  • Patent number: 7261499
Abstract: An adjustable drill microstop apparatus is employed with a drill and a drill bit to limit the depth of a hole drilled into an object surface by the drill bit. The apparatus has a housing and a nose piece that is mounted for reciprocating axial movement in accordance with a plurality of user selectable depths of cut. The nose piece projects from one end of the housing and is positioned adjacent the object surface to receive the drilled hole. The nose piece has an opening into which the drill bit is inserted, and an engagement surface that engages with the object surface during the drilling operation. During the drilling operation, the drill pushes the nose piece into the housing as the drill bit performs the drilling operation. A pre-selected distance that the nose piece reciprocates in the housing limits the depth of the hole drilled by the drill bit into the object surface.

  • Patent number: 7226253
Abstract: The drilling of a hole through at least two structural components in alignment with a predrilled hole or marked location in one of the structural components is facilitated by a clamping mechanism that has a bail with two legs. One leg carries a first clamping section with a guide channel for a centering pin or a drill bit. When the centering pin has served its purpose it is removed from the guide channel which then guides the drill bit. The other leg carries a second clamping section opposite the first clamping section. The second clamping section has a pressure bushing drivable by a clamping drive for clamping the second structural component against the first structural component for drilling a hole through all structural components including through a predrilled hole or for simultaneously drilling all structural components at the marked location. The pressure bushing has a hollow free end forming a cavity.

  • Patent number: 7220088
Abstract: A toolhead for use on a multi-axis machine tool consists of a support assembly equipped with a pivoting spindle designed to accept a removable tool-holder, and centered on a machining axis about which a tool clamped to the tool-holder can be driven in rotation. Also forming part of the toolhead is a depth stop affording an active surface substantially transverse to the machining axis and positionable against a surface of a workpiece. The depth stop is mounted to the support assembly and capable of movement along the machining axis between a first position, distanced from the spindle, and a second position of proximity to the spindle. Transducers incorporated into the toolhead are able to sense the position of the active surface relative to the support assembly, and thus used to control the depth to which the workpiece is penetrated by the tool.

Abstract: A well bore fluid recovery system and method for recovering a column of well bore fluid within a stand of casing before cutting the casing. The recovery system relates to a system for preventing fluids from being spilled when casing is being finished for a well bore. After being run the casing must be cut and finished at an appropriate level to install rig equipment such as blow out preventers along with other equipment. However, because of earlier operations, the entire length of casing is typically filled with drilling fluid. Depending on conditions, the length of casing which is to be cut and removed may therefore over a 100-foot (27.4 meter) column of drilling fluid therein. A brake assembly atop the plate includes a plurality of brake pads for contact with the interior of the core drill bit. The retainer is configured to fit within the core drill bit and either rotate with the core drill bit or be stationary relative thereto. Upon drilling, the plate and separated core fall to the floor below. This movement is translated to the brake assembly by the linkage such that the brake pads engage the core drill bit at a sufficient pressure allowing for the separated core to be retained within the core drill bit.

Abstract: A debris catching device for abrasion or cutting tools, such as hole saw apparatuses, includes a generally dome-shaped body constructed of a resiliently flexible material. Preferably, the material is non-marking and transparent or translucent. A lip extends from an upper rim of the body, which defines an open-ended cavity which is sized so as to substantially surround an abrasion or cutting tool, such as a hole saw. An aperture formed through the body generally opposite the opening of the cavity is configured to receive a pertinent member of the tool. As a hole is cut through the working surface with a hole saw, for example, debris is captured within the cavity of the body.
