  • Patent number: 6196824
Abstract: An injection molding apparatus having an A side and a B side for use with interchangeable molding tools that allow the center gating of a part. Center gating directly into a molding tool provides a uniformly stress resistant cylindrical part. The use of interchangeable molding tools provides easy replacement of tools that are designed to produce a variety of different parts. Each interchangeable molding tool provides a runner tool distribution system to allow injected material to enter directly into the center of a part to be molded. Once the part is molded, the runner that is formed in the runner tool distribution system is separated from the molded part. The molded parts are then simultaneously released from the mold assembly.

  • Patent number: 5942260
Abstract: An extruding apparatus for producing a honeycomb structure having cell walls and a skin. The apparatus includes a die (10) and a mask (20). The mask (20) is of an annular shape of an inner diameter (D1) and is located on an annular recess formed by a taper surface (19) and an outlet end surface (18b) of the die. The mask (20) has a top surface (21), which is in contact with an outlet end surface (18b) of the die (10), so that the degree of the opening of feed holes (11a), (11b) and (11c) are controlled by the particular shape of the end surface (21). A change of the mask to the one as shown by a phantom line (30) allows the shape of the top surface to be changed from the one shown by (21) to the one shown by (31), which allows the degree of the opening of the feed holes (11a), (11b) and (11c) to be desirably controlled.

  • Patent number: 5935504
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method for adapting injection molding machines utilizing horizontally opening and closing molds and their opening and closing mechanisms to vertically opening and closing molds and their opening and closing mechanisms and vice versa. An injection molding machine might, for example, be utilized to inject hot synthetic resin substantially horizontally into a cavity between horizontally opening and closing molds associated with horizontally opening and closing mechanisms. This horizontal mold and its opening and closing mechanism is removed relative to the injection molding machine and substituted therefor is a vertically opening and closing mold and its associated vertically opening and closing mechanisms. The hot plastic material from the horizontal injection molding machine is initially constrained in movement horizontally but subsequently vertically into the cavity of the vertically opening mold.

  • Patent number: 5922477
Abstract: Relatively thin (e.g., thickness of less than about 2.5 mm, and typically no greater than about 1.0 mm) plates for synthetic fiber-forming spin packs include a first metal layer exhibiting a relatively slow photochemical etching property and a second metal layer exhibiting a relatively fast photochemical etching property which are adhered (laminated) to one another to form a composite substrate structure. The differential etch rates as between the first and second metal layers permit relatively dimensionally larger distribution channels and relatively dimensionally precise through holes to be formed in the composite substrate. In this regard, the second metal layer permits the formation via photochemical etching of dimensionally deeper and/or wider polymer distribution channels. The first metal layer, on the other hand, allows for the formation of relatively dimensionally precise through holes via concurrent (simultaneous) etching with the second metal layer.

  • Patent number: 5916603
Abstract: A mold base kit including plural plates having alignment bores for receiving guide dowels for accurately aligning the plates with respect to one another as a mold frame is assembled from the kit. Each guide dowel includes a hollow, cylindrical sleeve sized to fit snugly in the alignment bores of adjacent, abutting plates and also includes an abutment member extending radially outwardly of the guide dowel sleeve intermediate its ends which prevents the guide dowel from moving a substantial distance along an alignment bore. The abutment member may be formed by a circular piece of spring wire which extends through an arc of more than 180.degree. around the outside of the dowel sleeve, and preferably approximately 270.degree. around the sleeve. Because the retainer clip extends less than completely around the sleeve, its ends can readily be spread apart for assembly of the retainer clip onto the sleeve.

According to the present invention, the semiconductor package strips excellent in surface flatness and side straightness of a substrate can be manufactured, because the thickness deviation and the side nonuniformity of a substrate can be compensated for in the resin molding process of the semiconductor package by use of a forming apparatus which comprises the individual cavity blocks, elastically mounted so as to float up and down, and the elastic pressing members, mounted on one end of the upper and lower chases.

  • Patent number: 5882695
Abstract: A guiding mechanism and method are provided for properly aligning molds or portions thereof, such as ejector plates, as they are cycled. The guiding mechanism is an improvement over conventional bushings which require that the mold in which the bushings are mounted to be removed from the press and disassembled and thereafter, the press fitted bushings are pressed out. Herein, the bushings are provided with a replaceable insert or portion that is easily disconnected from the remainder of the bushing such as by unthreading a threaded insert from a threaded bushing body without removing the mold half from the press. A first replaceable insert can be mounted in the bushing body which is sized to receive the leader pin to guide the leader pins therein and align the mold halves as they are moved to the closed position.
