  • Patent number: 8678731
Abstract: A nut (30) includes a main portion (30A) formed with a bolt insertion hole (31), into which a bolt is insertable, and a wedge portion (30B) projecting from the main portion (30A) in a radially outward direction of the bolt insertion hole (31) and having a width smaller than that of the main portion (30A). Thus, parts (27B) extending lateral to the wedge portion (30B) in parallel with a projecting direction of the wedge portion (30B) can be made thicker than parts (27A) extending lateral to the main portion (30A). Therefore, the parts (27B) that resist an accompanying rotation of the nut (30) can be thickened without enlarging a housing (20), with the result that strength against the accompanying rotation of the nut (30) can be ensured.

Abstract: A multifunction wheel nut cap is used on motor vehicle to indicate loosening and rotation of a lug nut. On large trucks on which the lug nuts have to be frequently torqued to prevent the lug nut from loosening and turning until it drops from the wheel bolt, the indication of rotation and limiting of the rotation prevents the lug nut loss and requires tightening only when there is an indication that the lug has become loose. The Wheel cap nut device gives a visual warning when a nut has become loose. It also prevents water and contaminants from penetrating the lug nut and bolt threads.

  • Patent number: 7674080
Abstract: The present invention provides a retaining washer for retaining threaded fasteners, such as bolts, that have been inadvertently loosened, in use. The invention finds particular application in gas turbine engines and in aircraft in general where wire locking of threaded fasteners has traditionally been employed. The washer (10) comprises a base member (14) having a plurality of apertures (18) each for receiving the shank of a respective bolt (20) or stud part of a threaded fastener, and engagement means (16) extending from the base member for engagement with respective bolt head or nut parts of the fasteners to retain the said head or nut parts with respect to the washer in the event of inadvertent loosening. The said engagement means is deformable between an open configuration which enables access to the bolt head or nut parts of the fasteners for tightening and/or removal thereof and a closed configuration in which the bolt head or nut part are captively retained with the washer.

Abstract: A threaded insert for use in a composite and/or honey-comb matrix has a nut member disposed within a plastic housing. The threads of the nut member have a free running thread section and a thread lock section. When a fastener is made up into the nut member, a surface on the nut member engages an opposite-facing surface on the plastic housing, thereby reversing the nut loading from tensile loading to compression loading. A thermoplastic embodiment of the nut member may be fabricated to meet the specifications of aircraft manufacturers required for the SL2334 insert, including thread reusability, tensile loading (pullout load), shear, and interchangeability with the metal component currently in use.

Abstract: A bolt has a pointed end with cutting edges. The cutting edges may have knurls (grooves) or ridges, and may have a spiral arrangement. The bolt may have a convex end, such as a cone end or a curved end. A plurality of bolts may be used as part of a reinforcing bar splice that also includes a sleeve. The bolts engage threaded holes of the sleeves. As the bolts are tightened, they bore into the receiving bar ends, securing the bar ends within the sleeve. Cutting edges on the bolts aid in boring the ends of the bolts into the reinforcing bar ends. Using cutting edges on the bolt ends allows deeper penetration of the bolts into the reinforcing bar ends, without increasing the amount of torque used.

  • Patent number: 6409224
Abstract: A fastening means (7) is proposed for bushings of all types on housings (1), in particular plastic housings, on which at least two bushings (2a, 2b) are formed on in the form of short, hollow-cylindrical projections, which permit accesses into the housing interior and on which various lines, such as supply lines and/or signal lines and the like for an item of equipment located in the housing (1), are fastened by means of adapters (5a, 5b) fastened there. The fastening means (7) comprises a sheet-like base plate (8) in which openings are provided, the inner surfaces of which are shaped in such a way that the base plate (8) fits on all the adapters (5a, 5b) and in this way connects them to one another and braces them against one another. This achieves the effect that, when screwing in and tightening cable connections or connections of other lines into the adapters (5), overstressing of the connection of the adapters (5a, 5b) to the housing (1) is avoided.

  • Publication number: 20020076300
Abstract: A nut plate is formed from a generally U-shaped clip having first and second elongated legs and a connecting leg extending therebetween. The first leg has an opening therein for receipt of a nut and for securing the nut in the leg. The second leg has a pass-through opening opposing the nut opening. The nut is fully passed through the pass-through opening for securing in the first leg. The nut can be positioned in the first leg without deflection and urging away of the legs from one another. A method for making the nut plate includes the steps of forming an elongated strip, forming a nut opening in the strip and forming a pass-through opening in the strip. The strip is bent to define a clip having the first and second legs and the connecting leg. The clip can be heat treated. A nut is then passed through the pass-through opening into the nut opening and is secured to the first leg.
