Publication number: 20140072376Abstract: The invention relates to a milling tool for gear milling. The tool body is equipped with tangentially mounted milling inserts having four cutting edges and two holes, only one of which is utilized for a fixing screw in two of totally four index positions. By locating a screw hole in the seat of the milling insert at a distance from the radial support surface of the seat that is greater than the distance between an individual hole and a distal end of the milling insert, a clamping force is provided by means of the inherent elasticity of the fixing screw. In such a way, the milling insert is pressed against the radial support surface. By means of a transversal eccentricity, the milling insert is also pressed against a tangential support surface in the seat. By means of this construction, the two holes in differently long milling inserts can be formed with equally large distances from distal ends. Thereby, one and the same tool body can be equipped with differently long milling inserts.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 5, 2013Publication date: March 13, 2014Applicant: SANDVIK INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ABInventor: Sture SJOO

Publication number: 20130279996Abstract: An indexable cutting insert for chip removing machining includes a plurality of cutting tips that protrude from a central core. Each of the individual tips include a cutting edge, which is formed in a transition between an upper side serving as chip surface and a clearance surface, which extends between the upper side and an under side. The cutting insert has six equally long cutting tips that are located in pairs along the co-ordinate axes of a three-dimensional, orthogonal system of co-ordinates, the origin of which is situated in the core. By arranging the cutting tips in this way, the inactive cutting tips, which are situated behind an active cutting tip, can be contained within a limited volume and therefore be installed in tool basic bodies having tapering parts. A tool equipped with the cutting insert according to the invention, as well as, a tool basic body is disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 23, 2013Publication date: October 24, 2013Applicant: SANDVIK INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ABInventor: Mojgan MOHSENI

Publication number: 20130272807Abstract: A cutting tool for machining a workpiece. The cutting tool comprises a holder and at least two cutting inserts which are separated from each other by a spacer element. The cutting tool may be used to produce two or more bevels (and/or joints and/or grooves) at precisely defined spacings in only one operation. Through the use of spacer elements of different lengths, it is possible to produce bevels at different spacings. The spacer element preferably has an interface which comprises only radial contact surfaces, which run parallel to a longitudinal axis of the spacer element, and a substantially flat axial contact surface, which runs transverse to the longitudinal axis. The length of the spacer element can therefore be shortened on the rear side of the spacer element without destroying said interface.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 7, 2013Publication date: October 17, 2013Inventors: MATTHIAS LUIK, MATTHIAS OETTLE

Publication number: 20130266392Abstract: An indexable hexahedral cutting insert has opposing top and bottom abutting faces, opposing rake faces connecting to opposing side faces, and a central hole passing through the abutting faces. Each rake face is wider in the top-to-bottom direction at a different one of the side faces. Arcuate corner portions with one-directional curvature are formed along intersecting portions between the abutting faces and the side faces. Each abutting face has first and second wedge-shaped inclined planes adjoining and inclining toward corresponding first and second rake faces. Each inclined plane has a base side at a cutting edge formed at the border with one of the rake faces, and a width which gradually increases from one corner portion to the opposite corner portion along the abutting face. Each corner portion has an associated inclined arcuate surface adjacent to the wide end of the wedge-shaped inclined planes.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 18, 2013Publication date: October 10, 2013Inventor: Young Ho LEE

Patent number: 8550754Abstract: A single-sided tangential cutting insert has a peripheral side surface with N identical major sides. The cutting insert has 360°/N rotational symmetry about an insert axis passing through top and bottom surfaces of the insert, where N is an integer greater than 2 and each major side is located between and merges with an adjacent major side. A cutting edge is formed at the intersection of a relief surface and a rake surface. The rake surface is located in the peripheral side surface and extends in an inward direction of the cutting insert from its associated cutting edge to a side surface of the associated major side. At least a portion of the relief surface is located in the top surface.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2011Date of Patent: October 8, 2013Assignee: Iscar, Ltd.Inventor: Gil Hecht

Publication number: 20130251466Abstract: An indexable milling insert comprising a polygonal shaped body having an upper surface, a lower surface and side surfaces. The upper surface includes a peripheral land intersecting the side surfaces has a predetermined width (a) sloping downward at a predetermined angle (X). A support-face plateaux extending from an end of the peripheral land up to a chip shaping surface has a predetermined angle. Publication number: 20130251464Abstract: A triangular cutting insert has first and second surfaces, a midplane, a peripheral surface, with an insert center axis. The peripheral surface has alternating relief flanks and corners. A major cutting edge formed between each relief flank and the first and second surfaces, connects at a corner to a wiper edge included in a bounding plane of the insert. The wiper edge further connects to a transitional slope directed toward the midplane and an adjacent major cutting edge. Viewed along the insert center axis, an insert footprint is symmetrical to each corner bisector, and each major cutting edge is perpendicular to the associated secondary slope. Viewed perpendicular to the bisector, the relief flank is in a peripheral plane, and the transitional slope is between the peripheral plane and the insert center axis. Viewed along the corner bisector, each visible major cutting edge forms a first angle with the bounding plane.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 22, 2012Publication date: September 26, 2013Applicant: Iscar, Ltd.Inventor: Gil Hecht

Publication number: 20130236255Abstract: An indexable cutting insert has opposing rhombus-shaped upper and lower surfaces and a peripheral side surface therebetween with alternating obtuse and acute corner surfaces. A nose cutting edge is formed at the intersection of the upper surface with each of the two acute corner surfaces. The lower surface includes a base surface from which a central boss and exactly two engagement ridges protrude. Each engagement ridge extends from the central boss to intersect with its respective acute corner surface, and the base surface is divided into two base sub-surfaces. The insert may be clamped against a seating surface of a tool holder pocket solely by the engagement ridge located closest to the operative nose cutting edge making contact with a corresponding single engagement groove, and the two base sub-surfaces making contact with two coplanar raised support surfaces.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 6, 2012Publication date: September 12, 2013Applicant: Iscar, Ltd.Inventor: Gil Hecht
