Interrelated With Cutter Infeed Patents (Class 409/270)
  • Patent number: 8251620
Abstract: A system and method for forming a feature on an inner surface of a gear includes a sensor for sensing the position of a feature on the gear, a cutting station having a cutting tool for forming the feature on the inner surface of the gear, and a controller. The controller is operable to determine an amount of rotation necessary to rotate either the gear or the cutting tool such that the feature on the inner surface of the gear is formed at a desired orientation relative to the feature on the outer surface of the gear.

  • Patent number: 6648568
Abstract: A linear blind broaching machine (10) includes a base (22), a broaching ram assembly (24), a linear tool slide (26) supported on the base by linear antifriction bearings (90) and a support block (92) mounted between the base and the linear tool slide below a broaching ram of the broaching ram assembly to provide support to the linear tool slide during blind broaching. The linear tool slide has an elongated construction including an elongated positioning block (114) against which blind broaches are laterally positioned, and an electric servomotor (108) drives the linear tool slide (26) to provide indexing thereof between broaching movements of the broaching ram. A roller screw drive (54) driven by an electric servomotor (56) drives a broaching ram (44) supported by linear antifriction bearings 46.

  • Publication number: 20030118418
Abstract: A broaching machine is of a work-moving type in which a broach is rotatively driven while a work held on a ram is pushed up against the broach to perform broaching of the work. The broach is driven at the front end shank and the rear end shank in synchronism with each other under the control of an NC controller. The work and the ram are adapted to be moved vertically (in a Y-axis direction). This construction frees the broach from any torsion and improves a machining accuracy.
