  • Patent number: 4606671
Abstract: The invention relates to a coupling for making a connection secured against relative rotational and axial displacement between a hub member and a shaft member. The shaft and hub members have engaging keys and grooves at the internal and external circumferences thereof. The hub member has a circumferential groove undercutting the keys thereof and an insert member having the same key and groove configuration as the shaft member is disposed therein. The insert member is circumferentially offset relative to the hub member so that the respective keys and grooves thereof are out of alignment. The keys of the insert and hub members are then in axially abutting engagement with the insert member serving as an anchor so that a screw connection between the shaft and the insert members allows the shaft and hub members to be drawn towards each other to form a firm and secure connection.

  • Patent number: 4571788
Abstract: An apparatus for use in a fluid medium which activates at a deeper depth and then releases at a lesser depth. A rod depresses a spring in a housing. The rod is prevented from being ejected from the housing by a ball bearing which engages between openings in the rod and the housing. When in use, the pressure exerted by the fluid medium forces the rod deeper into the housing. When the first depth is reached the ball bearing disengages from the rod and the device is activated. As the activated apparatus rises, the pressure on the rod decreases and the rod moves out of the housing. When the deployment depth is attained the housing floods and the rod is ejected.

  • Patent number: 4520546
Abstract: The invention pertains to a ball joint assembly which includes a ball stud received in a swivel socket of a supporting body. Some of such assemblies are classed as quick disconnects, meaning that the ball stud may be conveniently assembled and disassembled as desired. In another class, the bodies are substantially cylindrical with the sockets forming a pair of diametrically opposed feather edges. In drilling the sockets, it is not uncommon for a burr to be formed about the perimeter, and for this burr to be bent inwardly thereby obstructing the free insertion of the ball stud into the socket. Also it is not uncommon for the feather edges to be bent inwardly resulting in the same problem. By counterboring the socket, the burr is removed and the feather edges are flattened which not only solves the obstruction problem but may also provide other advantages.

  • Patent number: 4321770
Abstract: An inexpensive and reliable security bar that may be easily and quickly assembled between structural supports of a guarded area to prevent entry into the area. The present security bar comprises first and second elongated bar members, one end of each of which is respectively installed into a structural support. The security bar members are substantially aligned with one another across the entrance to the guarded area, so that a small gap is formed between the second ends thereof. A hollow coupling sleeve is positioned over the gap, and a dowel or pin is inserted through a hole in the sleeve and into the gap between the bar members. Accordingly, when in the assembled relationship, the sleeve and pin cooperate to inhibit the lateral and angular displacement of the bar members, whereby to prevent removal of the security bar from the guarded area after installation between the structural supports thereof.
