Abstract: In producing a product foamed molding by molding into a specified shape a foamed product obtained by foaming a kneaded product obtained by kneading a fibrous material with an aqueous solution, followed by drying, an aqueous solution in which a binder mainly composed of gelatin and/or glue having a jelly strength of 130 Bloom or more is dissolved is used as the aqueous solution, whereby the generation of depressions in a pockmark form on a surface of the product foamed molding can be prevented to increase the yield of the product, and the specific gravity of the product can be reduced, thus being able to produce the foamed molding such as a cushioning material excellent in elastic performance economically, continuously and in large amounts.

  • Publication number: 20030156490
Abstract: A process for activating polymer including preconditioning a diluent by heating it to a high temperature and then mixing the heated diluent with the polymer to form a blend having a high polymer content (e.g., about 5% polymer and 95% hot diluent). The blend is activated and then diluted by mixing it with a cold or cool diluent in order to provide an output stream of about 0.25-2% polymer having a relatively low temperature. The high temperature and high polymer content enables a continuous process, as distinguished from batch processes used heretofore which required substantial holding time in an aging tank. The reduction of the temperature of the blend by mixing it with cold or cool diluent prevents damage to heat-sensitive polymers.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for combining raw fibrous and binding materials in a single mixing step (Step S3), followed by consolidation (Step S5) so as to greatly shorten the overall cycle time to a finished fiber-reinforced composite part. Chopped fibrous materials and binder materials are deposited sequentially onto a belt conveyor (Step S2) so that the materials are successively layered, one on top of each other in a predetermined ratio, and subsequently mixed (Step S3) to achieve uniform dispersion throughout. The mixed materials are then deposited into a rotating mold (Step S4) to further ensure uniform dispersion of fibrous and binder materials. Impregnation of the fibrous materials with the binder material occur in-situ as the uniformly mixed materials are heated and subsequently compacted in the mold (Step S5) to obtain the desired shape of the fiber-reinforced composite part.

Abstract: The present invention provides an extruder for highly foamed plastic material for coating a central conductor of a coaxial insulated cable with an insulator made of a mixture of a plastic material, preferably polyethylene, and an inert gas, such as nitrogen gas, to serve as a foaming agent. An inert gas is introduced approximately halfway down the extruder through a lead-in portion. At the lead-in portion of the extruder is a vent portion wherein the screw is provided with a plurality of stirring blades extending radially from the screw toward the inner surface of the extruder. These stirring blades provide a mechanism by which the inert gas is mixed thoroughly into the plastic material. The above invention provides an apparatus for producing an insulating material in which an inert gas (such as nitrogen), rather than hydrocarbon chloride fluoride, is used as a foaming agent, thus avoiding potential harm to the ozone layer.

Abstract: Extruder barrel temperature control apparatus in the form of a plurality of axially spaced tubular shells positioned in end-to-end relationship on the outer surface of a tubular extruder barrel. Each of the shells includes individual resistance heater elements embedded in the shell wall for providing heat to maintain a desired shell temperature. Each shell includes two groups of outwardly extending cooling fins, each group axially spaced from the other, and each group of fins has an associated air blower positioned below the fins and supported by an outer casing surrounding the extruder barrel. The outer casing includes an internal shroud to confine the cooling air flow so it is directed over and along the cooling fins. The heating elements and the blower motors are connected with a suitable control system for providing and maintaining a desired temperature level at the barrel inner surface. Six such shells defining six respective heating and cooling zones are disclosed.

Abstract: A bimetallic cylinder of steel having an alloy inlay which includes chromium boride in a matrix of iron alloy containing carbon, silicon, nickel and copper. The chromium boride imparts wear resistance to the inlay and relatively high contents of chromium, nickel and silicon and the presence of molybdenum and copper in the alloy make it resistant to corrosion. The cylinder is useful for injection molding and extrusion of plastics.

  • Patent number: 5147660
Abstract: A device for filling molds with a casting resin or the like. An elastic casting container, with at least one fill and discharge opening, is arranged in the pressure box, which casting container selectively receives the casting resin therein from a feed pipe and delivers the casting resin to the mold through a fill pipe. The casting container is emptied by a pressure buildup inside of the pressure box, either by means of a gaseous or a liquid pressure medium. In this manner, the casting container can be loaded with the casting resin such that a renewed gas loading of the already degassed casting resin prior to the filling of the mold no longer occurs, while simultaneously limiting cleaning operations.

  • Patent number: 5114331
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for shrinking volumes of waste foamed plastics which have been used as packing materials. The waste plastic materials are thrown into a hopper provided on a crushing room having an opening in an upper part and tapering towards its lower part. A plurality of crushing vanes having a radius of gyration of length reaching within said hopper rotate in said crushing room, to break the foamed plastics into shreds. The broken plastics flow into a sending cylinder through a receipt opening toward the side wall of the crushing room, and are sent forward by screw vanes within the sending cylinder. Subsequently, the waste plastics are compressed in a compression cylinder connected in series to the sending cylinder and further softened and de-foamed by a heating cylinder and exhausted through a nozzle provided at the end of the housing cylinder. Extruded bar like shrinked resins are cut into chips by a rotating cutter and exhausted from the apparatus by air flow.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing a synthetic board from cellulosic or lignocellulosic fibers is disclosed wherein a standard isocyanate binder is emulsified and immediately applied to the fibers before consolidation into a finished board product. The apparatus includes an emulsification and application nozzle comprising a diluent inlet, a binder inlet, a mixing section for emulsifying the diluent and the binder, and a spray nozzle for applying the binder/diluent emulsion to the fibers. The method includes supplying a binder stream, supplying a diluent stream, emulsifying the binder with the diluent and immediately applying the emulsion to the fibers. The method further includes flushing the binder/diluent emulsion using the diluent at the end of a binder application run to prevent curing of the emulsion and clogging of the apparatus. The present invention can be used to apply the binder/diluent emulsion to the fibers either in the blowline or downstream of the blowline, such as in the blender.

  • Patent number: 4902211
Abstract: A plant for manufacturing aerated concrete products includes a casting station where a quick-stiffening mixture is prepared and poured into a mold. To form the mold, a movable wall arrangement disposed at the casting station is temporarily united with a transportable mold bottom. After the poured mixture hardens to a semiplastic body, the semiplastic body is removed along with the mold bottom and another mold bottom is assembled with the wall arrangement to receive the next pouring of mixture. As a result, the capital investment required for the plant is minimized. Wires on the wall arrangement may be used to automatically cut the semiplastic body into blocks. The stiffening time for forming the semiplastic body is kept short so that the pacing time between consecutive pourings can also be kept short. The semiplastic bodies on the mold bottoms are stacked on trucks which are guided by tracks to autoclaves at a steam curing station.
