  • Patent number: 4295813
Abstract: An apparatus and method for mounting thermoplastic materials directly upon a string medium. A hot runner system or three-plate mold provides the cavities for integrating the molten thermoplastic material and string medium. Molten thermoplastic is injected at a plurality of input apertures along a bifurcated mold, the bifurcated mold having complementary cavities joined by subrunners to transmit the molten thermoplastic material into each cavity. Each cavity is adapted to form a member which is to be permanently affixed on the string medium and includes aligned channels for receiving the stringed medium prior to injection of the molten thermoplastic material. The stringed medium is disposed within the channels prior to injection of the molten thermoplastic material. Under appropriate temperature and pressure conditions, the injected thermoplastic runner flows into subrunners filling each cavity of the bifurcated mold, thermoplastic bodies forming about the stringed medium in a permanent manner.

  • Patent number: 4104094
Abstract: Apparatus and method for forming and fixing cleats to belting, for forming industrial conveyor belts and the like as a usable product. Various durometers can be chosen by selection of cure-cycle for the cleats, which may be different from that of the belting itself. No metal fasteners are employed; rather, in a preferred form of the invention, the cleat is both formed, cured, and pressed against the belting under raise-temperature conditions during the cure cycle. The cleat will be securely bonded or vulcanized to the belting. Rubber cement can be employed at cleat-securement surfaces. The invention also comprehends multiple cleats being simultaneously secured to the belting.

  • Patent number: 4011035
Abstract: An improved apparatus and method is provided for molding a plurality of plastic characters on the upper surface of a plastic blank having a passage at each location where a character is to be molded. Rotatable die wheels having character defining recesses or cavities are disposed at a molding station above a support for the blank. These die wheels are rotated relative to each other to align cavities defining selected characters directly above the passages in the blank. The aligned die wheels are then moved into abutting engagement with the upper surface of the blank with the passages in the blank communicating with the cavities of the wheels which define the selected characters.
