    Abstract: Write head coils for magnetic disk systems are commonly formed through electroplating onto a seed layer in the presence of a photoresist mask. It is then necessary to remove the seed layer everywhere except under the coil itself. The present invention achieves this through etching in a solution of ammonium persulfate to which has been added the complexing agent 1,4,8,11 tetraazundecane. This suppresses the reduction of Cu++ to Cu, thereby increasing the dissolution rate of copper while decreasing that of nickel-iron. Two ways of implementing this are described—adding the complexing agent directly to the ammonium persulfate and introducing the 1,4,8,11 tetraazundecane through a dipping process that precedes conventional etching in the ammonium persulfate.

    Abstract: A clamping apparatus for fixing and non-rotatably clamping threaded shafts, particularly threaded shafts used as electrodes for eroding threads, comprises a hollow cylindrical shaft with a clamping sleeve member located at its front end. The clamping sleeve member has a central bore and a rectangular aperture opening into that central bore. A rectangular clamping member is slidably received in the aperture and comprises at its front surface, facing the central bore, a number of thread convolutions matching the thread convolutions of the shaft to be clamped. For moving the clamping element towards a threaded shaft received in the central bore, a rotating collar is provided, located around the outside of the clamping sleeve member, and having a an inner circular surface with a diametrically gradually enlarging recessed portion into which the clamping element protrudes.

    Abstract: A tapered polygon coupling for an impeller and pinion. The pinion has a tapered bore having a polygonal cross-section. The impeller includes a corresponding tapered polygon plug configured to be placed in the bore of the pinion. A fastener is provided for securing the impeller to the pinion. The fastener passes through a passage in the plug of the impeller. The plug of the impeller is split so that when the fastener is inserted into the passage the plug expands to contact the bore and create an interference fit between the pinion and the impeller.

    Abstract: A holding connector system is provided for connecting a microdevice feeder to an assembly line table having a plurality of alignment pins. A connector body having a slot provided therein engages one of the plurality of alignment pins and a table recess in the connector body holds it to the assembly line table. A threaded knob secures the connector body to the assembly line table. The microdevice feeder is provided with an alignment plate, which has fingers engaging the alignment pins to cause the microdevice feeder to be properly aligned with the assembly line table. A clamping plate on the microdevice feeder engages a portion of the connector body, which holds down the microdevice feeder.

    Abstract: A joint connects one end of a tube to the side of a hollow member. It employs a pair of wedge elements that have sloping sides. A threaded fastener passes freely through a proximal wedge and then is threaded through a distal wedge. The fastener first passes through a hole in the side of the member and the wedges are inserted into the end of the tube. Tightening the fastener draws the wedges toward the member and causes the wedges to cooperate with one another to grip the inner surfaces of the tube to create a strong joint stable in many directions.
