Abstract: A TSRU for recovering solvent from solvent diluted tailings includes a separation apparatus receiving the tailings and producing solvent and solvent recovered tailings. The separation apparatus includes a vessel, a tailings outlet, a solvent outlet, a tailings inlet for supplying a variable flow of the tailings to the vessel and a tailings recycle line connected to the tailings inlet for recycling part of the solvent recovered tailings into the variable flow of the diluted tailings to produce a flow rate controlled feed for introduction into the vessel. A tailings solvent recovery process includes separating the diluted tailings into recovered solvent and solvent recovered tailings, discharging the solvent recovered tailings, and recycling a portion of the solvent recovered tailings back into the variable flow of the diluted tailings. A method of controlling feed flow rate to a tailings solvent recovery vessel is also provided.

The contaminants are enriched in the vapor. Abstract: An extraction apparatus capable of continuously and efficiently extracting a biological substance is provided. Multiple rotation discs are utilized in the extraction apparatus to significantly improve the efficiency of extracting the biological substance by using an extraction solvent. Specifically, when the extraction solvent is applied to extract lipids from microalgae, retention time of the microalgae in the extraction solvent can be significantly increased, and solubility of the microalgal lipids in the extraction solvent can be improved. Hence, the efficiency of extracting the lipids from the microalgae by using the extraction solvent can be enhanced. On the other hand, owing to the improvement of the efficiency of extracting the lipids from the microalgae, the amount of the extraction solvent can be reduced, and production costs can be reduced as well.

The disclosed methods and systems for virus inactivation involve the key steps of dissolving carbon dioxide into biological or other sensitive substances; and treating the substance with the dissolved carbon dioxide at conditions which are less than critical pressure and temperature for a prescribed treatment time to inactivate at least 80% of the target virus or viruses contained within the biological or other sensitive substances. The disclosed carbon dioxide treatments for virus inactivation may optionally include concurrently or sequentially subjecting the substances with an acid treatment to lower the pH of the substance and inactivate viruses contained within the biological or other sensitive substance.

Abstract: A crystallizer for the evaporative production of phenol-BPA adduct crystals is provided that achieves more uniform crystal growth while suppressing undesired crystal nucleation. The crystallizer includes a cylindrical vessel; a draft tube concentrically disposed within the cylindrical vessel such that an annular space is defined between the vessel and tube; an impeller that circulates liquid in the vessel through the draft tube and the annular space, and a plurality of nozzles mounted around an inner wall of said cylindrical vessel that introduce an evaporative coolant into the vessel. Each of the nozzles includes a discharge end disposed between about 30% and 60% of a radial extent of the annular space, and is located below an upper end of the draft tube a distance of between about 50% to 150% of the diameter of the vessel. Such a nozzle arrangement provides a consistent and uniform concentration of coolant across the surface of the boiling zone that prevents or at least reduces unwanted crystal nucleation.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for recovering rare metal, which separates and collects rare metals by making use of chemical actions in an efficient combination of adsorption and separation, thereby reducing work load and improving work safety. The method for recycling rare metals includes a leaching step in which a rare metal of palladium, platinum, and rhodium is mixed with hydrochloric acid into a hydrochloric acid mixture, which is then stirred at one atmospheric pressure or lower at a temperature from 50 to 90 degrees Centigrade. The vapor resulting from the stirring is condensed, and the hydrochloric acid resulting from the condensing is fed back to the original hydrochloric acid mixture to produce a hydrochloric acid leaching solution. The hydrochloric acid leaching solution produced in the leaching step is used to collect the rare metals.

The microwave chamber has a power level of 100 W to 1,500 W and its microwave radiation has a frequency at 915 MHz or 2,450 MHz. The extraction process can be performed without any preheating necessary. A condenser is operated at temperatures between ?20° C. and 15° C. for cooling the gas flowing out of the extraction cartridges. Because both volatile fragrant compounds and pigments of the odorous raw materials can be extracted successfully by the top-down extraction fashion, the extracted essence is colorful. Since the extraction process by microwave heating is free from adding any organic solvent and/or any artificial chemical compound, the extraction apparatus and method are environmentally friendly.
