  • Publication number: 20130200559
Abstract: A suction apparatus 1 holds a wafer W by performing vacuum-suctioning on the wafer W. The suction apparatus 1 comprises a suction substrate 2. The suction substrate 2, which is rigid, comprises a plurality of pin-like protrusions 2a formed so that the tip-end faces (upper surfaces) thereof are the same height. An elastic coating layer is coated by way of an undercoat layer 4 on the tip-end faces of the protrusions 2a. When the wafer W is suctioned, even if a foreign matter is interposed between the wafer W and the suction surface, because the foreign matter embeds itself into the coating layer 3, the planarization of the wafer W is improved. In addition, because the coating layer 3 can be made comparatively thinner, undulations in the wafer W can be reduced and, to that end, the planarization of the wafer W in the suctioned state can be improved.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for enhancing the consistency of performance of assays, such as multiplexed assays, by printing features in a particular pattern, such that the outer edge of the pattern has a shape that is substantially similar to the shape of the test well. For example, the pattern is a circular or oval pattern along the bottom of multiplexed wells. The assay substrates prepared according to the methods described result in more accurate, precise, and sensitive chemical and/or biological analyses.

  • Publication number: 20130143002
Abstract: A system and method for optical calibration discs includes dispensing a resist layer on a portion of a substrate. A surface of the substrate and a topographically patterned surface of predetermined objects of a template are contacted together, wherein the contacting causes the resist layer between the portion of the substrate and the template to conform to the topographically patterned surface, and the resist layer includes nano-scale voids. The nano-scale voids are reduced by longer spread time, thinner resist, and removal of the residual resist layer together with the voids by using a descum step. The resist layer is hardened into a negative image of the topographically patterned surface, wherein the negative image includes surfaces that are operable to be individually measured by an optical reader. The substrate and the template are separated, wherein the resist layer adheres to the surface of the substrate.

  • Patent number: 8455051
Abstract: Apparatuses and processes for maskless deposition of electronic and biological materials. The process is capable of direct deposition of features with linewidths varying from the micron range up to a fraction of a millimeter, and may be used to deposit features on substrates with damage thresholds near 100° C. Deposition and subsequent processing may be carried out under ambient conditions, eliminating the need for a vacuum atmosphere. The process may also be performed in an inert gas environment. Deposition of and subsequent laser post processing produces linewidths as low as 1 micron, with sub-micron edge definition. The apparatus nozzle has a large working distance—the orifice to substrate distance may be several millimeters—and direct write onto non-planar surfaces is possible.

Abstract: A protective chuck is magnetically levitated on a substrate with a gas layer between the bottom surface of the protective chuck and the substrate surface. The gas layer protects a surface region of the substrate against a fluid layer covering the remaining of the substrate surface without contacting the substrate, reducing or eliminating potential damage to the substrate surface. The magnetically levitated protective chuck can enable combinatorial processing of a substrate, providing multiple isolated processing regions on a single substrate with different material and processing conditions.

Abstract: The present invention may be embodied as a texturing system for applying a desired texture pattern on a surface comprising texture material comprising a pH adjusting material and at least one pH change material and a dispensing system comprising a container assembly and a propellant material. The propellant material pressurizes the texture material within the container assembly. The dispensing system allows texture material to flow out of the container assembly and onto the surface such that a visible physical structure of the texture material corresponds to a desired texture pattern. When the texture material is applied to the surface, the texture material defines a first pH level associated with a first appearance. When dry, the texture material defines a second pH level such that the pH change material defines a second appearance. The second appearance is perceptively different from the first appearance. The desired texture pattern is unchanged.
