Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for adhering a synthetic resin gasket to a filtering element of an air filter. The apparatus incorporates a mold having a synthetic resin forming gasket cavity therein in which the synthetic resin gasket is formed. The cavity has an injection recess portion and an expansion recess portion. The two portions are separated by a movable mold element which may be positioned to substantially separate or substantially adjoin the injection recess and expansion recess portions. When the movable mold element is in the separation position, synthetic resin may be introduced into the injection recess position without contacting the filtering element. When the movable mold element is in the adjoining position, the resin may expand into the expansion recess until the resin contacts and adheres to the filter element. An automated version of this apparatus is also disclosed.

Abstract: A laminate is made by first forming a substantially closed mold cavity between a pair of mold halves, then injecting a plastified synthetic resin into the cavity under pressure to substantially fill the cavity and at least partially curing the resin in the cavity to form a base body. The mold halves are then separated to leave the partially cured body in one of the mold halves with a face of the body exposed and a deformable sheet is laid over the face of the body in the one mold half. A die having a face conforming at least generally to the shape of the body face is then laid down against the sheet onto the body to press the sheet into intimate contact with the body face and bond the sheet and body together.

Abstract: In order to produce a cassette, such as tape cassette, disc cassette or the like, the following steps are taken. First, fixed and movable dies are prepared which are unitable to define therewithin a shaped cavity. The movable die has at its inner surface a retaining ridge which includes a first portion immediately projected from the inner surface and a second portion immediately projected from the first portion. The second portion has side walls at least one of which has a laterally extending projection at the position remote from the first portion. Second, the fixed and movable dies are coupled to define the shaped cavity therewithin. Third, a plastic material is injected into the shaped cavity in such a manner that the retaining ridge is immersed in the injected plastic material. Fourth, the fixed and movable dies are uncoupled and a cured molded article of the plastic material thus produced is released from the movable die.

Abstract: An apparatus for opening and closing a mold is described herein, wherein a movable mold is revolved and pivotally moved in association with a mold opening and closing operation. When opened, the mold is maintained in a sideways position such that the mold surface faces outwardly. In this manner, the molded article recovery operation is simplified, and monitoring of the mold surface by an industrial television set (ITV) is facilitated. In the mold opening operation, the movable mold begins at a position opposed to a fixed mold. As the mold is opened, a pinion is rotatively driven by a rack which is moved downward in association with the mold opening operation. In this manner, a rotatable block is revolved and pivotally moved along with the movable mold to a position so that the movable mold and the molded article are pointed outwardly. Ejection pins may then be used to eject the molded article off the mold.

Abstract: A rotary turret injection moulding machine has a turntable (12) carrying a plurality of mould sets (17) and arranged to be rotated continuously, a device for injecting moulding material into the moulds and a clamping mechanism for holding the moulds closed during the injection being reciprocated in synchronsym with the rotation of the turntable. Each mould set has one part (18) firmly mounted on the turntable and another part (19) which pivots for opening and closing the mould. A cam (40) follower coupled to the movable part cooperates with a stationary cam (41) extending around the turntable axis to close and open the mould as the turntable is rotated. The movable mould part includes a mould plate mounted for tilting movement on its support arm, and dowel pins (30) and sockets (31) on the mould plates are arranged to ensure correct alignment when they are closed together.

  • Patent number: 4626189
Abstract: The molding machine of the present invention comprises a screw extruder for extruding plastic material. A plurality of molds are moved one at a time to the outlet end of the extruder for receiving the plastic material therefrom. One end of the mold is open for receiving the plastic material and the opposite end of the mold includes a closure plate covering the end of the mold. The closure plate has a small fill sensing aperture therein. A sensing switch is mounted adjacent the fill sensing aperture and is adapted to sense when molded plastic exits from the fill sensing aperture so as to shut off the extruder and cause the mold to move away from the extruder so that an additional mold can be filled. A cylinder operated closure device clamps the opposite ends of the mold after the mold has moved away from the filling station so as to contain the plastic material within the mold while the plastic material cools and hardens.

  • Patent number: 4613475
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reducing the ram pressure normally required to seal the mold of an injection mold apparatus. A movable mold section is rigidly secured to a flat plate-like carriage member mounted for reciprocal movement relative to a stationary mold section. A plate unit is supported between the carriage member and the ram in a floating and axially aligned relation, with the movable mold section located within the perimetric confines of the carriage member and the plate unit. On linear extension of the ram to initially abutingly engage the plate unit and carriage member the movable mold section is moved into engagement with the stationary mold section whereby the ram clamping force is distributed uniformly in a pyramidal pattern from the ram to the perimetric portions of the mold sections to seal the mold.

  • Patent number: 4605368
Abstract: This relates to a blow molding apparatus of the rotary wheel type and particularly relates to supplying fluids, such as air, vacuum and water to a mold half and its associated carrier in a manner which permits the reciprocation of the mold half and associated carrier between a mold open position and a mold closed position. This is facilitated by the use of short lengths of hose which are attached to respective manifolds by swivels. The swivels permit the ends of the hose to change their angular relationship as one end of each hose moves relative to an opposite end of the hose. Adjacent ones of the hoses are located in adjacent parallel planes and are initially bowed in one direction and reverse their direction of bow as movable ends of the hoses move beyond fixed ends of the hoses. The carrier for the movable mold half has associated therewith a cam follower for engaging a cam which effects the opening and closing of the mold.

Abstract: A machine for manufacturing foam building blocks (39) and the like wherein a plurality of two-piece forming molds (21) are continuously moved by a conveyor mechanism along a closed path-of-travel (22) is disclosed. Filling, curing and injection stations (31, 32 and 33) are located along the path-of-travel (22). As a mold (21) enters the filling station (31), the nozzle (37) of a foam gun (35) enters a hole (34) in the top of the mold (21) and moves with the mold (21) as that mold continues to move along the path-of-travel (22). At the end of the filling station (31), after the foam gun (35) has injected a suitable amount of resin, curing and foaming agent materials into the mold (21), the nozzle (37) rises from the hole (34). Thereafter, a cap-latch (36) is moved into a hole closed position. In addition to closing the hole (34), the cap-latch (36) forms one of two latches that latch the two mold pieces (21a and 21b) together. The other latch (38) is located on the opposite side of the forming molds (21).
