Abstract: The present invention concerns a molding device with a longitudinal axis, comprising a first half-shell and a second half-shell, the two half-shells being capable of being joined along an opening plane so as to form a cavity with an elongate cross-section, having a major axis and a minor axis. The opening plane of the mold is substantially perpendicular to the major axis. In accordance with the invention, each half-shell comprises at least two separate longitudinal parts joined along at least one joint surface, each joint surface being delimited by two opposed sides of two adjacent parts, at least one of the sides having at least one recess so as to define with the other side at least one narrow slot to allow air to escape along the surface during the blow molding of the object.
Abstract: A method and an apparatus are provided for inserting labels into blow-molded hollow articles. The blow-molding apparatus includes a carrousel mounted to rotate within a support frame. The carrousel carries four multi-cavity molds around a circular mold path. Two blow-molding workstations are disposed next to the mold path in fixed positions relative to the frame. The carrousel is indexed to cause each mold to pause by each workstation, and at a label-insertion station, one time during each carrousel revolution. An in-mold labeler inserts a label into each mold at the label-insertion station. The in-mold labeler includes four picker heads supported on a carriage that shuttles the heads between label dispensing magazines and the mold station path. Each magazine includes a label stack receptacle in which labels rest edgewise, by gravitational force on a pair of label guide surfaces.
Abstract: This invention discloses a method of holding and transporting a hollow flexible belt throughout a coating process. The method includes placing an expandable insert into the hollow portion of a seamless flexible belt, and expanding the insert until it forms a chucking device with a protrusion on at least one end. A mechanical handling device is then attached to the protrusion, and will be used to move the chuck and the belt through the dipping process, as materials needed to produce a photosensitive device are deposited onto the surface of the belt, allowing it to be transformed into an organic photoreceptor. The chucking device and flexible belt are then removed from the mechanical handling device, the belt is cut to the desired width, and the chuck is removed from the inside of the photoreceptor.

Abstract: A label pickup mechanism for an in-mold blow molding machine has a rotating magazine system which allows the captive stack of labels to rotate about a center point by sliding on a circular track of a radius common to the base plate of the label magazine and a front plate carried in the label support apparatus. Such rotation prevents the label stack to lose its coordinate position while trying to address label askewness. The label stack is kept compressed against retaining tabs by using label pushers.

Abstract: The present invention is intended to prevent the deformation of a cylindrical mouth portion of a preform when a blow pressure acts thereon in a diameter expanding direction during biaxial orientation blow molding. During biaxial orientation blow molding, sealing of the blow pressure is accomplished by means of a neck ring P1 circumferentially provided on a lower end of the circumferentially provided on a lower end of the circumferential surface of a cylindrical mouth portion P2 of a preform to thereby make the blow pressure act uniformly on the whole area of the cylindrical mouth portion P2, whereby the unreasonable deformation of the cylindrical mouth portion P2 due to the ununiform application of blow pressure thereto can totally be eliminated.

An angle of one of the polygons is aligned along a radial line connecting a bisected point of one side of an adjacent upper or lower polygon and the center of the central inwardly concave dome. The angles of the polygons are the highly stretched areas having a high latitudinal stretch ratio, while the sides of the polygons particularly around the center point, are the moderately stretched areas. The highly and the moderately stretched areas are alternately arranged around the central inwardly concave dome in the circumferential and radial directions.

The cradle for supporting the mold is provided with an air blowing means for letting an air into a parison at the time of molding.
Abstract: An apparatus for forming a hollow container from a hot closed-end parison includes injection molding a hot-closed-end parison, adjusting the temperature of the hot closed-end parison by heating or cooling the hot closed-end parison by heating in a predetermined location within a temperature adjusting pot in a temperature adjusting device. The parison is then blow-molded into a hollow container having a predetermined configuration after the parison has been adjusted in temperature. The temperature adjusting operation uses at least either of the temperature adjusting pot or a temperature adjusting core in the temperature adjusting device so as to apply a pre-treatment, such as by clamping, to a portion of the hot closed-end parison for obtaining the predetermined concavo-convex pattern in the hollow container formed at the subsequent blowing step. Thus, a hollow container, a portion of which has the desired concavo-convex pattern, can be mass-produced simply and inexpensively.

Air injection nozzles, inserted between the two flaps of the films on the side of the above mentioned longitudinal edge, and two forming half-molds, in which forming cavities are defined at the cells, operate in the forming station. Divaricators for divaricating the two flaps of the films are provided proximate to the forming station so as to facilitate the insertion of the air injection nozzles.

Abstract: This relates to a labeller for applying simultaneously two labels to a dual cavity mold half. The labeller is especially constructed to receive a pair of labels from a pair of adjacent label magazines and then move one of the labels towards the other so as to reduce the overall width of the pair of labels. This permits the pair of labels to be moved between a pair of mold halves within the limited space available and thereafter be rotated for alignment with the dual cavities of the mold half for positioning within the dual cavities. Basically speaking, the labeller includes a support member having mounted thereon a pair of carriers for separate movement towards and away from one another. The carriers are moved such that one normally remains fixed after a label is picked up by pickup heads carried thereby while the other carrier is moved towards the first carrier so as to move the labels together.

Abstract: The apparatus for making a multi-layer plastic bottle with a handle for holding liquids and the like which includes molds enclosing a hollow parison of molten plastic which is at a blow molding temperature, pinching a portion of the hollow parison as the mold closes to form a hollow moil portion and neck portion, simultaneously pinching a portion of the hollow parison to form a hollow handle portion while leaving a portion of the parison to provide a passage from the moil portion to the handle portion and thereafter expanding the parison through the moil portion to form the container.
Abstract: A mold for controlling the weight and wall thickness distribution in a blow molded plastic manufactured article or a family or related articles involves simultaneous formation of the manufactured article and a waste article. The waste article is removed and recycled to manufacture further articles. The waste article forming chamber increases the apparent depth of the manufactured article chamber to create a larger apparent surface area, so that the parison is being blown over a much larger surface area, creating a reduced actual part weight and actual wall thickness.
Abstract: The present invention provides a blow molding apparatus which conveys preforms to a blow molding stage while holding the preform by two rows of supporting plates, places the preforms in two rows of blowing molds disposed corresponding to the supporting plates, blow molding the preform into hollow containers when the blowing molds are in their closed positions, thereafter opening the blowing molds to remove the molded containers therefrom. In this blow molding apparatus the row pitch between the supporting plates is changed between one when the blowing molds are opened and another when the blowing molds are in the other conditions. In this apparatus, the row pitch between the supporting plates is not required to maintain the maximum pitch when the blowing molds are opened. Thus, the blow molding system may be reduced in size and occupying area.
