  • Patent number: 6254369
Abstract: Rectangular construction studs are provided with a plastic or polyethylene extrusion resin skin by extruding the plastic onto the manufactured core of the stud through a die which has been constructed to provide a substantially uniform rate of feed of extrusion materials throughout an entire flattened rectangular oblong enveloping prismatic and conforming cavity defined in the die which completely and prismatically circumscribes a rectangular core member, which is being disposed and translated through the die from a feed position in the die to its extrusion exit ports. The uniform volume feed rate is achieved through the use of a plurality of feeding risers communicating between a supply runner and an extrusion channel in the die.

  • Patent number: 6254924
Abstract: A pre-twisted cable pair and a method for processing such pairs into an electrical cable having improved electrical and mechanical properties is disclosed. At least one insulated wire for transmitting electrical signals is pre-twisted prior to pairing with another insulated wire. As the pre-twisted wires are paired by a conventional double-twist machine which imparts back-twist, the detrimental electrical effects caused by irregularities in the individual wires are cycled over a very short distance, resulting in a cable pair having lower structural return loss, near-end crosstalk, and insertion loss than wires paired without any pre-twist. These pre-twisted wires may be united into a jacketed electrical cable by a continuous-extrusion jacketing process in which an optimal dielectric constant is maintained around each individual cable pair.

  • Patent number: 6113727
Abstract: A method and apparatus for extruding a plastic spacer directly on an object, in particular on the periphery of window glazing, such as automobile glazing intended to be glued into the opening of a vehicle. In particular the invention relates to properly producing the connection zone between the end and the beginning of the extruded spacer when it forms a closed loop. According to the invention the beginning of the spacer and the remainder of the loop are extruded, with the exception of the connection zone. The object is then provided with an applied anti-adhesive deposit surface that is continuous with the surface of the object. The path of the extrusion head is diverted in relation to the surface of the object so that the extrusion occurs on the applied deposit surface, proximate to and beyond the beginning of the spacer loop. The extruded spacer is then allowed to harden and the extremities of the spacer are cut and adjusted to properly complete the connection.

  • Patent number: 6068796
Abstract: A simplex optical fiber cable of this invention includes an optical fiber, a buffer preferably of nylon, surrounding and in contact with the optical fiber, a yarn layer with strength fibers, preferably aramid fibers, disposed about the buffer and a sheath preferably formed of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) surrounding and in contact with the yarn layer. In cross-section, the simplex optical fiber cable has a diameter less than 2.0 millimeters (mm), and thus is much smaller in diameter than optical fiber cables presently available. Preferably, if the buffer is relatively tin providing limited protection to the optical fiber, a slick substance such as talc is applied to an outer surface of the buffer before the yam layer is disposed thereon. The slick substance allows the buffer of the optical fiber to slide to a degree in contact with the yarn layer and thus reduces fatigue caused by axial movement of a ferrule of the connector terminating the optical fiber cable.

Abstract: An apparatus for producing a ribbed hose which is capable of effectively producing a ribbed hose irrespective of a diameter or size of a hose while preventing the apparatus from being large-sized. A cylinder is formed therein with a hose feed passage and a first drive mechanism is arranged for driving the cylinder. Also, a screw is arranged in parallel to the hose feed passage and driven by a second drive mechanism. The screw is provided on a distal end thereof with a nozzle, which is adapted to revolve around the hose to form a rib on a hose.

  • Patent number: 5807588
Abstract: This invention aims to shorten cycle time by allowing a robot to be operated with speed capability regardless of the shape of moldings. An extrusion molding apparatus has an extrusion molding machine which delivers an extrusion material which becomes a frame-shaped molding through a nozzle fore end, and a robot which holds a workpiece on which the molding is formed and whose working speed is set so as to make travel speed of workpiece rectilinear portions with respect to the nozzle fore end higher than travel speed of workpiece corner portions with respect to the nozzle fore end. Thus, changes in workpiece travel speed with respect to the nozzle fore end are allowed, and robot working speed is not restricted by the shape of moldings.

  • Patent number: 5795392
Abstract: A core tube or tip holder for positioning in the axial bore of the body of cross-head die apparatus through which a wire, or the like, is drawn as a layer of flowable coating material is applied thereto. The coating material is injected through a radial bore in the body which communicates with the axial bore at a position aligned with a first annular groove in the external surface of the core tube. The first annular groove extends between opposite ends partially around the core tube. A second annular groove extends fully around the core tube. The second annular groove is positioned between the first groove and the front end of the core tube. The first and second annular grooves communicate with one another via a pair of axial grooves extending between the second annular groove and the opposite ends of the first groove. The first annular groove and axial grooves are bounded on all sides by external surface portions which lie in a uniformly tapering, conical plane.

  • Patent number: 5773037
Abstract: The device (2) for changing the outside coating color of the extruded product is seated directly in the extrusion head (1), thus minimizing the length of the duct (25) in which the colored extrudates would be liable to mix; on the other hand, since no colored extrudate can stagnate upstream from that duct, the colored coating is always composed of freshly extruded material. Thus, the transition from one color to another is extremely short on the finished product, so that no faulty material is to be found on that product. The color changing device is essentially composed of an axially movable needle-valve (24) which can be actuated by various means. Through design modifications of this needle-valve, a two-color coating can be produced. An extrusion head equipped with such a device is particularly well adapted to the solid or expanded insulation of electric conductors, although other types of extruded objects can also be produced according to the same principle.
