The system self-assembles from a flexible linear chain or 2-dimensional grid pattern into a rigid 3-dimensional structure, simply by adding an external energy source. The mechanism and placement of each unit provides the sequence of fold angles that is activated by external energy. When the system is assembled, unit-by-unit, or pre-manufactured as a single linked strand, the user is actually “programming” the folding sequence, much like our body's protein strands, that take external energy and fold in a 3-dimensional structure. This demonstrates that structures can be built from 1-dimensional or 2-dimensional flexible geometry and self-assemble into 3-dimensional rigid geometry without manual assembly or construction, simply through an external means of energy.

    Abstract: A pivot knuckle joint and a tent using the same are provided. The pivot knuckle joint includes a male joint and a female joint. A junction portion for being joined with a support tube is disposed at one end of the male joint and a pivot plate is disposed at the other end of the male joint. A shaft hole is opened on the pivot plate. A junction portion for being joined with a support tube is disposed at one end of the female joint and a first shaft disk and a second shaft disk are disposed at the other end of the female joint. A shaft hole is opened on the first and second shaft disks respectively. An accommodation space is formed at an inner side of the first and second shaft disks. When the pivot plate of the male joint is inserted into the accommodation space, a shaft rod penetrates through shaft holes of the male and female joints, so as to control a positioning status of the male and female joints, thereby unfolding or folding the tent rapidly.

    Abstract: In a semiconductor mechanical structure, hinges may not be broken even when a mechanical shock is applied from outside, and thus, crashworthy is enhanced. A light scanning mirror includes a moving plate, a twin hinges constituting an axis of swing motion of the moving plate wherein an end of each hinge is connected to both ends of the moving plate, a stationary frame which is disposed to surround peripheries of the moving plate and supports another end of each of the twin hinges, and stoppers formed on the stationary frame. When the moving plate displaces in a lateral direction, the stopper contacts a side end portion of a recess of the moving plate, so that the displacement of the moving plate in the lateral direction is restrained.
