Abstract: In a motor pump where the cooling of the motor section and the lubrication of bearings are achieved by an independent circulation system of a treating liquid by an auxiliary impeller, the pressure of a motor section, that is, the pressure of the treating liquid circulating is raised more than the suction pressure of a main process (the suction pressure of a main impeller). The treating liquid circulating from a front rotor chamber is caused to flow through a passage into an inlet port which is separated radially outside by a selected distance L from a suction inlet portion of the auxiliary impeller. This raises the pressure at the inlet port (the pressure of the front rotor chamber) to a pressure which is higher than the pressure at the suction inlet port by a magnitude corresponding to the distance L.

  • Patent number: 5322420
Abstract: In a horizontal rotary compressor the gas passes from the discharge chamber and enters the eccentric shaft bore by passing through an annular space defined between the inlet of the eccentric shaft bore and the discharge end of the oil pickup tube. As a result, a jet pump is created delivering oil from the sump to the axial bore of eccentric shaft bore. Because the eccentric shaft is rotating, oil tends to collect on the walls of the bore and feeds radial lubrication passages which act as centrifugal pumps with the shaft rotating. The discharge flow passing through the eccentric shaft bore impinges upon the shell cover thereby diverting 180.degree. and passes through the annular space between the rotor and stator before being discharged from the compressor.

  • Patent number: 5087170
Abstract: A rotary compressor of the invention comprises an oil separating portion and an oil collecting portion located adjacent one end of a rotary shaft closely to a motor. An oil is separated through the oil separating portion and collected in the oil collecting portion in which the one end of the rotary shaft is submerged to lubricate a third bearing. The oil separating portion serves to separate oil mist which flows with gas flow. The one end of the rotary shaft is submerged in the oil as collected in the oil collecting portion under the influence of gravity to lubricate the bearing. This arrangement provides stable lubrication of the one end of the rotary shaft. The bearing is, thus, highly reliable while the rotary compressor is running at any speeds. Also, vibrations of the shaft can substantially be reduced particularly when the rotary compressor runs at a high speed.

  • Patent number: 5082428
Abstract: The invention is a centrifugal pump having an outer housing defining a pumping chamber. An impeller is rotatably positioned in the chamber for pumping a fluid. The impeller is mounted on the first end of a rotatable shaft. A journal bearing is positioned in the outer housing and disposed coaxially around the shaft. A small clearance space is present between the shaft and the journal bearing. The clearance space is in communication with the chamber whereby the fluid being pumped by the impeller is directed to said clearance space and the fluid provides the lubrication for the journal bearing. The impeller of the pump is moveable in the pumping chamber and positioned adjacent a first wall of the pumping chamber. An inverted tub is secured to the second end of the shaft and extends over a portion of the outer housing where the shaft is located. A drive belt engages the outer periphery of the inverted hub to rotate the inverted hub and impeller.

  • Patent number: 5046930
Abstract: A connecting rod having lubricating passages therein for cooling the piston assembly of a compressor. A central lubricating passage provides fluid communication between the crankshaft end portion and piston end portion of the connecting rod. The central lubricating passage conducts lubricant on the wrist pin, thus directly lubricating the wrist pin. The connecting rod also includes a plurality of branched passages branching from the central lubricating passage and extending through the piston end portion closely adjacent the wrist pin. Each of the branched passages is oriented to spray lubricant on the inner surface of the piston. Thus, the branched passages indirectly cool the wrist pin by drawing heat away from it and directly cool the piston by spraying lubricant thereon.

  • Patent number: 5040950
Abstract: A portable, high-pressure, power washing system is described which includes an electric motor driven gear pump where the electric motor is effectively water cooled by virtue of being contained in a thermally conductive housing surrounded by an insulating water jacket through which the water being pumped is made to flow before reaching the pump's inlet port. The pump is driven through a gear reduction mechanism such that a relatively inexpensive, single-phase, series AC (universal) motor normally operating at a high rpm can be employed. By proper dimensioning of the pump chamber relative to the drive and idler gears and by providing a flow divider at the pump chamber's discharge orifice, high pumping efficiency is obtained. Completing the assembly is a discharge wand for directing the high pressure water at the surface to be cleaned and for controlling the on/off state of the pump's drive motor.

  • Patent number: 5039284
Abstract: A positive displacement type pump for use in a fuel system of an internal combustion engine having a pump housing that includes a pump chamber and a vapor vent valve to allow vapor to flow out of the pump chamber. The vent valve includes a valve seat, a valve and a spring biasing the valve away from the valve seat. During pump operation, the liquid fuel flow pressure within the pump chamber is great enough to seat the valve and prevent fuel from escaping through the vapor vent valve. However, if the internal pressure drops due to a loss of pumping pressure caused by the ingestion of air or vapors, the vent valve automatically opens to allow vapor or air flow through the pump with a resultant cooling effect on the pump assembly.
