    Abstract: The present invention relates generally to polymer devices impregnated with semiochemical attractants for termites. The materials for delivering the semiochemicals are preferably cellulose-free. Devices of the subject invention are placed in soil and provide a slow-release and permeation of the semiochemicals into the adjacent soil so that termites tunneling in the vicinity are directed toward the chemical sources. Because the semiochemicals are impregnated in the polymer, the device also protects the semiochemicals so that they do not degrade rapidly under field conditions. In a preferred embodiment, the subject invention comprises a durable station housing, preferably with a removable bait, wherein the body of the station housing itself is impregnated with a semiochemical attractant.

    Abstract: Broadly defined sol-gel films for the coating of solid substrates, wherein such sol-gel films provide effective and durable antimicrobial properties. The utilization of such films permits relatively low-temperature production of antimicrobial substrates, such as ceramics, metals (e.g., stainless steel, brass, and the like), plastics (e.g., polyimides, polyamides, polyacrylics, and the like), glass (e.g., borosilicates, and the like), as compared with typical glazes for ceramics and the like. The inventive films comprise, as the primary antimicrobial active ingredients, certain metal-containing inorganic or organic antimicrobial compounds, such as, preferably, metal-containing ion-exchange, oxide, glass, sulfadiazine, and/or zeolite compounds (most preferably, including silver therein as the metal component).

In order to accomplish this, the insect control coil includes a spiral-shaped body composed of a burnable material and having an insect control active substance as an ingredient thereof, a coating on the spiral-shaped body which contains an auxiliary amount of an insect control active substance which provides an auxiliary burst of active substance when burnt, and at least one of either the body or the coating further including a sensory cue indicative of the release of the reactive substance from the coating. The coating may be formed on the tip end of the body, or alternately, may be formed intermittently along the length of the body of the coil.
