  • Patent number: 5088869
Abstract: A thread rolling screw has a continuous helical set of threads formed on a body. The threads have a tip section, an intermediate section, and a final section. In the tip and intermediate sections, the diameters of the crests progressively increase. In the intermediate section, relieved areas are spaced apart around the crests of the threads. In the final section, the threads are continuous and circular and of constant diameter. The crest of the last intermediate thread is the same diameter as the crests of the final thread section.

  • Patent number: 5071301
Abstract: A stud for securing a cylinder liner to a head has a modified thread form engaging a threaded hole in the stud with an interference fit. The thread is rolled and all threads have the same pitch diameter except the endmost thread. Three relief channels are formed in the threads and extend axially from the stud end through several threads while some full threads remain to engage the hole. The relief channels decrease hoop stress in the threaded hole and allow debris developed during installation to escape from the thread interface to prevent entrapment therein.

  • Patent number: 5000639
Abstract: A self-tapping and threading bolt to replace bolts when the bolt holes have damaged or stripped threads. The self-tapping bolt has a self-tapping tapered end which is small enough to fit in the bolt hole into which it is inserted. It has two slots cut into the end which provides both channels for disposal of chips and to define the cutting edge of the self-tapping portion. The cutting edge of the self-tapping portion is decreased in radius behind the cutting edge to provide a relief so that the bolt can be turned with less torque into the damaged bolt hole.

  • Patent number: 4900208
Abstract: A fastener for insulated roofing comprises a non-metallic, screw-threaded shank, having a penetrating point at one end of the shank and a transverse plate carried at the other end of the shank. The shank and transverse plate are preferably integrally method out of a polyetherimide resin formulation which has a tensile strength of at least 15,000 psi. as tested by ASTM D638. Such a fastener has a great advantage in terms of cost and lack of corrodability, while still exhibiting the required strength. Also, a universal driver socket is provided.

  • Patent number: 4770560
Abstract: A connector for cross-sectionally square, rectangular, hexagonal or other shaped tubes, including a solid cube-shaped block body having tapered arm members extending outwardly from its square sides; each arm having a spiral pipe screw thread therearound intercepted by elongated flutes so that the arm is cross-sectionally Greek cross-shaped with outwardly rib portions between the flutes, so as to be slidably fitted into a square or rectangular tube end or into the end of a hexagonal or other shaped tube with a square insert with the ribs being received in the corners of the square or rectangular tube or of the square insert whereby subsequent rotation of the tube causes the screw thread on the outer side of the ribs to cut an engaging thread on an inner side of the tube, or on the inner side of the square insert.

  • Patent number: 4730966
Abstract: An expansion bolt assembly includes an anchor bolt with a conically shaped expansion head at one end arranged to be drawn into an expansion sleeve. At the opposite end, the anchor bolt forms a plurality of axially extending projections protruding radially outwardly from the anchor bolt shank. The axially extending projections are spaced circumferentially apart around the anchor bolt and the outer surface of the projections are threaded to receive a nut. The anchor bolt can be produced in an extrusion process with great material economy.

  • Patent number: 4712957
Abstract: A fastener assembly in which a fastener is adhesively secured within a borehole. A fastener having a shank with longitudinal channels is inserted within a borehole. A fluent adhesive is forced along the longitudinal channels of the fastener to occupy the space within the bore adjacent to the fastener. The adhesive is permitted to harden in situ so as to provide a strong chemo-mechanical bond.

  • Patent number: 4673323
Abstract: A self-tapping and/or self-carving stud having two or more right angle elongate grooves of alternate length in the tapered thread or projecting helical ribs. The right angled grooves enable tapping debris to accumulate in the grooves to help lock the threads for fastening the stud, particularly in irregular holes. The alternate length of the grooves helps make this stud design unbreakable, thus unbeatable for special situations especially in exhaust manifold applications.

  • Patent number: 4655661
Abstract: A self-cutting fast construction screw for the fastening of fiber plates to a metal substructure carries on the screw shaft at least one turn of a thread. The screw core passes into a conical drill point. On the conical drill point two cutting edges are arranged in a symmetrical layout, said cutting edges cutting to a diameter located between the diameter of the screw core and the diameter of the outer thread tip. Upon impact on the metal substructure, the two cutting edges break off.

  • Patent number: 4544312
Abstract: A threaded pin has flutes along the threads formed by roll-forming threads over a preformed section having either flat sides or dished sides. The major diameter of the threads lies along ridge crests bordering the flutes, and the minor diameter of the threads lies at the base of the flutes. The threads extend along the major diameter in each of the ridge crests for a distance on an order of magnitude of the distance across the mouth of each flute. The preformed section is formed by extrusion. The flutes provide space for material from a threaded collar forced into them to provide a thread lock.

  • Patent number: 4502598
Abstract: A holder for removably receiving a plurality of magnetic memory disks and for holding the disks in a vertical stack. The holder includes a base having a center post secured thereto and extending upwardly therefrom. The post is adapted to receive the magnetic disks thereon with the disks being arranged on the posts in generally parallel, horizontal planes and separated from each other by ring-like spacers. A nut is removably mounted on the post for locking the disks in place. The nut has a number of spaced projections on its inner periphery for engagement with spaced, circumferentially extending screw thread segments on the outer surface of the post. The segments are spaced from each other to present recesses for receiving the projections on the nut when the nut is first placed on and moved axially along the post until the nut rests on the uppermost spacer. By rotating the nut through a finite angle, such as 30.degree. to 95.degree.

  • Patent number: 4449874
Abstract: A threaded fastener capable of recutting damaged screw threads during installation in a threaded opening has an axial opening in its leading end intersecting a transverse opening whose ends extend through the screw threads of the fastener. The fastener is provided in its periphery at least in one location thereon with a longtiudinal recess of greater depth than the screw threads which intersects the transverse opening at right angles thereto and extends longitudinally of the fastener away from one side of the transverse opening which is remote from the axial opening. A thread cutting surface is produced by the recess and thread cuttings pass therefrom into the transverse and axial openings during installation of the fastener.

  • Patent number: 4326607
Abstract: An anti-rusting structure of an adjust mechanism in a drum brake, which mechanism functions to compensate stroke increasing of the brake system due to wearing of the brake shoes, for preventing production of rust between an adjust bolt and an adjust nut by means of a skillful water proof device by facilitating the greasing between the two members of the adjust mechanism. In a portion of the adjust bolt where external thread (male screw) is formed, at least one lengthwise groove is axially formed, the length of which groove is determined such that the adjust bolt may not be pushed out by compressed air between the two members, even when the adjust bolt is threaded into the adjust nut by a predetermined amount of length, with sufficient grease being spread between the two members.
