unit to the left causing its strips to smoothly slide behind the now displayed strips of the stationary unit as a result of the overlapping construction.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 1987Date of Patent: March 7, 1989Assignee: Structural Graphics, Inc.Inventor: Elizabeth J. Patent number: 4783923Abstract: A sign has slat panels mounted for sliding laterally on one side of a base plate and bars having cam followers mounted on the other side. Each bar has a pin, some of which project through slats in the bars and all of which project through slots in the base plate to terminate in a hole in the panels, respectively for driving the panels laterally in response to sequential lateral shifting of the bars. A first driven gear has axially extending cam pins of increasingly greater lengths to engage successive followers and shift the bars and panels to present a series of pictures. A second commonly driven gear has one cam pin which orbits in the opposite direction for periodically engaging all followers simultaneously and driving said bars back to initial position to start a new display cycle.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1987Date of Patent: November 15, 1988Assignee: Everbrite Electric Signs, Inc.Inventors: Harold M. Patent number: 4759141Abstract: A stationary display member is mounted on a display apparatus and provided with a plurality of slots which communicate between front and rear faces of the stationary display member and which are disposed in parallel to and equally spaced a given interval from each other. A movable display member is mounted on the rear face of the stationary display member and comprised of a plurality of segments successively disposed on one another in a partially overlapped relation. Each segment has a width more than twice the slot interval such that about a half portion thereof is covered by the adjacent segment. The uncovered remaining segment portions are slidably inserted into the respective ones of the slots. A linear motor drives the movable display member to project the uncovered segment portions from the slots to change display.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1986Date of Patent: July 26, 1988Inventor: Youhitirou Aoyagi

Patent number: 4731944Abstract: Image bearing panels with interleaved strips are slidably carried by a sign base. A motor drives a crank and reciprocating arm with the arm end sequentially engageable with an abutment on each panel to shift the panel and expose the panel image. An obstruction is positionable at the completion of the last panel shifted which causes the arm to move out of its reciprocating path to engage and actuate linkage acting on the panels to collectively reposition the panels preparatory to the start of a viewing sequence.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 1986Date of Patent: March 22, 1988Inventor: James J.
