  • Patent number: 6082034
Abstract: A support device for supporting a person's arm when the arm is extended. The device can also be used to support an optical instrument such as a camera. The support device has a base structure adapted to be worn about a person's waist, proximate the hip. A support shaft extends from the base structure. The support shaft has a predetermined extended length between a first end and a second end. The support shaft contains a piston between its two ends. The presence of the piston enables said support shaft to be contracted to a contracted length that is less than its normal length. This enables a person to move his/her arm up and down while still being supported. The support shaft connects to the base structure with a ball and socket joint. Consequently, the support shaft is also free to move back and forth with that person's arm.

  • Patent number: 5819461
Abstract: An apparatus helps a user steadily hold a pointable device, such as a camera, a telescope, or a gun. It includes an arm rest having upper and lower portions, respectively, for supporting an upper arm from below and for restricting rotation of a lower arm bent at the elbow. The upper and lower arm holding portions each can press against a user's arm from enough directions to retard motion of the arm perpendicular to its length. The upper and lower portions can include cylindrical inner surfaces angled to bend an arm at least sixty degrees at the elbow. A support holds the arm rest from below. The support can include a rigid elongated member. In some embodiments, this member reaches to the ground. In many others, it rests against a user's hip and has a lower end designed to be supported by a pocket, belt, or Velcro pad on the user's hip.

  • Patent number: 5819462
Abstract: The present invention relates to an assembly which can be employed to support a weapon in an upright orientation. The assembly is such that it can easily be disassembled, transported to a hunting sight, and reassembled for use. In its broadest context, the present invention includes a stand which is adapted to be inserted into the ground. The stand, in the preferred embodiment, can be removably coupled at one or more locations. Additionally, a butt receiving piece is adapted to be removably secured to the lower extent of the stand. A weapon supporting arm, in turn, is adapted to be removably secured to the upper extent of the stand. Thus, when assembled, the assembly provides a convenient means to keep a weapon upright and at the ready.

  • Patent number: 5811720
Abstract: A shooting rest for a rifle which absorbs the recoil produced when the rifle is fired. The invention includes a rifle mounting structure, a base structure, and a swivel plate. The rifle is secured to the rifle mounting structure which has a mechanism for adjusting the elevation of the rifle barrel resting thereon. The rifle mounting structure is slidably engaged to the base structure so that the rifle mounting structure may slide backwards in response to the recoil from firing the rifle. The recoil energy from the rifle is absorbed by several rubber balls when a first bracket mounted to the rifle mounting structure is forced backwards towards the rubber balls which are held in position by a second bracket mounted to the base structure. The base structure may be mounted on a plate which swivels around a vertical axis to allow the rifle to be aimed in different horizontal directions.
