  • Patent number: 5288217
Abstract: A rotating machine with variable volumes which can rotate in one and/or two directions like the transmission shaft, more of less than (2.pi.). The machine is composed of a body with an inner cavity holding an articulated rotating prismatic structure, composed of one or more sides. Between the inner cavity and the sides of the prismatic structure, and among the same sides in the inner area, are fluid-retaining variable-volume chambers. The cyclic volume machine exploits the variations of the physical characteristics of fluids whose movements are the cause or effect of transmission shaft rotation. In transverse bars, and/or appropriate hinges between the sides of the rotor, centripetal forces oppose centrifugal forces. Lubricating and cooling systems are foreseen. The cyclic volume machine can be coaxial to a common transmission shaft and may be used as a pump, compressor, motor, engine, valve, distributor, hydraulic joint, and heat generator.

  • Patent number: 5246356
Abstract: The crankcase or cylinder body of a rotary compressor is secured in a shell by a shrink fit thereby providing intimate contact over its entire circumference. To maintain the proper positioning of the crankcase during the shrink fitting process, the outer surface of the crankcase defines a portion of a sphere, specifically the equatorial portion. As a result the spherical surface provides a stable contact surface over a range of positions of the crankcase and the intimate contact changes the frequencies of response of the shell.

  • Patent number: 5224848
Abstract: A scroll compressor having a first scroll member and a second scroll member includes a discharge valve device for closing an opening of a discharge port in which the discharge opening is disposed in at least one of the first and second scroll members. The discharge valve device is configured so that it is effected by a centrifugal force during operation of the scroll compressor. The centrifugal force normally maintains the discharge valve device in an open position with respect to the discharge opening. Thus, the discharge valve device is not actuated by a pressure difference between the discharge opening and the high pressure chamber and the scroll members are not rotated in reverse when operation of the scroll compressor is stopped.

  • Patent number: 5203686
Abstract: The valve assembly for a rotary compressor includes an elongated valve member which rests on pads on each side of the valve seat and includes an intermediate sealing section normally sealing against the valve seat. An elongated valve spring biases the sealing section toward engagement with the valve seat. An elongated spring backer sits on one end of the valve spring and the other end of the valve member. One end of each of the valve member, valve spring and spring backer are bolted to the compressor end plate. The other end of the spring backer permits the corresponding end of the valve member to slide along the end plate as the valve member moves between its open and closed positions, while restraining the end of the valve member from moving away from the end plate. A backer support, positioned between the spring backer and the head of the bolt, spreads the clamping force and defines a line about which the valve member and valve spring flex.

  • Patent number: 5165882
Abstract: A sealing mechanism for sealing an aperture formed through a housing of a closed vessel is disclosed. The sealing mechanism includes a bolt having a threaded shaft portion and a flange portion. A seating portion is formed on the outer opening of the aperture and a rotation preventing portion is formed on the surface of the seating portion. A washer is disposed on the seating portion. The washer is made of a metal softer than the material of the housing. When the bolt is rotated the washer contacts the flange portion of the bolt. The axial force of the bolt causes the washer to engage the rotation preventing portion. The rotation preventing portion deforms the washer and prevents the washer from rotating. Therefore, the inner end surface of the washer does not rub against the surface of the seating portion. As a result, adequate sealing is maintained.

Abstract: In reversible compressed air rotary motors for compressed air tools, particularly for wrenches, it is known to discharge the waste air radially from the casing of the motor, which results in a considerable nuisance, in particular as regards noise. Furthermore, due to the close positioning of the compressed air inlet and air outlet, poor efficiency is achieved. To avoid those drawbacks in a rotary sliding vane motor having an elliptical working chamber, the rotor end over on the inlet side is rotatably mounted, and air outlet means is arranged axially and lies in both the clockwise as well as in the antic-clockwise direction or rotation of the rotor relative to the major semi-axis of the elliptical working chamber. Thus by rotating the end cover to one or other of its limit positions, the outlet means communicate with different pairs of passageways.

  • Patent number: 4822263
Abstract: In a sliding-vane rotary compressor, one of the opposite open ends of a cylinder is closed by a first head, the other open end being closed by a side block to which is secured a second head so as to define jointly with the side block a low pressure chamber and a high pressure chamber. With this construction, one side block can be omitted and hence the number of structural components is reduced. Preferably, a displacement adjustment mechanism is incorporated in the side block and the second head for adjusting the displacement of the compressor.

  • Patent number: 4772186
Abstract: An improved torque control mechanism for a rotary vane, air motor tool includes acceleration and speed responsive slidable elements positioned in grooves that lie in a plane transverse to the spin axis of the motor and which form an angle with the radii extending from the spin axis. The elements cooperate with a cam plate which operates a fluid supply valve to close off air supply to the tool whenever torque of the tool causes the speed of the motor to decrease below a threshold level. A bypass valve and passage is manually operable to initiate operation of the air motor. An auxiliary low volume, low pressure valve and passage permits an operator to provide minor adjustments of the orientation of the output shaft of the tool. For reverse operation, the speed and acceleration control is eliminated by operation of a reverse operation control mechanism.
