Rectilinearly Reciprocating Cutter Patents (Class 409/46)
  • Patent number: 9108257
Abstract: The vertical movement cycle and trajectory inclination angle of a cutter are switched so that when a main spindle is moving downward, a head is moved to position the cutter at a machining location, and the cutter is lowered rectilinearly; that when the main spindle is moving upward, the head is moved to position the cutter at a withdrawal location; that, when an external gear is to be generated by cutting, relieving means for rectilinearly raising the cutter cause the machining location to be positioned on one radial side of the cutter and move the cutter downward parallel to the axis of a workpiece; and that when an internal gear is to be generated by cutting, said relieving means cause the machining location to be positioned on the other radial side of the cutter and move the cutter downward parallel to the axis of the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 8985917
Abstract: A cutting machine for gear shaping or the like is provided. The cutting machine includes a gear shaping head. The gear shaping head has a ram that is guided by and reciprocates along a linear guide mounted between a saddle of the gear shaping head and the ram. At least one linear motor reciprocates the ram along a stroke axis relative to the saddle. The ram also carries a rotary drive and a spindle that reciprocate in unison with the ram. The rotary drive directly drives the spindle to journal the spindle through incremental angular positions during gear shaping.

  • Patent number: 6167929
Abstract: A method and apparatus for profiling a log. In a profiler having first and second knives disposed on a rotating disc, a mounting member is adapted to mountably receive both the first and second knives so that each blade has a point on its cutting edge that is proximate a point that is on the cutting edge of the other knives. Preferably, the points are end most points and abut one another.

  • Patent number: 4264248
Abstract: Controllable tooling is mounted in a carrier with parallel spring elements positioned at right angles to an intended path of adjustment for the tooling so that precisely controlled adjustments can be applied to the tooling while it is performing a cutting operation on a workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4244668
Abstract: An apparatus for forming internal gear teeth at large workpieces at a gear shaper or gear shaping machine comprising a machine bed at which there are arranged a workpiece table for chucking a workpiece and an upright or stand. The workpiece table and the stand are rotatable, relative to one another, about the workpiece axis and radially feedable relative thereto. The stand has guide means along which there can be moved to-and-fro a plunger by means of a plunger drive. An auxiliary stand is rotatably and radially displaceable about the workpiece axis upon a bearing rim which is coaxially attached at the workpiece. The auxiliary stand has a guide arrangement along which there can be moved to-and-fro, in the tooth lengthwise direction of the internal teeth, an auxiliary plunger driven by the plunger by means of a bridge arrangement.
