  • Patent number: 8865192
Abstract: The present invention relates to flavor oils including mint-, fruit- and spice-type flavors that are specially processed to substantially eliminate low-molecular weight sulfur compounds, in particular dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), which has been found to be the main precursor of malodorous species such as dimethyl sulfide and methyl mercaptan. These malodorous species are produced via oxidation-reduction reactions involving such sulfur-containing compounds present in flavor oils. A preferred processing method is an aqueous-washing process, which has advantages of being simple, inexpensive and easy to implement while importantly avoiding the problems of typical processes including non-selective removal of desirable components and subjecting the flavor oils to extreme conditions that may destroy other components and result in undesirable changes in flavor or odor character.

So far synthetic material (e.g. Triclosan) has been used which is believed by many consumers to be harsh on them. Consumers, more and more prefer using products that contain natural materials. Further, in many countries, culturally or otherwise, people are reluctant to using alcohol in their mouthwashes. The present inventors have been working on solving these problems and have come up with an oral care composition which includes natural materials that are found to interact synergistically with certain metal salts in killing S. mutans, a bacterium responsible for tooth decay.

Abstract: An enhancing composition comprising a solvent and a base compound creates an alkaline environment for activating peroxide whiteners and accelerating the formation of free radicals from the peroxide to effect the oxidation of organic molecules causing staining of the dentition. In one embodiment, potassium hydroxide is dissolved in water to form a strongly alkaline liquid. A surfactant may also be included to clean the surfaces of the user's teeth in advance of application of the whitening composition. A peroxide may be added to the enhancing composition to provide a tooth whitening. Other additives for taste, texture, viscosity, and other oral care or oral hygiene purposes may also be included in the enhancing composition. The enhancing composition may be used for advance application to the dentition before a whitening compound. In addition, a rinse may be used after the whitening composition to neutralize the alkaline environment.

Abstract: Concentrated fatty alcohol sulfate preparations which comprise at least 35% by weight of fatty alcohol sulfate (FAS) are described. The compositions are aqueous, but, besides the FAS, also comprise polyols, fatty acid alkylamides and/or oil-soluble betaines. They are suitable for the production of detergents and cleaners, but also for the production of cosmetic compositions, in particular dental care compositions.

Abstract: Disclosed are a liquid type dentifrice composition primarily containing silver particles which is drawn out in foam state when used to brush teeth to prevent the liquid dentifrice from flowing down during tooth-brushing, resulting in effective and convenient tooth-brushing function and exhibit bactericidal action and protect mouth and teeth from periodontal disease and other mouth diseases because of original properties of silver ingredients in the dentifrice composition; and, in addition to, a mousse type dentifrice formulation using the same that improves aesthetic property and product quality thereof. The inventive dentifrice composition primarily containing silver particles useful for mouthwash comprises: at least one surfactant selected from a group consisting of 0.5 to 3% by weight of SQdium lauryl sulfate, 0.05 to 1% by weight of sodium sarcosine laurate, 0.5 to 5% by weight of alkyl polyglucoside and 0.

Abstract: An aqueous shear-thinning personal care composition comprises: (a) at least 3 wt % of a sulfonate compound of general formula (I): where R1 represents a C8-22 alkyl group alkyl group; R2 represents a C1-4 alkyl group; each of R3, R4 and R5 independently represents a hydrogen atom or a C1-4 alkyl group; and M+ represents a sodium or potassium cation; (b) at least 3 wt % of an amphoteric or zwitterionic surfactant; (c) at least 10 wt % of water; and (d) at least 0.5 wt % of an additional component in the form of particles or droplets suspended in the composition. The composition is stable in an aqueous environment and can be formulated with a wide range of additional components.
