  • Patent number: 4631012
Abstract: The tool housing-air motor assembly includes an air motor that is of modular design, that is, it is constructed so that the motor rotor is journaled in the cylinder by the end plates, which retain the motor in its operational alignment condition. • Patent number: 4608002
Abstract: A movable vane type compressor having a rotor rotatable within a cam cylinder. The inner peripheral surface of the cam cylinder and the outer peripheral surface of the rotor approach each other most closely at a plurality of positions which in combination define a plurality of compression chambers between these peripheral surfaces. The rotor carries a plurality of movable vanes which are movable radially inwardly and outwardly with their one ends held in sliding contact with the inner peripheral surface of the cam cylinder as the rotor rotates so as to cause suction, compression and discharge actions in each compression chamber. A refrigerant passage for introducing the refrigerant gas into the compression chambers is formed between the side plate closing one axial end of the cam cylinder and a front cover covering the side plate. • Patent number: 4573370
Abstract: A gear reversal mechanism for a hand held power tool is selectively operative to reverse the output of a unidirectional motor and provides a direct drive forward mode and an indirect drive reverse mode, with the selection therebetween being implemented by a manual shift collar operating a cam mechanism selectively to reorient the gear train and consequent direction of motor output. The shift collar is temporarily locked to the gear housing during tool operation by using the operative air pressure of the tool to expand a locking mechanism into locking engagement with such shift collar. With or without the locking mechanism, an exhaust shutoff shift interlock may be provided to permit exhaust air to exit the housing when the shift collar is in either its forward or reverse operating positions or alternatively to close the housing exhaust ports to block exhaust air flow to preclude motor operation when the shift collar is between its operating positions.

  • Patent number: 4516918
Abstract: An improved pump assembly includes a plurality of pumping elements which rotate with a rotor and engage an inner surface of a cam ring to define pumping chambers which hold liquid and/or air. As the pumping chambers move along an inlet arc, liquid flows through an orifice to the chambers. The orifice restricts the rate of flow of liquid to the pumping chambers to a flow rate which is insufficient to fill the chambers with liquid during high speed rotation of the rotor. As the pumping chambers move along an outlet arc which has a constant slope toward the rotor, the volume of each pumping chamber is decreased. When the fluid pressure in the pumping chamber exceeds a pump discharge pressure, one of a series of a check valves opens and fluid is discharged from the pumping chamber.

Abstract: A hand held machine tool intended for grinding and like operations, having an outer housing containing a pneumatic vane motor by which a tool carrying spindle is rotated. At its forward end, the motor is supported in the housing by at least one resilient O-ring for absorbing radial vibrations arising in the spindle during work and a conical thrust ball bearing for transferring axial load to the housing without restraining the radial resiliency provided by the at least one O-ring. At its rear end, the motor is supported in the housing by a substantially non-resilient O-ring, which means that the motor is apt to perform a pendular movement about its rear end when exposed to vibrations from the spindle.

  • Patent number: 4241758
Abstract: A pressure valve, especially for rotary piston compressors, which includes a valve housing in the form of a cylindrical sleeve which latter has circumferential through-flow openings or slots which from the inside of the sleeve are covered by a valve closure member comprising resilient lamellae. The valve closure member comprises a pre-bent pre-loaded lattice or grate-shaped metal sheet with parallel longitudinal strips forming the resilient lamellae the ends of which are respectively interconnected by two rim strips. These rim strips rest against both sides of an abutment or counter bearing located opposite the through-flow openings. In the closing position of the valve, the valve closure member tightly engages that inner surface of the sleeve which surrounds the through-flow opening or openings in the sleeve, whereas in the open position of the valve the valve closure member rests against two nearly diametrically oppositely located areas of the inner wall of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4242065
Abstract: A sliding vane compressor has a housing and a rotor mounted in the housing. The rotor has axial endfaces which are juxtaposed with respective housing surfaces from which they must be kept at a predetermined spacing. This spacing is obtained by mounting in open recesses of the axial rotor endfaces respective elements of a material having a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than the material of the rotor itself. As the compressor comes up to operating temperatures the resulting thermal expansion of these elements causes them to protrude beyond the axial rotor endfaces by a distance corresponding to the desired spacing.

Abstract: A torque-amplifying hydraulic servo-mechanism of the kind including a rotary hydraulic motor and a hydraulic distributor, said motor being of the sliding vane type and the distributor of the "face", open center type. According to the invention, the rotor (50) of the hydraulic motor includes two diametrically opposite cylindrical surfaces (90) in contact with the stator bore and each extending over an arc equal to that between two adjacent vanes (24), and two interconnecting portions each having two flat faces (106, 108) interconnected by a cylindrical surface portion (104); and the number of vanes (94) is advantageously four times the number of said surfaces ( 90), that is eight. The servo-mechanism thus designed may be advantageously used in power steering systems for motor vehicles, and produces an output torque substantially constant irrespective of the relative position of the rotor and stator of the hydraulic motor.

Abstract: An arrangement for mounting a gear on a drive shaft of a fuel pump includes a longitudinal slot dividing one end portion of the shaft into first and second cantilever sections. Shoulders formed in the slot on the cantilever sections abut a key extending transversly through the slot to protrude from the shaft and the key is received in keyways formed in the gear diametrically of each other and opening into a cylindrical aperture. The latter is sized to receive the inner end portion of the shaft with a press fit with end walls of the keyways abutting the protruding key to locate the shaft axially within the gear. The width of the slot separating the cantilever sections of the shaft is slightly greater than the diameter of the key thereby providing clearance between the key and the cantilever sections to allow deflection of the sections during press-fitting of the shaft in the gear.
